That reel is missing a metal washer that sits on top of star drag knob prior to .handle. It keeps the star drag from rubbing up against the handle when backed all the way off.

Funny ya mentioned that, I figured that out after I put this back together and ordered it. It's all in tact now great attention of detail 👌

@@whiskerwhisper I was watching your video to make sure mine was put back together cause I forgot more than I know now. I just happen to see it and have to watch your video 3 times then realized it was missing.

Haha I know the illusive small pieces are always tough to catch onto. You have reels-(ambassadors) from the 50s are those mainly 5000c or d I know they made 6000s as well I wasn't sure if it was the 50s or 40s I think the first abu was actually a spinning reel

@@whiskerwhisper I have a 500 D and a 5000 C the C just says ABU but then I have a reel with no name that has engravings on both sides. I recieved them when my father inlaw passed away and he collected anything antique that he could make a dollar off of. I don't use them now, they sit on a shelf. I know the engraved one is a little rare because of the engravings . They mean more to me because of how I got them than any money.

See Fred's classic ABU reels and stop guessing at the age of a reel. A. Lot of 1972 to 1980 foot number 751003 1975 december 3 revisions..... older reels are different but you can see his stuff through Google and get his app. He did and does a ton of research. Thanks!!

why didn't you disassemble/clean/grease the thumbar - that's where 90% of these reels fuck up. thanks

The thumb bar was actually fine on this reel. Wasn't sticking or I would have I will most definitely do this in the next video

You should not be using those products to grease and lube
@whiskerwhisper4 жыл бұрын
Why not, I've done it for years absolutely no problem
@kattchasers34123 жыл бұрын
@@whiskerwhisper LOL because Abu Garcia sells oil and lube for 3x's as much for their reels. I have reels going back to the early 50's that work as new and I use Blaster to clean, some compressed air and then lithium grease and have never had one fail . Keep doing what your doing! Momma always said if it aint broke leave it the ^^^^ alone.

@@kattchasers3412 that's an interesting technique! But if the shoe fits wear it! I usually clean mine once a year or so there are so many different ways to do it. Id like to see ya do it. Tight lines sir thanks for watching!

Grease is grease, fella. Don't mix them, don't overuse, and don't let your drag grease get contaminated with it. It's that simple.
