Brian great vid I just did a 80 yard mulch job I told the owner I don't think you need that much. I charge 175.00 a yard that is installed and weeding. If I don't have to weed its 145.00 a yard installed. If I have to redefine the beds that is extra. I was right he had about 10 yards left and no were to put it. When it was delivered they dumped in the street ( not allowed ) So my 2 clients next door wanted 5 yards each, and I charged the same amount. I had one yard left and an older woman in her 80's her front bed was looking shabby so I took what was left and filled in her bed at no charge.

@@sandydunlap9871 The price the mulch is minimal in my pinion. Its the labor they pay for. Mulch is not easy work, especially in the heat. I charge $125-145 per yard in 2021. I compare it to concrete work...and we all know what that costs.

@@captaintravissahpdoxj4124 where does the 150 come from?
@btsllc9676 Жыл бұрын
@@Dj_CaTz1 Not sure if you really want the math but here goes. A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet (3ft x 3ft x 3ft) . That would cover 27 square feet at one foot depth. Since the mulch install will be 2 inches, that is 1/6th of a foot. So it would take 6 square feet of area 2 inches thick to use 1 square foot of mulch. Mathematically, that would be 27x6= 162. The 150 is more than likely using 25x6 since 150 is easier to divide by instead of 162.

In my area mulch goes for about 35-40 per yd Eastern NC near the coast As you stated every areas of the country is different. I do the simple method as well. Section off all the areas LxW/ 150 to get total sq ft snd convert to cubic yards. We add delivery and labor/ installation all in one and generally we get 120/130 per yard with a minimum 200.00 charge on any mulch job. We have already been applying a lot of mulch this season so the pricing structure seems to be working for us and our customers This price also leaves me room to discount if needed on anything over 5 yards Especially if they are an existing lawn care customer. Appreciate the videos and interaction! Awesome stuff

Throw in granular PreM to get your margins greater. Once you mention weed control , the client will pay. Also we have a formulation that is this : Square footage X. 2 ( inches in depth ) then divide by 346 ( I believe that’s the number if I recall ) Been pretty much spot on with that especially for larger work.

Central Florida; I charge $100 for the first yard of mulch and $85/yard after that. Price is completely installed (labor and materials). For heavy material such as river rock I charge $200 per yard labor cost plus cost of materials. (which river rock is just under $200 here so it'd be $400/yard of river rock installed) I measure everything out and do a factor of 100sqft per yard on small jobs under 4 yards and bigger jobs on a factor of 125sqft per yard. This way I don't short myself on small jobs and have slightly more give on larger jobs due to a higher profit. ALSO; If the customer is more than 15 miles of where I pick my materials up I add $4 per mile to cover the round trip of milage so my guys and myself are paid for our drive time as well. (Example: my customer is 20 miles away from where I get the mulch and she needs 5 yards of mulch her cost would be $460 Total.... $440 in mulch and $20 additional for milage)

Mulch is very fluffy so I divide my footage by 200 to get the yardage. We charge $90 per yard installed. That includes a pre emergent weed control. If the beds are very weedy and have to refined.. We charge $ 50 per man hour to get the beds looking sweet. In NY all material are sales tax at 8.625%... sometime we eat the tax, other times we collect the tax. Also we use16’ F650’s, 14’ F550 and 12’ F 450’s all with dump bodies. We shovel the mulch off the truck into 6.5 cu. ft. Wheelbarrows and move the truck around if we can. my name is chuck with My Lawn Guy. i was in IL. and i just sold my business and moved to texas. when i was doing mulch, here is a fool proof way to get just about exact yardage for mulch. i always measured the beds with a walking wheel i always carried in my truck with me. you measure length X width divide by 162. so, for example, if its 10 X 10 its 100 sqft divide by 162 for 2 inches depth is 0.61 yd which is a little over half a yard. a yard of mulch is about 84 cubic feet, give or take. i was a little bit low but i charged 95/yard installed plus delivery. i also included bed edging with the echo bed edger. unless it was far then i charged a delivery fee. but i swear it is a fool proof way to measure for almost exact mulch. you just measure round the beds and around anything in the beds. if its a tree ring, you measure across it. so if its a 5 foot ring, you measure 5 X 5 and divide by 162 . and i always used a double wheel wheel barrow. it makes the job way easier. just not solid filled tires. its way harder to go across the grass. i always replaced the inner tubes with ones made by slime. they are self sealing so a rose bush thorns wont puncture them, like i had done to me. im trying to start my business all over again in TX and been talking with keith kalfas as well. you both are amazing and i love you. i was even thinking about starting my own you tube channel because you you guys. i'd love to talk with you more personally. but i have no idea on how to each you that way. i hope to be able to talk with you soon. :)

This is the first video I’ve watched on bidding mulch jobs. Very informative and helpful. Causes me to think maybe I’m not charging enough. I charge $25/hr to spread mulch. Plus the cost of the mulch (which around here is $35/yard) and a little extra for gas to pick up the mulch in my truck. You said you charge $75/yard to install. You buy the mulch for $30/yard. So you are charging $45 on every yard of mulch you spread. A guy can spread roughly 2 yards an hour. So you are charging $90/hr for labor plus $60 of mulch in that hour. So that comes down to $150/hr to buy deliver and install mulch. Am I doing your math correct to compute it to an hourly rate? I’m just asking because I’ve had such a tough time figuring out if I’m charging enough for my work.

Here in SC it's 30-35 per scoop depending on suppliers. I also now cheat some on my math I use the landscaping calculator app which allows me to do most materials Gravel, soil, mulch pavers, retain walls, concrete, sod, area, volume etc. However, this video helps too and I may try to incorporate some or change up see what happens on price see if I go from a 20 or 30% margin to 50 or so. I only hobby it since I work the FD but we shall see.

I.e. I would do 10x10x2 then charge 60yard plus 70 labor per hour plus a pick/delivery fee so say 200 and go from there most of my Mulching is small areas usually those 10-30ftx5ft flower beds around the houses

I get my mulch at wholesale for 21/yd and if the client was to buy it they have to pay 35-40 depending on shred. I charge them what they would pay for it so they think they are getting it at cost. no delivery fee. then labor depends on the extent of how much trimming, edging, and weeding is needed along with the amount of mulch that is needed to be spread. basically 50/man hr, I figure from experience how long I figure it'll take, then I quote the job at that estimate plus a $100-150 variation incase we run over. almost always on the money or we finish well under and I come out with larger profits.

Great vid. I've started to separate my pricing based on difficulty level of the job. If it's a very open bed, I can usually manage to spread 2 yards in an hour. But most of the time when there are a lot of shrubs to work around, I find I can usually get about 1 yard per hour while still making it smooth and nice.

$75 Cubic yard delivered and installed. Within a reasonable distance from the house. 1 cubic yard equal to 100 square ft. 3" thick unless its a freshening of an established bed. Add on for crazy grade, long haul, long distance from trailer, pre emergent, etc.

If you apply less than 3” of mulch in the open areas of a bed, weed seeds can still germinate so that part of the benefits of mulching is pointless. (Other benefits include disease control and aesthetics) Though, around the trunks of woody plants, you should lower the level to almost nothing to allow a healthy environment for shrubs. I’ve had my landscape gardening business for 25 years and learned a lot along the way and had to go back in and fix beds that were mulched with only 2” of mulch. I hope you will take this into consideration. 😊

We charge 100/ yard for standard mulch+ delivery fee. Or $130 for the premium mulch. Mulch here can run anywhere between $47-$89 per yard depending on the quality.

Just to comment and not judge. Here in Philadelphia suburbs I can get mulch for $21 a yard dyed if I pick it up and they always give 1 yard free. That's wholesalest. All the 3rd party nurseries charge around $40 a yard delivered. My spread price matches around yours - $700 for 8 yards just about but I know I am lower then some landscapers around here.

When I was starting I did not understand my loaded labor rate. When I figured it out it was $27 an hour. That is my true costs to have one guy working for one hour. This was ten years ago costs have gone up. Get with an account and learn true costs. You can be busy and go out of business. If possible order mulch by tractor trailer. I was paying $10 yard.

Liked the video I recently started my lawn company and this was helpful. I had a question though why divide the length and width by 150? I no math genius by any means.
@1supersayian4 жыл бұрын
He divided it by 150 because if you spread the mulch by about 2 inches thick it'll be one cubic yard every 150 square feet.
@randyt35585 жыл бұрын
Premium mulch in my region costs $55 to $60 a yard. Easy access, i charge the same for install...so. $120 a yard. If there are obstacles or long walks, i adjust the price. And i always spread by hand. Always 3 inches.

When I mulch. I haul out material atleast every other mulch. So it don't pile too high. An that charge factors in .
