Oh I love that “having the door closed/open” analogy...has made the jump make a bit more sense to me....my trouble at the moment is that as soon as I pick in behind, I transfer my weight into that leg, making it difficult to draw in with my right....any suggestions?
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 4 жыл бұрын
If you are transferring all your weight onto the picking leg as soon as you pick, it means that you’ve started to transfer your bodyweight too early, you’re coming up in your non-picking knee too quickly or you’re not in the right position to pick in the first place! Spend some time in the set position (the position right before you pick) while travelling backwards and learn to balance in this position. Then learn to pick while coming to a complete stand still. Then after balancing there for a few seconds, start to draw the feet together. Basically, just breaking down each individual step into separate parts, it should help!

When the right foot slides to the left foot, does the right foot need to be on an outside edge?

I definitely wasn't using this technique. I was able to do a single with the 'door partly open'. I wonder if anyone using your technique has ever crossed the feet too far and gotten them tangled.

hi, this morning my coach said that in fact likewise with the LOOP jump the weight should be on the RIGHT leg and that the jump takes off from the right leg ; that only a few % of the weight is on the left leg that pick the ice. So far i used to put the weight on the picking leg and sort of jump like in a waltz jump after the the right leg passed front the right. Could explain a bit more please ?
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 4 жыл бұрын
When you actually place your toe pick in the ice, I agree with your coach in that most of your weight is on the right leg, but as the rest of the jump entrance happens, this is when I believe that your weight transfer happens to the left foot. Your left foot is the last thing to leave the ice, therefore all of your weight should be on that foot by the time you are taking off. But it is a combination of weight on both feet that continuously changes throughout the jump entrance that helps you both vault up into the air and initiate rotation. It sounds as though in your case, you are transferring the weight a little too early onto the left foot. Make sure you achieve the full "draw back" as explained in the video before transferring your weight.

@@IceCoachOnline thanks a milions :) this is what i've juste realised : i was watching and slowing down your jump in your video while you were writing your answer :D : so if i understood properly : you keep most of the weight on the RIGHT leg to be able to draw it past the picking LEFT leg and then you transfert the weight (to the LEFT leg) in order to be able to lift the right leg off the ice. Am I correct ?

Can plz, should i use a tooth of the base (right) leg in the end of outside edge? I do 2t and feel how my right leg pushs the tooth for jumping
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 4 жыл бұрын
I would try to avoid using the tooth (I think this is the toe pick?) on the take off. This will slow your jump speed down. You should be on the outside edge until take off and finally putting all your weight on the left toe pick to launch into the air. If you use your toe pick on the right foot, you will find it hard to completely 'open the door' and take off facing forwards and keep good momentum to initiate rotation.

I have huge problem with keep my knee straight while I pick toe in the ice. What can i do to fix that?
@IceCoachOnline
@IceCoachOnline 4 жыл бұрын
Well, right after the toe picks in the ice, your knee should naturally bend anyway. Just try to do a bunch of 'walkthroughs' focusing on the technique during the tap. Think of the knee a bit like a pole on the athletics pole vault, it hits the ground straight, bends during the transition and straightens as you take off to give you maximum height.

LegacyOnIce - Assuming you are doing correct technique, make sure you have both feet underneath you at take off. The best Toe Loops take off from both feet into the air. This is one way to help get more height into the jump. Other ways are speed going in, timing, correct placement of the toe pick, knee bend and making sure you rotate your upper body to face the take off so that you do not block the jump. This should also create a skid of the front blade as you draw it back. Hope some of this helps. Have fun 😀
