He’s a bit wrong. It’s highlife that originated in Ghana and Fela was originally a highlife artist in the 50s. After a while he included jazz in his music and originally called it highlife-jazz. Afterward, his Ghanaian manager suggested they give it a name of its own. And that’s how Afrobeat was born. Afrobeat itself is a blend of mainly highlife and jazz and it’s the highlife portion that originated in Ghana.

This guy dey liiiie!! How can Ghana own Afrobeat, when Afrobeat is a combination of different genres by Fela i.e American Funk, Yoruba JuJu and Ghanian highlife. Highlife is not the only genre blended to make Afrobeat. The truth is Fela made something entirely new by blending these genres together, which means Afrobeat belong to Fela. Stop stealing people's work just because they borrow one or two things from you to make their own. Highlife itself didn't just happen, it was created by borrowing / blending Calypso with traditional Ghanian music. But last time I checked, no Calypso musician has ever came to claim Highlife. Onyiara!!!!
