Jimmy Williams true, guitar tone for yourself and guitar tone for your band are two different things
@jimjambananaslam35966 жыл бұрын
It helps if you use an interface or something and play the song out of the same speakers as your guitar and then try to mix yourself into the song as much as possible. Or if you can find a backing track with the guitar edited out and then try to make your version sound exactly like the album. If you don't have anyone to play with, you can at least get used to playing with other instruments by doing that.

I found my "perfect tone", that is the one I personally prefer, using a Fender Deluxe Reverb Ri. The fact that the amp does not have a mid control is amazing. It means the raw character of the guitar is a lot more apparent and tone defining. Also, just adjusting Bass and Treble is easy and almost idiot proof! With this amp, if you have a decent guitar and decent technique, it's almost impossible to dial in a bad tone.
@jman21020017 жыл бұрын
I think of it as the treble being bite, mids being heaviness, bass being warmth, and gain being saturation. I just play the same riff over and over again and see what's needed. I mainly play Holy Wars by Megadeth to do this because it has a bit of every technique

I start w/ a clean sound. I dime the master, lower the pre then set everything at noon. Then, I start going down the EQ band on the amp starting w/ the bass. I dial it until I hear where there's a noticeable change in sound and set it where the change occurs. I then do the same with the mids and highs knobs. It's a great place to start before putting pedals in front of the amp.
@alakirte Жыл бұрын
Such a simple thing yet I didn’t think to do it, I was overwhelmed with all the effects my amp had! There were stomp box effects, amp effects, pre gain, post gain, lows, Mids, highs, etc. I didn’t think to just start with everything in the midddle and just test each knob by itself to see what it does. Surprisingly, it helps a lot!

I like to dial in on each tone dial to the area/range where it engages e.g between 9-12 (you'll hear it, it's normally pretty small degree of angle) set those up, then add a transparent drive that comes through depending how force applied to strings, this can then be dialled in and out use the guitar volume (normally set 6-7) Then repeat on lead channel and happy days, natural drive/break up organic tone. If your distortion player then I've no idea.

My favorite tone is with the neck pick up, the bass on 6 mid on 7 and trebble on 4, with a little reverb and even less delay. And clean. Or with very little overdrive

The Gorilla amp will provide "one" tone that apparently nobody likes. You don't even have to dial the tone in, you just turn the amp on and it immediately produces that undesirable tone. I bought mine at the market for $50. I love it! Everyone who has ever played through it absolutely hated it. It is fun to watch them turn the dials ..as if that is going to make any difference.

My perfect tone: Marshall Valvestate 8080 modded combo line out into both channels of a 70's CBS Fender Silverface Bassman 100 into a Gary Nessel (RIP) quad box. Marshall has been tubed, capped and chipped. Clean channel has the crunch selected and the dirty is set to the low gain setting. Modded Dod Overdrive to thicken the sound for single note work. Guitar is an old 70s Japanese LP standard copy with a fake single coil in the neck and a 16.7K beast in the bridge. Wes Montgomery to Malcolm Young in the flick of a pickup switch. The magic is the levels stay constant. One last thing, once you find _your_ perfect tone, it allows you to explore what other tone is available from other gear. The pressure is off.

Lots of kids do that heavily mid scooped thing at home in the bedroom, then they get onstage in their first band situation and notice that that tone sucks, it disappears onstage.. the snare and cymbals hitting all the highs, the bass player covering the bottom, you really need to give the midrange a little meat, as u say.. it needs to cut, but not hurt the ears,either... it's always good starting with stuff flat,like 12 o clock ,great advice.. nice amp,it looks like one of your better combos...I have a Marshall DSL40c combo, it's like a cheap copy of a half stack tone, really cheap sounding..but a TS9 helps it a hell of a lot...I hate it,I might try the new PRS stuff out, it looks cheap and sounds good in the vids..

When you dial in a guitar and amp, what pickup do you do it on (bridge, middle, neck, etc.)? Also, what are the settings on your volume and tone knobs of your guitar itself? Do you have those knobs all on max, or do you use different settings? In most of these dialing in videos, I only see focus on the amp.

Dial it in with the pickup you use most and always have your guitar knobs turned all the way up. You can "color" the amp tone afterwards with the knobs.
