Hi mate, about to service 3 old 6500c's (I've never taken them apart before) and I'd love to change mine from right handed retrieve to left....any advice/info re how to go about this? Any info greatly appreciated.

Man I can’t wait to upgrade my 5601 c4… I want the worm drive bearings too though. I’ve had it for about 15 years now and it’s getting rough feeling. I think most of it is in the cog gear, it’s got some play in it. So I’m gonna order the upgraded cog gear with bearings too. How much did you give for those bearings?

These can be picked up pretty regularly in used but good condition for $50-75.

@@rookiesportsman8185 I bought several 6500 and 5500 in that price range off eBay..they’re all great reels!!!! Used but fantastic!!! I tore them down and cleaned and lubed them…good to go!!!!

They should be! Usually a 1 digit difference like that denotes left hand vs right hand models depending on the manufacturer. The bearings should be the same.

It's not a "thrust washer" it's a shim, thrust washers are only used on tapered roller bearings.

Did you know the difference between ABEC #7 & ABEC #9 is only 0.001" or 0.01mm in tolerance on average among all bearings 0 - 18mm in outside diameter. That relates to all categories including bore diameter, width variation, radial runout, raceway runout and inner/outer ring width. When discussing fishing reel bearings we have found it difficult to justify the added expense increasing to ABEC #9 rating for such a small increase in tolerance overall.
