Beautiful! I grew up with a Wire Fox Terrier, so it was wonderful to see the gorgeous Winston.

Winston is quite handsome. I so enjoy watching you. Actually I was thinking of you today. I groomed my 2 rescue boys and thoroughly enjoyed it. I set up in the utility room. We just moved in 5mos ago so I've been winging it.

Awww you are so sweet! I feel like my grooming room is always a work in process and adding a move would just make that worse. I'm glad to hear you are settling in, though. I bet your boys feel so much better and they are loving all the after groom cuddles they are getting 💖

I don't understand how he is so fuzzy. I have a pet WFT named Wynston as well and his fur always separates. I am very new to stripping and grooming and finally got a table and tower to how him whilst grooming. This video is so helpful!

Is this particular dog that comes in ever ran in the woods or allowed to go swimming in lakes and running through fields and weeds? I ask because my two wire fox terrier‘s are my constant outdoors companions and I have not given them any kind of shaves due to everything I read says that if they lose the wire coat debris sticks and all that stick into their hair a lot worse after they’ve been shaved. Do you find this to be true or is that just an old-school thought
@Dognormousllc2 жыл бұрын
This dog lives along a river and does a lot of critter chasing (including a beaver escapade) and swimming. It is true, their coat does get much softer the more you clip. He is hand stripped normally, but for the video, I clipped him after I pulled on his jacket just for this lesson. His face was not savable from his previous groomer clipping his jacket, so that is the only part that gets clipped. My clipped wires come in with many more burs in their coat than this guy does. If you found someone to hand strip, or are capable of doing it yourself, I would keep with it. If you can't get them hand stripped, I would keep a slicker brush on hand to keep the woods out of the coat.

how often does a Wire FOx Terrier need a full groom?

So, to be sure I understand, if I hand strip the body, you can still clipper just to blend without losing the vibrant colors? Beautiful job on beautiful Winston!

What size blade attachments did you use for the body please x
@Dognormousllc3 жыл бұрын
The 2 guard comb is my favorite length for the terriers, which would be equivalent to a 4 blade. I'll sometimes take flat work on the shoulder and rear a little shorter with 4 guard comb/ 5 blade.

@@Dognormousllc my blade guard attachments go by 3, 6, 9 and 12mm, so which do I use where?
@Dognormousllc2 жыл бұрын
@@wallybusch7252 I would use you're 12 mm comb to do the body work. For areas you want a little tighter, grab the 9 and blend the two lengths with thinners. I wouldn't go much shorter than that, just to keep a little natural protection for the skin.

My favorite length for terriers is the 2 gc which would be about the same as a 4 blade.

My dog is a female wirefox terrier who has been neglected and abandoned, luckily she's loved and knows her home now and all that, but how do I go about sorting all her hair out after cutting? It always comes back greasy and curly in knots which makes her look like we neglect her fur and I get really frustrated not knowing how too go about it (I can't take her too a vet as she jumps shakes and sometimes nibble/bites from her past she thinks people are hurting her, she won't be like that with us as she knows us but a vet she wouldn't know the person touching her and she gets very scared/protective over herself and others when she doesn't know someone and they try stroking her like of they move towards her too fast, so how can I go about getting the knots/grease out and getting her fur all nice, Thankyou for the help!

Well it sounds like there are a bit of things you'll need to work on here. If she is matted, or tangled, then all of that will need to be shaved off. I would highly recommend getting a professional involved as this can be dangerous when matting is involved. If she's really oily to the point that even after the bath, she oils right back up, you may want to get her checked up by a vet. For your normal oiliness, you can try shampooing her and conditioning her with a good product (I use Iv San Bernard for my clients), which will help rid her of the oiliness and still keep the good stuff she needs there. Word to the wise, if you do not rinse all the product out, you will be causing more problems for yourself down the road, like more oiliness. What I feel your girl really needs is some grooming socialization. It's good to start showing her that strangers are okay, it helps prepare her if there were ever an emergency and you are seeking aid from another or even a vet. If no groomer wants to take on that challenge, as it is a long and time consuming process both on their and your part, then I would start with upping the quality of your shampoo and conditioner, invest in a slicker brush and a comb, and if that goes well for you, you can take a look at some grooming tools to complete the hair cut. I hope this helps both you and her find some relieve 🤍

I love that you suggest owners working with their dogs, I know I would love to see that for all my clients! I promise you though, this little guy bounds in with so much energy and excitement, he is really the best wire fox I've ever had on my table! He's not a particular fan of the blow dryer, but for a terrier, I really can't complain. I'm sure the camera and the bit of extra lighting in the space, has him a bit off Thank you for your concerns and very kind words!
