I’ve experimented with dethatching some areas vs. just a hard hand rake. The hand rake won out this time. Sometimes you can remove too much turf.

I agree! the hand rake is best on smaller lawns and for newer growth. The dethatcher is quite harsh at times, and it took a lot of turf on mine, but this was must because its been decades since this lawn was dethatched. I wanted to open it up for newer seed and fertilizer. Thank you so much fo the input my friend!

I concur. I do everything manually, hand rake, aerate etc. Not only do I find it is more effective, it gets the heart rate going and is a great workout and core strengthening for a healthier body

I like Sun Joe. Yeah, it's kinda budget but it fits mine, and most importantly does the job. Had my eye on this. Brought a SJ Pole Saw combo earlier this year, a manual push lawn mower, and they both rock.

The thatch? Like cut up that crabgrass that just invades your lawn? Those rope like weeds that have rabbit ear type of blades of grass pop up every once in awhile that completely take over your lawn,?? I hired a lawn service once specifically with the instructions to get rid of the crabgrass what we called in the midwest creeping charlie. They would come and spray something on there all the rest of the grass would die but the crabgrass would thrive and get even worse. They told me that that was just part of normal Saint Augustine grass that there was nothing they could do about it. I fired them on the spot and canceled the contract, because I was clear from day one that the crabgrass had to go! I didn't care if I was left with nothing but dirt as long as that crabgrass was gone

Tip #1 - dump all those clippings across the street and let the city street sweeper do what your taxes pay for

Dude… not a good idea before the summer heat in the US. Bad bad idea for spring.

I think it’s ok for now here in the PNW 🌲

@@FixThisHouse gotcha… yeah i think you’ll be fine. But for most of the US and especially mid Atlantic / northeast. This kills the lawn. So it’s usually recommended for the Fall around September.

@@seonggkim oh yes, definitely avoid hot summer months. I agree on what you said about fall time. Thank you for your input brother!
