NOTE - Newer Brevile machine do not have the hole in the back-flush gasket. Both ways are as spec, but new models use a different cycle. I don’t understand how it gets clean with the hole in the gasket. It seems like it would need to back-flush the solution through the machine in order to clean it. With a hole in the gasket I don’t see how that’s possible.

The hole is not big enough so a lot of water stays there that is the Cleaning solution and then it backflushes. But I think they changed how it works because exactly what you're saying.

Breville sent a response, regarding the confusion relative to the new cleaning method: Thank you for posting your review and feedback regarding the Infuser Espresso machine and your experience in seeking information from Breville Support. Speaking directly to the point, and apologies for any confusion on our end, there was a very recent change to the latest production batches of the Infuser Espresso machine wherein we removed the previously designed ‘hole’ in the center of the cleaning disc. Our higher end models have always lacked this hole, because the backflush cleaning process which uses the cleaning disc is really an effort to fully flush the solution through the group-head and source of water flow, not to drain it through the filter basket. As technology improvements occurred to our entire line of espresso machines, bringing models like the BES840 Infuser up to par with more advanced products we carry, this change reflected an upgrade to the robustness of the valves associated and therefore the ability to fully force that solution back through the channels through which the water came, cleaning throughout and resulting in improved longevity and performance. While we work to update our video content and product information to reflect this change, we apologize for any inconvenience caused in any confusion regarding the matter. We also are actively working to revamp our support site and continue to improve the consumer experience so that it matches the high quality of our Breville products. I’d be happy to reflect our appreciation for you as a loyal Breville consumer by sending a few bags of our freshest coffee beans and some cleaning supplies to hold you over, if you don’t mind as we already have your contact and shipping details I will proactively submit that accommodation order, as a courtesy. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions or concerns, and thanks again for your feedback and loyalty.

UPDATE ON BREVILLE INFUSER, NO WATER FLOW FROM PORTAFILTER DURING CLEANING CYCLE: I literally just got off the phone with an espresso expert from Breville. She informed me that the Breville Infuser (and several other models including the Barista) SHOULD now have a SOLID cleaning disc, WITHOUT a hole in it. She said that now, the cleaning process is VERY different than it previously was. The new method is to have the cleaning tablet and solution, dissolve and backflow through the machine, and distribute the cleaning solution into the DRIP TRAY and NOT come out of the portafilter, at all. So, there is no problem with either the machine, or the cleaning disc, they are operating as they are now supposed to. I asked why Breville hadn't made any change to their instruction manuals, online tutorials, or even their website, or any other communication, to inform their customers of the rather significant change. She said that the new procedure has only been around for the last few months, that they are aware of it, and are getting around to making the necessary changes. I asked why they don't take about 5 minutes and get their I-T staff on it, thereby, at least making a change to the instructions on their website, as well as putting this new information into their FAQ area of their website. She got rather defensive, stating how it was a comprehensive change that takes time, and again, they are aware of, and getting around to it. I reminded her, that it's the manufacturer's responsibility to inform and educate their customers, and not the other way around, and that Breville really dropped the ball by not making basic informational changes (via their website instructions, FAQ sections) at the very least. I informed her that there were many people experiencing this same issue, being told by their instruction manual, website and tutorials one thing, when it now should actually be done differently, at least as to where the significant amount of water is to flow during the cleaning process. I also told her, that as a result of this, there was a lot of misinformation being suggested online, as how to correct the "problem", that actually doesn't exist. Also, there have been reports online regarding various and similar issues that people have been having with their products, for years. I reminded her that the only problem, was on Breville's end, by making significant changes to their instructions without informing their customers from the beginning, BEORE they ship such products, so, in that regard, they really dropped the ball. She went on to saying how the internet was a "rabbit hole" where there's lots of misinformation, to which I agreed. But with all the information that's on it, both good and bad, Breville hadn't effectively done anything, either proactive, or even reactive, to correct the misinformation, that they themselves, were responsible for causing. Further, I also informed her, that when I called their customer service number for assistance, virtually all of their other products have assistance 24/7, but specifically state that assistance for their espresso machines, are only available M - F, during regular office hours. Now when I called the number anyway, on a Saturday, mid-afternoon, after being on the line for 42 minutes waiting, I was disconnected. I called back in, got through to customer service, and the lady there was actually very willing to assist me. She admitted that she didn't know all that much about espresso machines, had not ever heard anything about the issues that I brought up, but would do her best to help me. She took down the information/concerns, and passed it along to the espresso team, which got back to me today, Monday morning, which I do appreciate. When I got the call today, I informed their representative that it's very bad form, bad for business actually, to not only NOT have the proper and RELEVANT information available, at least online, but also, of all their various products that they produce and sell, why would they not also provide 24/7 customer service, for their customers that are on average, spending a LOT more than the average customer, as espresso machines are one of their higher end products. She had no decent answer for that, other than to again say that they are working on making the informational changes, to update the procedure/expectations, for how the cleaning process should now work. Again, the lady that helped me initially at customer service, Tonya, was great, the lady that called me back today (I forgot to ask her name), has a lot to say, did call me back in a timely manner, but as far as effectively responding to customer concerns, just doesn't get it. Hopefully that changes soon, take care.

JUL 17-2024… One major difference is that the tablet does not dissolve and flush into the metal cup. Breville changed something since this machine was made and the flush occurs inside the machine and down into the drip tray. Before you start this step, make absolutely sure your drip tray is empty.

When we try to clean ours, no water comes out of the group head. I don't understand how water would come out when it is blocked by the cleaning disc (the rubber gasket)? I had the same issue and then I found this answer:"I had the same problem with my barista express which I bought recently at the start of 2019. I live here in the UK and the cleaning disk provided did not include a hole in the middle and no water came out from the group head although, in the manual, it states to place a cup under the group for the water to come through which was quite confusing. I then called Sage Appliances today and they said their machines are updated and anything sold after 2015 are manufactured so the backflushing goes down straight to the drip tray and not a lot of water is taken from the water tank. So basically everything is good. "

@@kevins6106 Too funny, when I called customer service this past weekend, Tonya was really nice, had never heard of water not flowing through the portafilter during the cleaning cycle but would pass the information on to their espresso team, and that they'd get back to me this morning. The lady that called back was rather defensive. As you said, she indicated that with the new cleaning cycle method, there SHOULD be a SOLID cleaning disc, WITHOUT a hole in it, and as you said, the machine is to backflow the dissolved solution through the machine, and it purge into the drip tray, so now, there should be NO water flowing from the portafilter during the cleaning cycle, by design. You indicated that Sage told you that the change was made way back in 2015. I believe you. The lady that called me back today from Breville, stated that the change was only made a few months ago, and that they are working on updating their manuals, yeah right. When I mentioned that it would take like 5 minutes to at least update their website's instructions and FAQ section, she acted like I somehow didn't get it, when in reality, she's the once that really doesn't. They have great products, but their customer service leaves something to be desired.

@@jennifermartin3987 I bought a Breville Infuser last month. Today, the clean/descale light came on, and it was flashing, indicating that a cleaning cycle should be run on the machine (descaling would be needed if the light were on constantly). Well, I followed the directions EXACTLY as described in the manual, on the Breville website, and tutorials on KZbin. According to the directions, a large container is supposed to be placed beneath the portafilter with single cup insert, cleaning disc and tab, because a LOT of water is SUPPOSED to run through the portafilter, at least according to ALL of their literature on the machine. I called their Customer Service line, and they weren't sure what the problem was. They thought that the cleaning disc, should have a hole in it, for water to flow through. Mine most certainly does NOT. The ones that you can order from Breville's website cleaning kit, most certainly do. So, the customer service rep said that the espresso experts, only work M-F, during regular office hours. I completely described the possible problem, and they indicated that they'd get back to me on Monday, to let me know if there is a problem, or, if a change was made to the discs/machines, and that the manuals, website, etc., may have not been updated. Again, the rep said she didn't know, but would find out, and get back to me this coming Monday. I posted my experience on Reddit, because others have obviously had this problem, and reported it online, but noone has posted how to fix the problem (if there is a problem). Either the disc should have a hole in it, to let water through, or, they (Breville) changed the cleaning method and forgot to update their manuals and website. Either way, they dropped the ball, on either providing the wrong cleaning disc, or, they didn't update the manual and website, if there is a new procedure to be followed. Yes, it's confusing, but Breville needs to clear up the confusion, that they have obviously caused. When I posted on the Reddit website, one poster said that the procedure had changed, and that the cleaning disc should be solid, without a whole, and backflush the lines, into the drop tray, with no water coming out of the portafilter, during the cleaning process. But again, the instructional manual and website, do NOT say that. So, right now, it's about as clear as mud. I'll know more on Monday, and report my finding, at least on Reddit.
@johnlantz3771
@johnlantz3771 5 жыл бұрын
@@jennifermartin3987 It can't if the cleaning disc is solid, with no hole in it. Previous models came with a cleaning disc, that DOES have a small hole, in the middle of it. The cleaning kit on the Breville website, has such a disc, with a hole in it. My Breville Infuser came with a solid cleaning disc, with no hole in it, and water does NOT go through the portafilter, when I ran the cleaning cycle. All the water during the cycle, went into the drip tray. Some say that's how it's supposed to function, but when I called Breville's customer service number, that didn't sound right to them. I was told that they'd check with their espresson machine experts on Monday, and get back to me, and let me know if it's operating fine (and that the instruction manual handn't been updated), OR, if my unit should have had a cleaning disc, with a hole in it, for water to flow through, again, they did NOT know at this time, but will let me know on Monday. It's frustrating that they don't know if there's a problem or not, and either provided the wrong cleaning disc, or they forgot to update their manuals and website. Also, it's rather ridiculous that they don't have representatives working after hours and on weekends, that know what an espresso machine should, or should not be doing. Bottom line, they dropped the ball, product wise, communication wise, and possibly both. They really need to do better.
