@wilhelmuskruize96815 ай бұрын
Thanks for showing me an easy way to get to the oil filter, I was looking at a by pass filter but you have shown me an easier way. I used to get it done by a garage every 10,000 and I would do one in between but the pirates charge too much and are incompetent. For the last time they did a service they informed me that the diffs and transfer case needed to be drained and refilled for the oils were dirty. So I spent a day doing that and the whole lot was as clean a a whistle and did not require doing. They also advised me that the clutch and brakes needed flushing which was crap for I had done that about 1500 ks before when I prepped the vehicle to go to cape york and they wanted to charge me nearly $800 to do the job. Well that is the last time REPCO will get my vehicle.

Did my first Oil Change in the first week of buying the Patrol back in December 2019, did not think anything off it at the time, being a new car to me, but did not notice a Oil Canister Spigot/Keeper as you called it . . . in the old filter when I changed it out . . . and again at it's 160,000klm Service. About a month ago I came across a post in one of the Patrol forums about a thing called a "Spigot" or Oil Filter Keeper as you called it . . . and I started thinking . . . well 170,000klm Oil Change last week . . . found my Oil Canister Spigot/Keeper was missing . . . . yep my fears were correct. Don't know how long it's been missing, but my Patrol thanks to Patrolapart now has a Oil Filter Spigot again, and funny how after 30 odd klm's of driving, can hear a slight turbo and engine whistle . . . thinking the filter might be filtering the oil lol. Dose make me wonder how long the spigot was missing, and what if any, damage has been done, and the benefit's of knowing and knowing how to service your own vehicle, or having a trusted mechanic service your vehicle.

Tim, the washers are copper, not brass and if the washer on the sump is a straight copper washer and not the compressible type that must be replaced, you should anneal it before using it again. The problem with copper is that it hardens over time and this is called 'work hardening' and to return the washer to a more malleable state so it seals correctly, you hold it into a flame until it becomes cherry red and then let it cool. It must be heated to cherry red and that is important. Also, sump plugs have a torque setting, you should use a torque wrench. With regards to the filter, all good except, you need to put some fresh oil into the filter before screwing it back up. This means that there is oil in there when you start up and your engine isn't starved of oil whilst the filter fills up.
@timbates4wdadventures3 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, The washer that i do use is the standard compressible washer that i get with the oil filter from Nissan. I will look into the torque setting for the sump plug and see what that is. G'day mate, The timing chain was replaced last year when the head gasket went. While the motor was apart, i had that replaced. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.

@@johnlong6010 I didn't do the job mate. My mechanic did all the work. Not sure how long it would take, if just doing the timing chain. As i mentioned above, this was done while pretty much the whole top and front was off the motor. Worth looking into if you haven't replaced one for a while. If that chain brakes, it's goodbye motor. Hope that helps mate.

@@johnlong6010 The ZD30 does receive a lot of bad press, but like anything if you look after it. It's then got as good a chance as any engine to go the distance. Thanks mate for your feedback.

My dad and I do every 7000 on my 4wd and keep a book on what we do on the 4wd for fixing things.

Patrick Robertson Gday Patrick, Yeah cool mate. Stick with what works. Great idea keeping a book and what you have done on your 4wd. Same with my book on how often I do my oil changes. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.

Hey Tim , what’s the Brand of the engine flush that you used in this video? Cheers.
@bentheguru49863 жыл бұрын
HPR 15W/50, 10W/40 bit weak under heat. No need for flush and 10K intervals are fine. 5K is a waste. If you are sooting your oil enough for 5K, fix your fueling issues. You don't even have big boots, reach in from the top.
@timbates4wdadventures3 жыл бұрын
G'day Ben, Im changing oil and filter every 5k intervals. Have dont so since the engine ticked over 200000ks now 345000ks, I'll keep that up. Not adding the flush at those intervals. Getting to the filter from the top, i have to much stuff in the way. So much easier going in through the wheel arch. 'Thanks heaps for your feedback mate. Cheers Tim.

@@timbates4wdadventures 405000+ on my ZD, still pulling stronger ever while giving me nearly 10K/L with my 35"s. Look at the oil when you check the levels, if the oil is sooted up, time to change. If you hit 10K interval, change but if you are at 5K and oild still passes light through it and film is not breaking down, early changes are just throwing money away. As for the mention of HPR-15W/50, give it a wirl, you will notice it will like it better. Oils have advanced a bit since the ZD was cast.

@@bentheguru4986 That’s great Ks on the clock and getting that fuel range. I’m getting mid to high 13ltrs per 100. I’ll look into that oil you have mentioned. I’ve always used 10w 40.

How is your oil so clean on the dip stick after the change ? As soon as I start it and check to top up it's black .

G;day Jordan, My oil is always clean like that after an oil change. Thats how it should be. Not sure what oil you are using. But oil shouldnt be dark straight after an oil change. Thanks for your question mate,. ' Cheers TIm
