Hint for reassembly: when mounting the lens section with AF/MF switch in it, the switch with metal fork can be popped out. Then after lens section is reinstalled (7 screws) the switch can be popped back in in AF position. Beware that of the 7 screws, some are different length! Best to start from the AF motor, go clockwise and store them in this order. Then on reassembly you'll know exactly which screw goes where.

Thank you for providing this. It was extremely helpful. My zoom was locked due to a loose screw on the encoder contact bracket. When reassembling, I noticed a few points that may be helpful. There is a tiny blue switch on the focus motor assembly. It needs to interface with the external AF/M switch. The external AF/M switch has an additional "finger" that lifts one of the gears. When lifted, the gear disconnects the drive train from the motor. You'll want to pay careful attention to the position of both elements or the external AF/M switch won't work. There is also a slender, slotted, sheet metal "finger" extending from the ring that goes over the motor and has 7 screws. There's a small brass looking pin that will need to be in the slot. One of the brown kapton flexible circuits tends to get bunched up under the 7 screw ring. Push this clear from beneath with a probe. I found the 7 screw ring was much easier to get on with the lens at 50mm. This dropped the inner element down below so that it did not interfere with the ID of the ring.

Many thanks for your video, this helped me reparing the zoom ring of my own lens (it was locked). I had to disassembly all the rings but not the optical part and found that the zoom value coder was partly unscrewed and was blocking the zoom ring). It took me 3 hours the first time and 1 hour the second time (I missed a step on AF remount first time). Now my lens works fine again.

On my lens the zoom position coder metal arm holding the brushes was a bit loose, which was causing slight wobble in zoom ring. Good that I fixed it before it got worse. I secured the screw with 2 drops of lacquer.

Thanks this video helped guide me to remove some pesky dust that was between some of the elements. Unfortunately there is some dust trapped between elements that do not appear serviceable, but at least I got rid of the large particles that were causing the most issue.

Thank you for this. Way too complicated for this model. I was thinking of opening it up and adding a black paper with an oval aperture hole right after the lens aperture, to emulate the anamorphic look. I don't think I'll do that now... or ever...

the zoom ring on mine stopped working, you have to pull the front barrel while also turning the zoom ring to get it to go in and out now. everything else works fine. Would you say its loose screws inside? taking this apart looks kinda brutal....

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a used tamron 24 70mm lens at a very good price (half of what other used ones are worth). The problem is that it was cleaned of fungi and from that moment the automatic focus works but it does not focus.
