I'm sold. If she has online courses, sign me up. Explaining different methods and techniques of stick control is clear and understandable to practice directly on the snare drum. Most men just want to show off.

If this wonderful lady had been around when I started playing drums , I would have had a magical tutor , and saved years of doing the wrong things to improve my drumming skills . ❤

Yes, practice is the answer as long as they have the correct technique to use learned.

Great lesson, thank you so much. Please do more YT posts, as I don't do Instagram/TikTok! It's so true, even a simple drum solo/break can sound great with the use of accents/dynamics. Something that seems to be ignored by many drummers I think...

Dude I'm not even a drummer. I'm a guitarist/bassist. But you are so cool. I just discovered you today by accident, it's so sweet and wholesome that you're doing this. You're an absolute legend dude. Definitely subscribing. Maybe I'll break out my old drum pad and try some of these techniques.

I really enjoy your videos Dorothea. I watched your single ratamacue video recently and am practicing it in a groove at the moment. When I get the timing and the ghost notes correct it sounds fabulous and really catches your ear. Thank you so much!!

Great lesson on a grid! What I like to teach my students in to concentrate on the ghost notes because the accent is "already there, it's just not stressed yet." So, if they can keep their hands moving with an even sound from hand to hand, for the duration of whatever they are playing, they can add the accents in. I came up with that approach because I had noticed that many students were treating accents and ghost notes as if they were completely separate ideas rather than part of the ebb and flow of the same music. Then I teach them the grid, so they can place an accent anywhere in the beat. Then flams, then diddles, then cheeses instead of accents, because that's the natural progression of difficulty. 👍🏾

@@derrickburwell7777 What do you mean by "cheeses"?
@derrickburwell7777
@derrickburwell7777 Жыл бұрын
@@rayboreham2648 A "Cheese" is a hybrid rudiment. In one measure of 6/8, it is: A flam with a diddled down stroke, followed by two single strokes. So, from check pattern to Cheese: Eg. 1: 6/8, one measure, R l r L r l (Uppercase letter indicates the accent) Eg. 2: Same Time sig., (add the Flam), lR l r rL r l Eg. 3: Same Ts., (Add the double stroke), lR(r) l r rL(l) r l Of course, you can add cheese to any rhythm, just so long as it's a flam and a diddled stroke. I hope that I didn't confuse you! Happy Drumming! 👍🏾

If you have an Apple phone I love ‘Click Metronome’. Otherwise there are so many to choose from. As long as they have 1/4’s, 1/8’s, 16ths and triplets you will be good.

I am left handed but I have carpel tunnel issues in my right hand. It falls asleep when I do this exercise. To combat that I turn my hand upside down to wake it up again. So my palm is kind of facing up part of the time. Is this okay as long as I can manage to keep a beat? I know it's sounds strange but otherwise I can't feel my hands for a bit. No, I don't want to quit playing either.

I use German grip, is that bad then?
@dtdrummerlady
@dtdrummerlady Жыл бұрын
No it’s not bad. If you are already using it and using it correctly and can play with any speed, then go ahead and use it. If you want to try more American grip, give it a try.
