Liked seeing a demo on a house that has a lot of surprises. Makes it much more practical than watching a video where everything is as expected. Easy to learn a lot more about things to look out for when taking on something like this.

It would be great to video a "nightmare" house from start to finish. We are renovating a rental property right now and actually it is a barn conversion that is in better shape than some modern houses we have purchased in the past. Well the 2x4 joists are scary...but I'm sure the inspector will catch that next week. Then again, back in the day it was a barn and not designed to hold granite counters and a stone fireplace...

Could you show how to set up the air vacuum seal? New to this dust free concept. I have never seen it done and how it works. Did you test drywall joint compound for asbestos? My house was built in 1970 and has 2% Chrysotile in joint compound. From asking around, seems like the vast majority of people wouldn’t even question it/test for it and would assume nothing like that was there.

That wire just being in the Cold Air Return is more Dangerous than the staples you were talking about. Effectively if there were an animal or something down the road that caused the wire to get hot, and if it got hot enough to start a fire, the return would feed that fire Air. I know it is against my Local Electrical code.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I always wonder when I watch demo's on tv why they make such a mess for themselves. I took off my hood vent this fall and what a mess, the wires were wrapped with duct tape, the ground wasn't connected. You would chuckle if you saw the plumbing in my kitchen. I bought this house from a contractor believe it or not, lots of hidden treasures.

As for TV, people forget it is "entertainment". While I would love to watch a guy with a tool belt all day, it is not very exciting to the other 90% of viewers....I remember in my parents house, when father renovated he found the wall sconces taped with scotch tape (not even electrical or even duct tape!) And the light fitting almost fell on my head one day from the ceiling, missed my by inches, talk about a brown trouser moment! While I am an enthusiastic amateur and semi skilled DIY'er, I do like to read up as much as I can before I attempt anything. My father worked for a construction company for many years and was very handy, that helped growing up...

I laugh every time I see a home improvement show (Property Brothers, etc.) featuring the home owner helping with the 'demo'. They're swinging a 12lb. sledge at cabinet doors, counter tops, walls, and ceramic tile creating a huge, dirty pile of rubble. I know it's done to add 'drama' to the shows, but it's idiotic and misleading. All it does is create a false impression and doubles the work. As you said, uninstall, not smash. It's faster, cleaner and safer.

I told the flooring company owner that I was interested in interior renovation and he told me to apply for the warehouse to get my foot in the door, and then I can start going out and working on actual flooring jobs with the guys once I get to know them. @HomeRenoVisionDIY6 жыл бұрын
we do wear safety glasses at some points during the demo. I want to emphasis this point. constantly being in heavy boots destroys your knees. That is a guaranteed injury only an expensive and painful operation can repair. I have stepped on 2 nails in my life and none of them caused me a day off work. Always wearing safety glasses destroys your eyesight for life. I will only wear them when I feel it is appropriate.

Home RenoVision DIY I hear what you are saying but if a cupboard door was to fall off, land on a guys foot and breaks his toe, is that going to be you're reply to the lawyer that he'll be using to make a claim against you. I'm just trying to look out for you. You are responsible for those men.

You mean those grey sweat pants aren't safety gear? How serious are these guys to even show up like that?

Looking at this video and seeing a couple simple basic wiring items in my house, I'm surprised my house hasn't burned down. And I won't even speak to the plumbing. Ho hum..........

I feel your pain cjay . I bought an old house that has been renovated by incompetent people for years. I find myself redoing every major structural and mechanical aspect of this home before finishing again. But I love It!

Hey Jeff, we are having a new countertop installed and we want to save money by removing the old laminate countertop ourselves. We are going to paint the cabinets as well. Any tips on removal without damaging the cabinets?

All laminates are screwed from the underside. simply back off the screws and you should have great success.
