This is a very common mistake that a lot owners make when it comes to man hours. I highly recommend basing the man hours solely off of the owners hours rate and NOT the employees hourly rate. I've been in a situation where the employees didn't show up for several days which led me the owner to do more of the work than respected. As a result, I lost money because I bid the job based on the employee hourly rate and not my own.

Been watching your videos for a few years now. Very informative and helpful with confidence when bidding jobs and speaking to customers. It took me a long time to realize that what may seem to me like a lot of money because I didn’t have it isn’t necessarily an issue for the customer. Leading me to underbidding jobs by 50% or more usually. I know my worth now and what I bring to every job. There’s an old quote, “You wear your work ethic like a badge, good or bad it’s gonna show.” Thanks Keith!

The first two I got I didn’t charge much, only because they have other larger properties and we made agreement if we do a good job with the first two we can rebid for a bigger package after a few months. Sometimes sacrificing for future buisness and not charging like your a 10 year established company goes a long way. Also mentioning “fairness” to my clients see to help as well, when they know I want the fairest price and not the best they feel appreciate.

I found out in my city it is 25-45% cheaper to buy bag mulch depending on the sale than it is to buy in bulk. Easier to move, easier to install, and easier to return what you don’t use.

Ive been watching your videos for several years and they have been soo helpful i often wrestle with the same issues you talk about in your videos my biggest one is the pricing. I judy did a quote for 110 tons of landscape rock and by the time i factored in the logistics and the labor and the materials and even when i seen that number i was like omg to myself as well. I was reluctant to even turn the bid in because the price was astronomical but it turned it in anyway the answer is always no if you dont even try or ask imo. But at the end of the day I tell myself my time to me is worth alot and if it doesnt make dollars it doesn't make sense. So im hoping for the best. Ive never done a landscape rock job to this caliber before and im nervous as all get out but if i get to job it will be worth it financially and for the experience also build my confidence in bigger jobs in the near future . Thank you for keeping it real in your videos im sure they help thousands of people like myself in the day to day grind. Keep up the good work . And thanks again for the amazing videos.

Great video! We have similarities in our thinking. I'm over 19 years into a small garden maintenance job with a team of three in South West England. I have my 1st ride on mower quote to do ( my choice - did not want to get into huge areas at the start) So I'm looking for any tips or advice on how to quote with a rider on. Have done 1000s of small to large propelled mower machine jobs and wondered if I should just quote that way as in quote whatever it would take with the biggest mowers, but just use the ride on instead?

@@keith-kalfas thank you so much man appreciate your vids, i firmly believe it's all about knowledge transfer to give the highest quality to clients and learn how to basically not do things "half assed" for a lack of better terms and i think customers appreciate that professionalism and high quality results from learning tips and tricks others many not know in the field and i think that consistancy of high quality results as the result of the knowledge learned through your kind of videos is a major key to success of a company and keeping clients over a long period of time, because not only have you shown them they can trust you to deliver a high quality service whenever they need, now they trust you with other projects they may have and ask for you or referrals to their family members and so on and so forth and if you raise the price a bit they wont necessarily always mind either because they know that you know what you're doing. And that's how great relationships are built with clientel, never stop making these videos man you're awesome, i also watch Brian's Lawn Maintainance and B&B Lawncare you've 3 have taught me so much im forever greatful for in this green community, best of luck and Happy Easter to you and your family, thank you for the response👍

That’s a good price customer is definitely getting a good deal. No one should judge a price given by a landscaper since it’s the price they can do it for, maybe there is a company that can do it for less, but what I’ve found those guys have to get out of the business because they have health problems or couldn’t afford to stay in business. Some of these customers make 30k listing a house for sale and work a day listing it on the internet. And another couple hours showing a couple the house. So 30k for around 2 days work in the air conditioning. So don’t be scared to raise your price they didn’t when they did their work.

What city is this? I would assume that the cost of living here is extremely low. These prices don't give much in regards to profits. After paying for the labor, workman's comp, Medicare, social security, insurance, and material. How are you making any money to pay for yourself, your 401k, your insurance (medical that is), advertising, equipment maintenance, etc.. As the owner of the company you should be able to a clear at least $100,000 a year Plus put money aside to cover for marketing and equipment maintenance.
