Head to Sugarmds.com to join our newsletter! Discover exclusive secrets on reversing diabetes and unique care methods you won't find anywhere else. Dr. Ahmet Ergin explains: Why blood sugar is high in the morning? In the morning, people experience a slight rise in blood glucose levels, i.e. a higher blood sugar. A person without diabetes will most likely not experience any effects, as their body can adjust but for a person with diabetes, this rise can be significant, and it may need further attention. The truth is that there are a few causes of high blood sugar in the morning. This video will showcase these causes, including what they can mean for your health.

Had type 1 for 61 years. I remember telling the doctors that the blood sugars rise in the early morning and being told I'm crazy. Years later they changed their mind and realized that was the case. We learned a lot by listening to each other.

These videos are so helpful to really understanding diabetes. I am prediabetic and was on metformin , not everyone experiences this but I ended up with severe b12 deficiency and began to lose feeling in my toes, accelerating to peripheral neuropathy. So painful, but at the same time it woke me up to how painful diabetes could be. Thankfully getting the b12 back to correct levels and exercising has made a world of difference in that regard, it also woke me up re diabetes and I am now actively doing all I can to,keep my blood sugars down. I literally was wondering this morning why my blood sugar reading was higher in the mornings ! Thank you again for another informative video.

For me, colds and sinus infections mess with my sugar numbers… driving them up. Sugars are messed up due to hormones being out of wack from colds. I have been diabetic for about 4 years ( am 44). My father and sister are also diabetics. I usually have about 250 fasting no matter what I try. I also had 4 surgery's in 2019 in the span of 6 months time. My sugar was out of control. I ended up at 550 one night. After all the surgery's were done and body relaxed a bit from the stress and pain, by sugar has been better. My doctor said that stress and pain will sometimes cause you're sugar to spike. I take 2000mg a day of metformin. I started at 500mg. We are trying to get it back down to at least 1000mg. Good luck to all on this journey 😊

I'm diabetic for about 8 years. I'm 35. In my case, what I have noticed is that my blood sugar rise almost more than 2 times in the morning (8- 12 p.m) with the same type and amount of food eaten than at other time of the day. And it breaks off during 12 - 12:30 noon time. Nobody seems to have an answer. I think it's because of increase insulin resistance during that time of the day. My medication is insulin mixtard and recently I have started to take metformin too. Because of the above mentioned prob, it's a scare to eat in the morning. I feel so tired and need to increase the insulin med much to bring the sugar down, during that time of the day. I have also noticed that my condition is better if do eat only little the previous night. Can u please help to analyse my problem. Thankyou.

This is my second or third time watching your videos on high blood glucose in the morning. I am a prediabetic. What is an optimal blood glucose range before going to bed? Sometimes my readings are 114 before bed and I wake up and it’s 101. Is 114 too low? Please clarify. Thank you Dr. Ergin.

Good job! You don’t always have to take meds to control your diabetes especially in the first 5-10 years of diabetes. All you need is willpower, a good doctor.

I'm prediabetic & my A1C's been around 5.8-5.9. But those high, morning fasting readings. Have gotten to be, off the chain! And I even drank a lemon & water, & acv cocktail. the night before last. And I was at a '157' the next morning!?! I'm 71. But I did not expect to ever see, that high of a reading!? Do I need medication?

I am diagnosed prediabetic, have had the experience where in testing my blood sugar, although within the good range it was still high in the morning, so was restricting my foods, but one night ate some chocolate and my blood sugar in the morning tested perfect wondered if anyone experienced this. One thing that was determined is that I need to eat, something I was not doing regularly.
