Since my pancreas has failed 100% now, insulin has been keeping me going. My blood jacks in a day from 60 - up to 576 and down over time. My biggest fear with such extremes is the wide range between meters. Example: When Libre 3 CGM sensor indicates 257, my Metrix reads 212, and from the same blood drop the Contour Next ONE reads 164. All meters verifies working correctly. Due to this I find myself setting alarms more sensitive and the math for the insulin less than accurate. The CGMs are a great thing, but the data from all devices seem hit and miss no matter the diet, the exercise, of course Ketones from my damages liver may play a big part in this issue. I just don't know. It is difficult to get those specific answers. Great video, I subscribed because one can never learn enough about this disease, AND you are very easy to listen to. 👍Thank You. WAIT! I just notice the shirt you are wearing. Panthers? In Orange? Is this one of those 'small world' experiences? P.R. Panthers?

Excellent. Concise. Lucid. At 71, my blood sugar has finally snuck over 100, so I going to start testing for the first time in my life, just to keep on eye on things. As an old person who is not too technically competent, this was very helpful, rather than slogging through the 60 page manual that came with the monitor. Coupled with another good 6 minute video showing me how to set up the monitor and lancing device, and use them, I am good to go. Thanks.

Good idea to check accuracy. Are you Type 1 or 2? What are your thoughts on the accuracy of expired strips? I have some that expired 07/31/23
@PaulbylPaulbyl3 жыл бұрын
Good video. For what it's worth I use two meters, two test strips (from two different containers), and prick my finger enough to feed both test strips. If there is a fairly large difference in the two readings then I know something is wrong with the meters or test strips.

Thanks, Maddie for your kind efforts, and would you please tell me what is the purpose of this Solution Test? And what if I am not doing this test? By the way, I just bought that device “Contour Next One” because I have blood sugar “Type 2” three years ago, and my age is 54, Thanks again and God bless
@MaddieNielsen3 жыл бұрын
the control solution test is to determine if your meter is reading accurately with a control solution sample. If it is reading accurately with a control test, that means that your blood sugar meter is accurately pin pointing your current blood sugar when you do a finger stick

IF THE TEST IS OFF CAN MY cONTOUR ONE NEXT BE RE-CALIBRATED? OR BUY A NEW METER.

The control solution test is something I rarely do. And even when I do it with expired solution.

What if it's over the range listed?
@Cervin_Suisse10 ай бұрын
My guess is that the manufacturer will say the device needs replacement, if the strips are not the culprit. There should be some way to enter a correction parameter thru firmware but probably more profitable for the seller to entice you to buy a new one. Just guessing.

I am using the Bayer counter ez. My reading is reading on the very very edge or sometimes a point higher for the solution. Does that mean my tests will read higher?
@MaddieNielsen4 жыл бұрын
Possibly. If you are unsure, I would test with another meter to ensure your blood sugar readings are accurate
@zmanphx4 жыл бұрын
@@MaddieNielsen been two weeks. I bought new strips. The readings are the same as the 6 month expired strips. Since I started keto diet my reading are 15 points lower. I am in the normal range for post and premeal. I wasnt following my diet for 4 months and ate pasta and pizza. So my pre meal reading was around 105 when I started checking again my blood sugar two weeks ago.

Maddie - I was recently diagnosed with prediabetes and am going to start tracking my sugar levels so I can learn how to control them a little better. I bought this meter and two control solutions (level 1 and level 2) -- should I be testing the meter with both of these or just one? I am pretty confused. So much information! : (
@MaddieNielsen3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea! You can use either level of control solution. The only difference between the level 1 and 2 is the concentration of glucose within the solution! Hope this helps! :)

So is there a way to adjust the calibration of the glucose meter to bring it back into normal range? I just tested my Contour Next and its right at the upper range of 140. Now im wondering if ALL my readings have been 10-15 higher than they should be. Time to break out the instruction manual.... Edit: According to the instruction manual (page 35) if the control test is outside of range you either need new glucose strips, new control solution, or a new meter🙄. So I guess tomorrow ill go buy some new strips and control solution just to be on the safe side.
@MaddieNielsen4 жыл бұрын
If you are ever unsure, definitely get new test strips as sometimes the strips can go bad, leading to inaccurate blood sugar readings.
@__-pl3jg4 жыл бұрын
@@MaddieNielsen - Thanks for the tip. I ended up just buying another Next One glucose meter because it was difficult finding more control solution locally on short notice. After comparing test results between my old meter and the new one with new test strips, everything was the same. So I guess the control solution was bad or I didnt apply it properly. A new meter was only $20 and now i'll always have 2 different meters to compare results so it worked out well in the end.
