How to disable reverse noise on 2022, 2023, 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

I'm paying $40k plus interest, and immediately I have to finagle things? No. Not on a brand new fucking car. That's a dealbreaker for me. Honda's CRV is nice and quiet when you back up, even though it's a bit under equipped compared to the Tuscon, at least I have peace of mind that I won't have to deal with that crap. Damn it. Just wanted to say thank you very much for uploading this! For those who also want to attempt this mod, the hanger or hook tool has to be VERY stiff - most wire clothes hangers are cheap and have too much flex. I used a heavy duty one from a dry cleaner. It still had some flex but it did the trick. It WILL take several attempts so don’t get discouraged if you’re at it for over an hour.

I have a 2022 Ioniq and it's not the reverse sound or even the spaceship noise that bothers me but the noise it makes when I walk away from my vehicle with the car still on. It's like the old-style Emergency Broadcast System test noise. I deliver food all day and I am in and out of my car 50X a day. Sometimes I leave it in when it is safe to do so. It's 12:30AM here and it's too late to go out and see if my Vess speaker is in the same place or if I have enough room to access it like you did but I just want to thank you for identifying and locating the offending component. I hope your MacGyvering plan works for me too because this thing has me at the end of my sanity. I will report back. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

So I didn't totally disable the VESS in my 2022 Tucson Hybrid, but I did greatly reduce the volume. I used a 5"x5" neoprene pad (3/4" thick). I used black gorilla tape to cover the foam part of the pad, I used multiple layers to not only deaden the sound but also to keep the pad from soaking up water. I fished it through the grill and stuck it on the speaker. I then used more tape to secure it firmly to the speaker housing. This reduced the backup beep at least by half and basically eliminated the "angel song" while in EV mode.

Endless gratitude to you @Ben Wright for posting this tip. That backing alarm was so F'ING OBNOXIOUS and a constant reminder of the nanny state (you know, the one that purports to care about pedestrian safety, yet builds 45-55 mph divided highways without sidewalks through our neighborhoods). I was able to pull off this trick in about 10 minutes and now I don't have to be embarrassed every time I back my car up AND at the same time I feel like I'm sticking it to the man!!

The heavy duty hanger suggestion on here was right on, some muscle is needed to depress the tab that holds it in place; this isn't easy, but stick to it and you'll git-er-done. I put a fingertip's worth of dielectric lube over the contacts once I got it disconnected - to protect the contacts in case the Hybrid Police bust me... GREAT VIDEO, THANK YOU!

I did the same thing on my Hyundai Ioniq EV. I covered the plug with a ziplock bag and put tape around the connector in case any rain eventually causes an electrical problem. I was ok with the sound when driving but the reverse sound was annoying and I felt like it was bothering my neighbours whenever I backed in to the driveway every day. I did it differently though because there is no open grill on my car. I had to squeeze my arm and reach for it from the top.

This works. It's tricky to do and a mirror is a must. Also, the hook needs to be pretty stiff because it takes a little muscle to pull once you get it engaged into the hole. Needed to grind my hook to a sharp tip to fit. Stick to it and you can get it.

I've heard a rumor the EU version has a button to disable. With all the other backup safety features on top of the "angelically" loud humming it makes, there's zero reason for the beeping that has heads turning and glaring at the other end of the block!

Prior to 2021 you had a button on the dash to turn it off but after 2021 legislation across the world said there had to be a warning sound for visually Impaired people to hear the car in electric mode

I used a pair of medium sized channel locks to squeeze the tab and pull the connector off. Channel locks work well since they have an angled head allowing for easier access.

I found an easier way to do this. Using a pick and hook set (think of a screw driver with a hook on the end). You place the hook around the back of the connecter to press release button and use a flat head screw driver to press the front and it pops out. Then put a little dielectric grease on the connector.

Trouble is you can get a citation if it's off. I found a simple way to put a switch on the specific fuse that is associated with both noises. That way I can switch it off or on depending on the situation. I have a Niro EV. Now it's silent when I back out of my garage in the morning but keep it on the rest of the time when I am out driving in public spaces.

Yes it's on the back side, but you don't have to put it in the hole. You press the end of that connection and pull.

The bev kona has a button on the dash to turn it off .this was cost saving. But my issue is this sound is at a pitch that causes something to rattle in my ear canal it very distracting and these companies have not done enough work. On the effect of these sounds. I do understand that countries where worried about older people and children not hearing the car so legislation was rushed in not illegal to remove after purchase. In the uk the driver according to the law should be able to disable the sound from inside the car.

I would be worried about warranty issues. I have read that people just put tape over the front "speaker" area and it really muted the sound. I like the safety of it, especially with kids BUT it does not need to be as loud as it is. My husband bought a 2022 Rav4 Hybrid and his does not do this. I personally am going to try the tape method and see how that goes!

You can just tape over the connector. And it’s super easy to put back in with some needle nose pliers. Good luck!

There is a setting that will disable completely, unlock when you unlock all doors, or unlock when charging is finished. Change yours to one of the first two.

The only downside I can find so far is the dahboard warning when I start the car, which is easily disabled by a quick tap on the steering wheel settings icon. The only remaining reminder is a small icn on the lower right side of the dash panel. I can live with that. Great video by the way!

Dude, just search how to muffle the sound of a speaker. Easiest technique is to use a tape. I used black electric tape and the sound is hardly annoying anymore. DONT void your warranty listening to this guy.

It may not be something you like but it’s a federally mandated safety feature. Especially beneficial to the elderly and hard of hearing. Disabling it could be a problem - certainly would open you up to serious liability penalties in court, if it isn’t an outright violation of the law to begin with. Probably would fail a safety inspection as well. I wonder how many service techs will click it back in place on the first servicing! Lol. Just think of it as a sound to draw attention to the nice new car you have.

@@Vaalbeast This is not a matter of hybrids cars or full thermal. It’s a safety matter for surrounding people. While the 360 degrees camera is helping the driver a lot (I tried the Kia K8 with it, and I’m buying it this year, living in Korea), the sound alerts is not for the driver. Underground mall parking are also full of pedestrians and young / elders people. An accident can happen pretty quickly. You just get out of your car, with your kid. Forgot something and end up with your kid crushed by the car next to you. You will say: Cmon buddy, you dumb parent you should be aware of your kid. That what this kind of safety features are supposed to prevent: alarming people for a potential risk - despite that the pedestrian or the parent is out of mind. So yeah, you’ll be sue pretty easily in the US for removing a safety feature and have your insurance letting you deal with the shit by your own. Even for a small accident with another car while you are driving backward: it will be a valuable reason for your opponent to get you pay all the repairing fees. Since the feature is coming with your car options, and you deliberately removed it. Do not forget that usually, your insurance is following your car criteria as it is.
