useful suggestion there! i'd sure take that disk and print to upgrade my models i just noticed one issue with these multicolored filaments: now i have some (bicolor and tricolor) and they gave amazing results in some prints i done, but sometimes i noticed the color "twistes" during the print, causing a noticeable color change between layers, as i changed color from a layer to another... that's sure a bad issue on the final result.... i guess it depends on the way the filament enters the extruder, i insert it (for example) red to the left and blue to the right, and few hours later i see red to the right and blue to the left... the filament turned while extruding... is there any way to prevent this?

welcome to the club, im assuming nobody has an answer for this because ive been asking it for almost 6 months now, and i get completely ignored every time.

@@theputnamto3468 i guess no one knows the answer... after some researches i assumed that the issue happens because tensions in the spool (and the more you are near the center of it, the more tension they grow) so the only way *hoping* to not have color twists is to have the spool as near as possible to the extruder (reducing the space for the filament to twist up) and reducing spool tensions as much as possible, maybe also unspooling and respooling the filament less tight than before... that's sure a little pain that bothers this beautyful filament

@@AoiKenshin-h1m loose spools can lead to much bigger problems. I've had some success printing it very slowly, and the twist seems less prominent on round objects compared to flat

@@AoiKenshin-h1m I am having a hard time believing this is a tension issue. My ender 3 has such a hard grip on the filament I can't twist it by hand let alone thinking there is so much twist tension on the spool that it swaps 180 degrees then swaps back. This has to be an algorithm directional swap in the printing. Looking for a slicer that you can tell to only print in one direction. I wish this topic would not be so brushed off and given up on.

Thank you for sharing, although I have tried dual color filament several times, I have never considered rotational shifting, well done

My print sometimes has to go clockwise then counter clockwise and it runs the even color distribution any suggestions

Thanks for the video. I eyeballed the filament and forced it into the extruder (on my MK3) with on be color facing front and the other side, the back, of course, is the other color. I printed an articulating chameleon and turned out great. I can see using this disk for tri-color filament as the tuning needs to be better than "eyeballing" it. This is a specialized filament and deserves very special files--like super heroes and such. I just don't see it as terribly practical.

Great video! I just started using tricolor filaments and this tool is going to come in handy. Thanks for posting!

How are you getting consistent flawless looking color transitions? Any print that I have attempted will have random streaks of the opposing color almost as if the filament is rotating in my ptfe tube. I’ve tried with the same results on multiple printers. I figured I may need a direct drive to remedy this but it appears you have a very similar setup to my own.

Did you solve the problem? I'm also having the same prob.

@@Direkarenz unfortunately I have not made any progress. I was hoping for a response on here. I may contact matterhacker and see if they have any suggestions. Ill update if I find out anything useful.

@@Direkarenz It was suggested that my g-code or slicer could be the culprit. I ended up ditching my custom profile for a standard hatchbox pla preset profile and just changing the print temp to 225 at the start. It was noticeably worse on my prusa but my cr10 was night and day difference. My last 4 prints had smooth color translations throughout. Unsure why yet but it seems my custom profile could have been the issue at least with my cr10. I’m running prusaslicer by the way. Haven’t tried the slicer theory yet. Hope this helps.

@@JerradMC90 Have you noticed infill having any effects on the streaks? I always have the streaks printing models with infill, but when I print in vase mode, the color transitions are flawless.

Thank you for the great video. Could you print one disk / spool, or do you need to print a disk each time the same color spool is loaded? I'd imagine that filament orientation would be different each time, but maybe not.

Makes sense to print it again after each install. Or you'd have to remember exactly how you placed it the first time 🙂

My tricolour pla mixes all the colours when I print anything that isn't vase mode/thin-walled and circular. I'm almost thinking the dual colour turns out better after seeing this video haha. three colours might be too many for printing anything small, but I printed a moai statue about 2 inches tall and it turned out amazing but anything else a tried turned out kinda brownish in colour and had lots of stripes which ruined the effect.

What about settings I can't seem to be able to print this filament I tried different temp settings and it clogs or to brittle even after having it on the dry box

@1990ALECRAM3 ай бұрын
You will have to print the model sideways. I thinkyou are better off getting tansitioning filament. But because it translsitions you don't have as much control over it.

I bought a 3 pack of dual color silk PLA. Every roll gives me issues. The filament will stop feeding. The gears on the extruder just grinds away at the filament. I thought the spool was tangled or my temp was to low. Its not temp. So must be sticking on the spool right? Its super random and I am at a loss with this stuff.
@98f511 ай бұрын
Try a different brand. I bought some that was kinda pricy off amazon and it prints smoother and faster than any silk i tried before.

Try lowering the tension on your extruder gear, and maybe lower the amount of retractions you do.

Print one of these out for your filament, and glue it to your filament spool for ALL future references.
