My particular Swayback came with a super stiff detent straight out of the gate. I used some KPL and about a weeks worth of flipping even’d it out beautifully. I agree that the smaller Spydie hole is a bit of a learning curve especially if you’re accustomed to the more PM2 sized hole, but I’ve really gotten use to it. I can thumb flick it with the right hand and middle finger flick with the left effortlessly. Really loving this knife way more than I initially thought I would. Absolutely beautiful blade-it shines.

I'm surprised you didn't have a bigger objection to the access to the spyder hole! I know you've got the LBH and all but I seriously can only just barely jam the tip of my right thumb nail in there to flick it open and if I try to pull it open like you were doing with my left hand its not much better because the hole is smaller than the width of my finger nail. I'm so bummed I wanted to love this knife, but I hate it because of that issue.

I bet that clip works better than most others. It’s like the Rockstead Higo (which you slated for its ‘gas station’ looks), that is one of the easiest to use clips I’ve ever had. Plain & simple isn’t necessarily lazy or bad, if it works well. As William Morris might have said, "have nothing on your knife that you don’t know to function or believe to be beautiful"... not necessarily both!

Haha I agree with the clip conundrum. While it doesn’t look fancy for a knife of that price, Spyderco has had a bunch of misses when they tried to make something more fancy. The traditional clip works well and is replaceable if people really don’t like it.
@sinjon4 жыл бұрын
Is having the pins screwed into the blade a normal thing on knives with internal stop pins? It seems the head of the screw would have a negative affect on action. It seems milling the pins out of the blade stock would be better
@pixelb32854 жыл бұрын
The holes are counterbored so the screws don't make contact with the scales. If you wanted to mill the pins out of the blade stock, you'd need a substantially thicker bladestock (which is extremely expensive with the super steels) and then mill it down anywhere except where that pin is (which is expensive, a waste of tools and time). Also the screwed-in pins are replaceable.

It would be a sin for me to "flip" this knife open. It is so smooth, and the slow open is sublime. Btw, the hole pattern on the clip is not standard. It varies slightly from other Spyderco 3 hole factory clips and seems to be unique to the Swayback. After I got the custom clip made, this knife now is just as nice to me as my Bowie. Marcin Slysz is in a league of his own. I wish he would collaborate with Reate at some point in the future. I would love to see them translate one of his customs into a production version. Goals

Something to consider when you are working on the full review; I find that this is an upside down knife. Try assessing the ergos while holding the blade facing up in the right hand, thumb on the ramp at the bottom of the blade. I find it rather comfortable in this grip even with the factory clip.

not sure why they went with the insert. just added complication. All the slysz designs have been rock sold without it. Steel has more of a tendancy to slip unless it is fit together by a skilled person and that generally takes a lot of time and those types of knives are generally starting at 400$. Based on other spyderco frame locks with an insert I dont have a ton of confidence. maybe im wrong. And the clip! dude everyone loves the wire clip.... come on.

They could have done a much better job at that price and I don't think the Swayback even comes close to the Slysz Bowie, which I really like a lot. First it's larger than I thought it would be. I'd have preferred something more gentlemanly, perhaps a little larger than the Techno.
