Here’s a tip: Use your local library! They have soooo many free resources like movies, TV shows, and more. Our local library also has game nights, a makers space (which I have personally used), and a Things library where you can borrow things and try them out before you buy your own, like an air fryer or seasonal baking pans.

Grocery hack for a family of 5: only purchase clearance, sale and manager specials that are close to expiration items to get best deals. Then plan meals around that. When meat gets close to expiration dates they slash prices close to 50% so I stock up and freeze a lot. Same goes for any staples in my household. We aren't dedicated to a particular brand or item and don't make lists including super specific things, only search for the discounts and plan based off that

Honestly affordably feeding ANY family requires a deep freezer lol Premade food went up in price first like chicken pot pies used to be $1 not on sale 😭 so all the foods I relied on for quick and easy have to be premade by mauh

I’ve been freezing meat for years. Make dinner and use leftovers eat for lunch at the office the next day. Make your own coffee, meal plan, involve the kids (if they’re older) so they don’t turn their nose up at food . Tell the kids to get lunch at school (it’s free in my state). Buy frozen veggies and fruit if you tend to throw out produce, always carry snacks in you purse so there’s no impulse to stop for snacks and fast food on weekends while being a chauffeur to activities. Fill water bottles in the morning for kids. Ugh it’s exhausting feeding these kids lol 😂 store brand is just as good as name brand

I got 2 tips: Learn how to make your favorite fast food pleasure yourself. The DD wake-up wraps were my guilty pleasure until I realized it's literally just a fried egg, turkey sausage patty, whack of cheese on a warmed up tortilla. Put your monthly bills/payments in your mobile calendar. I use the Google calendar and have my paychecks and monthly bills/payments due set for re-occuring for each day every month. Really helps to visualize when the money comes out of the account and track spending when you can easily see/know when a bill is coming due.

Here's something easier: Make an excel file. Create a "subtable" with some borders and some columns. Set for Income and for expenses. List them, sum them, create rows for the bills, the groceries etc. Then have another column for "savings" and rows about banks, cash, investments. Do that for each month. Enjoy life.

If you want to win with money you have to do it up front. Pay yourself first. Whatever baby step you are on, do that first thing when you get paid. Then pay your bills, then what’s left is yours to spend. Of course this means you have to have a plan- you have to write out a budget to know how much you can afford to put aside for baby steps, but do it FIRST. Make it a priority!!!

I still have half a tray of baklava leftovers and my kids don't go back until the 6th. So great video! But I'm going to start my goals on the 6th 🤣🤣 We are currently saving 20% of income between Roth 401ks, roth IRAs, 529s and a HSA, so we have that covered, but now we have to save for a down payment on upgrade in house. Apparently in todays market where we are at, even an inspection will lose you a house, so contingent sales are an immediate loss. We stopped throwing more at the mortgage to save for a new house because I do not ever want to pay PMI again.

So far, I'm doing good approaching retirement with about 800k in savings, but transitioning from building wealth to spending can be scary, especially with soaring inflation. My question is, after maxing out my tax-advantaged retirement accounts, what next?
@jcurdrayeric24326 күн бұрын
Increasing tax rates are the reason I rolled over my 401k to a Roth. I don’t want to be 59 paying taxes on current income on withdrawals made from my retirement account.
@rogerwheelers432226 күн бұрын
Pre-tax contributions may help reduce income taxes in your pre-retirement years while after-tax contributions may help reduce your income tax burden during retirement. Both have their perks but you can also save for retirement outside of a retirement plan, such as in an individual investment account or employing the services of a retirement planner/investment advisor.
@joshbarney11426 күн бұрын
I completely agree; I am in my mid 40s, approaching retirement, and have approximately over 2million dollars in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor can only be neglected, not rejected. Just do your due diligence to identify a fiduciary one.

Is a money market account okay for high yield savings account?
@motoryzen26 күн бұрын
They're really just about the same overall. The only difference depending on the individual account versus individual account or Bank brand versus Bank brand is the amount of interest you get most often across the course of a good year or more I still see and hear George advertise Laurel Road as his recommended high yield savings account for people to use but I try them out and it was nothing but a hassle trying to get things set up let alone the fact that they're extremely slow and updating when I do a deposit into that account and a balance versus BankPlus was super easy and still to this day when I do a balance transfer the money is either there or not there instantly depending on if I'm transferring to or from my checking account to my money market account with Bank Plus and the only difference is barely not even half a percent of Interest. I'll deal with BankPlus any day of the week over a Laurel Road

I assume the 3 to six months savings is in case you lose your job? I am retired with secure monthly pension income to pay my expenses and save. No debt. So I choose to maintain my RSP retirement fund and not use that yet. I am in Canada. I also maintain at least a $5000 balance in my high yield savings account for emergencies and am working on getting that up to $10k by the fall. Question is I guess the 3 to 6 months does not apply to a retired person with good pension income? And healthcare in Canada is free although we do pay for it through our taxes.
@darcybuchanan715726 күн бұрын
I think it still applies. I don’t know who your pension is through, but what if the company suddenly went bankrupt and your pension went with it? You wouldn’t be the first person to lose a pension. Unexpected car issue cost $$$, have to replace your water heater? Medical issue while traveling outside of Canada, etc etc etc. The idea of the emergency fund is that you would be able to cover whatever emergency comes up without going into debt. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a loss of income.
