And if you are really tight like me, a great way to unblock the vaporizer is put a 3" section of bicycle brake cable in a drill from the exhaust side of the sensor works a treats long as the glow plug tests ok.

Great test and explanation as always, thank you for all your efforts. I tried a clean on my own car using intake cleaner then ultra sonic injector cleaner just as an experiment. Been ok for a good while now and have done a couple more since. Only really an option if budget is super tight.

Excellent video as always, I’ve got a Mondeo in at the moment for exactly this problem, I thought the fuel pump must be PWM controlled but couldn’t find a diagram to confirm. Also worth noting the fuel pump won’t activate with the scanner (snap on solus) if the fault codes haven’t been cleared sending me on a wild goose chase, I don’t know if Forscan is the same? Keep up the good work Steve

Hey, thanks for the great video! If ever you have time to answer a question, I would greatly appreciate it… P26A0, I’ve done lots of diagnosing and the glow plug seems to work except when it attempts a regen (then the 20a fuse blows and the vaporizer/dpf overheat). My investigation led me to believe that the fuel pump isn’t providing fuel to the vaporizer which causes the overheating. There are no other codes and the van drives great (no loss of power, no black smoke, etc…) What do you think?
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics 11 ай бұрын
To blow the 20a fuse I'd being checking the current draw of the glow plug and/or checking that the harness fir its supy is not shorting go ground. Usually without the glow plug working the temperatures aren't reached and flag a code for conditions not met.

Excellent and very informative video. I changed mine 2 years ago and everything was fine but now it only reaches 520 Celsius on active regeneration and stops with P244c, temperature too low. Cannot reach over 600. Did you encounter something like this ?

Excellent video! I have a question, I would really appreciate it if you could help me! I took out my vaporizer candle, disassembled it and washed it (would it damage it?)... but I took the opportunity to test the candle by connecting the battery's positive and negative for a few seconds... I noticed that it takes a while to heat up and even leaving it for a few seconds. After 10 seconds it heats up, but does not become incandescent. Would this be a defect? One last question, is it possible to change just the spark plug without having to change the body around it? Thank you very much! Victor Lima Palmas - Brazil
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics 11 ай бұрын
It sounds to me that the glow plug is poor. I've never removed one to test its heat up time, but a conventional glow plug would glow fairly quickly. To my knowledge the vaporizer glow plug isn't available on its own. I'd suggest a new vaporizer and check the fuses

Great video, would a bad vaporizer cause a 2014 ford kuga 2.0 tdci to give out black smoke under acceleration even after a new dpf has been fitted a year ago?
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics Жыл бұрын
I doubt it. The vaporizer is only fitted to aid raising the temperature of the dpf in order to regenerate. I'd be looking at possible boost leaks / restricted air before moving on

Hi, really enjoyed this video. It's a pleasure to watch a really competent mechanic. The way you explain things is so easy to follow, and how you check components with everyday tools like an amp clamp that any good home mechanic should have access to. Quick question, I have a Mk4 Mondeo with 100k miles. Been an excellent car, now thinking of changing, is the Mk5 just as good, or should I look for another Ford model?
@SYDiagnostics

Great video! Quick question though. What is the proper spray pattern from the vaporizer? Does it actually create a vapor of diesel fuel much like a typical fuel injector? I have one that will not do a manual regen. I removed the vaporizer and actuated with the scan tool. The fuel just dribbles from the hole. There are no visible obstructions. Seems like it should be more of a spray pattern.
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics Жыл бұрын
it sprays onto the glow plug within the vaporizer rather than into the exhaust. It appears to be a dribble when activated. Is your glow plug in the vaporizer ok and its supply?

Great video. Loads learnt thank you! Can I ask a question? How does the van monitor oil quality? Is it a ECU calculation from regen data? Or can it actually “see” the oil condition?
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics 4 жыл бұрын
On the delphi system, a strategy has been implemented within the PCM to detect oil deterioration. Frequent short journeys require all available measures to increase exhaust gas temps to initiate a regeneration, which include post injection, also regeneration intervals are shorter too. A strategy is used to calculate oil quality based upon the measures taken to increase the temperatures and when the threshold is reached the warning is shown. So, yes its a calculation and not a physical measurement as such. In other systems and manufacturers it may well differ.
@chrispoole4413
@chrispoole4413 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply SY. The reason I asked is My vans (euro 5 and euro 6) both do relatively short journeys, I like to change the oil more frequently and assumed I would still get the “oil change required” message from time to time. Because as you say it doesn’t know I have changed the oil.

Hi I have after treatment glow plug circuit high and p2002 dpf bank 1 threshold efficiency low. Would this be vapouriser fault ? Thanks
@SYDiagnostics

the after treatment glow plug would be the vaporiser glow plug, but check the fuses too. P2002 could be a faulty pressure sensor or a faulty dpf (cracked, holed)

Hi Steve. Is it normal for Transits to produce white smoke when they're doing a normal active regen while driving?
@SYDiagnostics
@SYDiagnostics 2 жыл бұрын
Only time I've seen white smoke was when a non genuine dpf was fitted and the heat couldn't be generated sufficient to start thd regen process (prior to vaporizer starting) or when the vaporizer fuses have blown dud to failed glow plug, but this usually generates an insufficient exhaust temp code.
@Russell_Duncan
@Russell_Duncan 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply. DPF is original on this one, vaporiser is clear and I can see it heating with a thermal imager so not sure why this one is smoking? I’ll try to monitor the temps. while it’s doing it.

Nice article, but the temperature reading is a little higher for regeneration. normally 550 deg C and above to begin the process, 450 deg if the system employs the additive fluid employed in the PSA vehicles. This fluid added to the diesel automatically during refueling lowering the temperature which carbon is burnt off.
@SYDiagnostics

regularly seeing 620 - 640 on static and driven regens once in full flow, but its difficult to be anything but approx. when doing these videos, hence i always state approx. values. I realise I have made an error in the video where I should have stated a minimum egt of 350 c is required in order for the vaporized fuel to react in the oxy cat. Thanks for alerting me.
