This is instructions video i made on HOW TO disassemble the more recent 2014+ makita battery pack. with simple tools you can get cells out of these in about 7 minutes.

Thanks for showing the pack construction. I just resorted to pulling the spot welded tabs right off the cells the last time I did this. You can still solder on the bare bottom of the can but a really hot iron and speed is of the essence and cool the can immediately after on a wet sponge to prevent too much heat damage on the battery. The positive side is much easier to solder since you have the elevated buttonhead.

Thanks for the video. I couldn't figure out the final part myself (drilling through the center most 2 holes). Otherwise this new pack is similar to older ones. I didn't cut the metals with Dremel, I pried them off intact with chisel.

Ha,ha..I’m a mechanical engineer person and I cared for his edited informations and the video creator informations.Because it can saving you some money like about $100-150 dollars.If you’re able to getting a hold of 2 or 3 or more of these discarded portable batteries packs that are using lithium batteries cells by people or in many constructions sites.Taking all of those 18650 good lithium batteries cells out.You can refurbish recycling to be building for to a lot of many power supplies packs for many other devices to uses like batteries power packs for E bikes,portable backup batteries power generators packs and many more uses that require using 18650 lithium batteries cells.

Thanks for this video! Is that #10 Torx bit a regular one, or a security bit? I think my batteries are 2012 models.

you don't have a few torx different sizes, don't open your battery !

What do you use these cells for ?
@Miketrt2 жыл бұрын
What do you use the batteries for? I have some I've thought about doing this to... need some kind of use for them I guess. Thx. BTW - if your Makita 18V's won't charge because of low voltage, there are ways to make this happen if the batteries are good enough and the V's are just too low. You will find how on KZbin. Saved me some dough!

That's why they make security bits to get those screws out

Hi, I have read many of your threads on Zero Motorcycles. And see that you also know A LOT about them. I could use some of your expertise and would appreciate your input with what I'm trying to do. I have a 2011 Zero. I purchased a Chevy Volt 12 cell module 48v to use in the Zero. I would like to use the Zero Charger 48v that came with the bike to charge the Chevy Volt battery pack. Is there a way to wire the charger to work as a straight up charger with out signals from the original Zero BMS? Any input would be appreciated.

search on the electricmotorcycleforum, many have upgraded the 2011 battery with various type of cells!

What are these cell? Are those sony vtc5 or vtc 6??
@CookieManCookies3 жыл бұрын
Most likely Sony VTC5 batteries.
@h8GW2 жыл бұрын
It isn't too difficult to use a small but strong flathead screwdriver to just pop the spot welds off the battery, but then again, using the attached nickel strip to solder onto is a pretty good idea! -Then again again, the main reason I'd disassemble a pack is to rebuild it with new cells, so that method is rather useless for my soldering.-

A very nice & interesting video (I added a 'Like') but that conclusion from this video is not to deal with that repair. Replacement Batteries are expansive.

Wouldn't it be easier/safer for people to just screw a screw into the plastic then pull it out? That way there's less chance of any accidents

Protip: NEVER hold something like that when youre holding something that will cut you. Similar to never cut towards yourself. If that bit skips/ slips and you have your body weight on it and it lands on your finger say hello to stitches.
