In this video I will show the equipment needed for do it yourself prom chip tuning. For GM throttle body TPI, LT1 & early Honda engines, but the same will apply to all car with removable proms.

I'll have to learn how to tune OBD1 ECMs but your guide is certainly putting me on the right track. I've always wanted to add a supercharger to a 1993 Pontiac Trans Sport minivan with the 3.8L to give it a little better overall handling but I thought I'd have to re-wire the whole van to OBD2 out of a newer Grand Prix. Thank you!

Hi great video. I seen this was how its for Chevy but I have a 95 dodge Dakota 318 w/ automatic trany I'm planning on porting and polishing the heads and a cam maybe throwing some bigger injectors on it. How would I tune it??? I grasp that it will probly be sorta the same system but will the wire be the same because I haven't seen a wire like that on it. Looks almost like obd2 wire. Just wondering maybe I can get pointed in the right direction. Thank you very much and God bless you

i have a question for you ..i got a 1990 k5 blazer tbi and i did some up grade on my engine and put a bigger cam in it so i had some one burn my chip and now the idle is up to high when i frist start it up its fine but once i put it in gear the idle goes up to about 1000 rpm and wont go back down what i want to no is it something on the chip where you can adjust that idle ..or should i do it

I do need a chip and some advice on a 1995 2wd 350 tbi build. Missouri DOSENT require emissions for that year. The engine is the famous 70's casting number 010 block thats punched .40 over. It has flat top pistons and a .041 fel pro head gasket, iron 64 cc protopline heads that have 185cc intake runners, 2.02 intake valves, and 1.60 exhaust valves. The cam is 213 219 duartion at .50 447 in 471 in lift or part number LUN-20080660, I have the summit air cleaner with an aftermarket tbi unit. 1.6 roller rocker arms, Edelbrock air gap intake, long tube obx headers, I do have 2 1/2 inch pipes all the way back to dual exhaust but I need to get a Y pipe and a catylitic converter. I am going to get a vortec style lph fuel pump and 18 psi spring. I have a 2500 rpm converter on the 4l60e which has low miles(128,000). Stock 2 piece driveshaft been rebuilt. Has a 373 gears in the rear end and the tire size is 31x10.50 r15 LT. Is there any other recommended parts I should get?Thanks again.

loved the video. I now think i need the apu1 and g2 adapter and a pair of flashable chips or two. bone stock ecm in 94' gmc sierra gt 350 auto with tbi spacer and 3" exhaust and headers with x pipe (overkill I know!) planning vortec heads and cam and such but need to get started on tuning or none of it will matter. thanks a bunch and if I'm wrong on my tuning parts please advise. also I'm running windows 7 32bit on a toughbook. what was the reasoning behind running xp?

I had problems with the chip burner with windows 7. worked fine with xp.

Great source of info. I just converted my G20 Chevy from a 305cu to a 350cu and having difficulty getting it to run smooth. Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks!

Did you swap to the 350 fuel injectors and prom chip? Also, the knock sensor is different. Everything else is the same(I believe), but any one of those things will create a lean condition and ignition timing problems.

Awesome video man. I found your video because I’m having a running rich problem with my ‘91 GMC with a 5.7. It’s driving me fricken crazy because I’ve replaced every damn component on this thing and have gone through the TBI several times. I can not lean this thing out !! I built this engine back mostly stock. The only mods I have done were block hugger headers and I did port and polish the heads. The engine runs awesome on the highway, but around town I’m only getting 10 mpg. It has a rough hot idle and intermittent shutter almost to where it wants to stall but doesn’t. What is your recommendation? I’ve replaced EVERYTHING. (TPS,knock sensor, temp sensor, map , egr. , 02, etc. etc. even soldered new plugs on everything) please advise. This 4.50 a gallon gas is killing my wallet.

What was your fix? My 454 c3500 is the same only I think im leaning out causing overheating in summer time only. Im about to change the ecu ecm thingy

@@Arizona_rider I’m actually still working on it. It’s a daily driver though. What all have you done to yours ? I doubt it’s the ECM. There’d be several crazy things going on it that was bad.

@@squidhound00001 okay 7 years ago I bought this truck. Did emissions and found the thermostat missing. It still passed. That’s where my problem began. I started to replace everything cooling and sensors. It would not cool down in summer heat. Only at red lights. It never boiled over. My coolant over flow lid area has warped and the container has swollen. Thought it was the heads. Nope. I had the money and told a really good shop to rip everything out and replace it or do whatever. Found another engine and they rebuilt it. Everything under the hood is brand new. First day it hit 100, the thing starts running 230. Now it’s 109 degrees here, i have a new fuel pump and 4 core radiator coming. The rebuilder is looking for a head gasket leak but can’t find one. So it’s back to the same thing. He said maybe the ecm needs reflashed for fuel trims

@@squidhound00001 red lights is the only time it starts creeping up. You can stick a piece of paper in front of the radiator and it will suck it up against the grill when clutch fan is on

I would check your fuel pressure and make sure your injectors are not leaking. Use a timing light to check your injector spray pattern.

I realize this is an old ( very old video ) however, i am looking for a way to tune my 1992 5.7/350 TBI with mild mods. I have a 1997 LT1 hyd roller cam from a Z28, 1.5 roller rockers, hi-flow cat, IROC underdrive pulley set, 18 LB TBI regulator spring and a 60 LB EFI pump from a Silverado 5.3...This Franken-Rod needs to be quick off the line, reliable but still pass smog test - in Virginia. Any ideas ?

1991 4.3 chevy TBI losing one injector sometimes, could it be a chip .Installed new injector, new ecm with old chips, check all wiring. I am lost for now

Doubt it but you can likely find used chips and computers for you vehicle on eBay

I would try just turning up the fuel pressure, and see how it runs.

what's the need for this? can i just replace the injectors cheaper? will this make power difference or fuel savings or ? or could i send my chip to you. my truck seems to have a spot in the throttle that when i pull a boat at 55 mph it has a tiny chug i have to let off or push more gas. if i dont it just keeps slowing down to 50 mph or near. what going on here do you have any idea? it my first truck that has this particular injector set i like older carburation.

It's not that simple 🤣🤣🤣🤣 on these with more power like say you're going to a 350 from a 305 or you took your 350 out and it isn't stock anymore this let's you adjust fuel flow air flow timing curve etc etc yes you can put bigger injectors in but your computer is going to be letting it put the same amount of fuel pressure as your smaller injectors so it's not going to do anything for you

Is there any way I could send a prom to you? I have a 1988 S-10 4.3 that is running really rich because I live at 7,500ft in elevation. Everyone else has told me it is a lost cause and I can't adjust the fuel to air ratio.

Check your map sensor that should compensate for altitude or lower your fuel pressure, that will lean it out. You will need a adjustable regulator.

and by the time you go out and buy all of this crap and spend hours tuning it I can get a edelbrock rpm performance intake with 750 carter afb performer carb adjust the timing to 21 degreees go grab about 5 bottles of 108 octane boost and blow your doors off at half the cost !

@@ILLUDIUM_Q_36 yes you can most important I have upgraded plenty of tbi sbc . You can either delete wires out of your harness the cheap way or order a painless wiring kit for your vehicles application nest get your edelbrock performer intake get your carb and most importantly get a different fuel pump I usually go with a Holly fuel pump on those simply putting a fuel regulator will cause your stock fuel pump to burn up because most efi need 50psi give or take and most tbi needs 35psi and carb only needs give or take 7psi . After your new fuel pump and a bit of wiring clean up through that intake and carb on you are going from a stock tbi at 190 -210 HP to 265 HP give or take when switching to carb the I found that by advancing timing with octane boost I can achieve 300hp on a stock block I forgot my torque numbers but let's say it's way better has much more pull and by doing this swap your simplifying your motor making it much cheaper to maintain and afford and notto mention under your hood will look much nicer .

I usually go with a 2,000 stall to 2500 stall going any further I would seriously consider things like stronger set of u joints and other parts I buy my converters from transtar they sell nationwide and so far so good and just doing a stall converter really does help win the race you'll definitely notice a big difference !

@@ILLUDIUM_Q_36 also they sell shift kits depending on what transmission you have in your vehicle but those are over rated all they do is drill out a few spots on valve body and turn band a little tighter .i can cheat and right where kick down cable meets carburetor I just make small adjustments until it shifts a little late and harder saves $ and you get same results as shift kit would do for you .
