brilliant pump idea. i made one to decant my fuel on the canning stock route. save all the huffing and puffing dragging fuel around and spilling it. i just put the hose in, raised the air pressure and ...job done. the guys on the trip with me said this is called a tanami pump.

Thanx for uploading this great video mate. I paid $20 for the hand oil pump to pump the diff/gear oil. Its a bitch of a thing to operate with thick oil and takes ages to pump all the oil into diff/gearbox, etc. On the other hand, I could've made this simple device of your for few dollar and save lot of time and energy in the process. The pressure pump bottle is pretty useful regardless of we use a manual hand/foot pump or 12V electric pump. Ingenious and simple. It takes a fair bit creativity to come up with something that's already been around but not used much in backyards.
@Alex.G8 жыл бұрын
+dom ari Yeah at the time I didn't realise that the hand oil pump existed! And I had already drained my oil so there was no running down to the auto parts shop for me. I just threw that together with what I had laying around haha! It sure does work quite nicely.
@domari94598 жыл бұрын
Intents Offroad Yeah mate, that's the beauty of it. Sometime it helps not knowing too much about the crap available in parts shops, so your creativity can flourish. I'm honestly really embarrassed that this didn't cross my mind, since I have all the bits and pieces to make it in a short time. But, the reason is obvious. You have to have a certain Macgyver mind set to come up with ideas. The way I did the diff('cos I got sick of the hand pump bottle) was, I raised the rear of the vehicle on ramp and used a long hose with a funnel attached to it. Another messy way of doing it. :) Not to mention, that method is not all that handy with the gearbox oil filling. :)

According to the Haynes manual. My 5 speed manual transmission (FS5R50B) on my 2010 Patrol ST 3.0L CRD takes 3.5L SAE 75W-90 GL4 oil. I drained the gearbox on level ground and got a little over 4L in mine before she started spewing out the fill hole. The automatic 4-speed takes 12.0L of Nissan Matic D or Dexron III. The automatic 5-speed takes 11.0L of Nissan Matic J.

I own a 2010 Nissan Patrol Safari GL Trim which has an autmatic transmission and a 4.8 L inline 6 petrol engine. Around 4 months ago I took my car to the mechanic and he put around 6 L of differential oil into the front differential and a month after that my car would randomly feel heavy and its tachometer wouldn't pass 2 RPM and when steering it always made a screeching sound. I then discovered that it requiresn1.5 L of differential oil instead of the 6 and after making that change my car drove smoothly again and the screeching sound when turning the steering wheel disappeared.

Silly question maybe, but why do you need to remove filler plug before drain plug? *learning.. Good video, by the way
@Alex.G8 жыл бұрын
+Alice Tocher legit question. Should have mentioned that! Drain and filler plugs often seem to be seized for whatever reason, so it's just making sure you can get the fill plug out before you drain it all and realise you can't drive anywhere if the filler plug won't move.

@Alex.G9 жыл бұрын
+LordEthan2 thanks mate! glad you're enjoying them and thanks for alerting me to the bit I missed, I'll put a little note on the video. The fill plug for the gearbox is the same type as the rest of them and is located on the right hand side, about half way up the gearbox. You fill it full, or to just below the bottom of the filler hole as well.

how often would you need to do this ?
@Alex.G6 жыл бұрын
Standard interval is about 50,000 kilometres. You'd wanna check it regularly if you do a lot of water and mud driving and change it if it looks milky. If the vehicle sees a lot of that sort of driving you might do it as often as every 20,000

just wondering Alex, what egt does the 2.8 litre run at? my mate has a 3litre at that gets up to 800 degrees
@Alex.G9 жыл бұрын
+Rolly B It's about 350 to 400 degrees at 100k's an hour, on a flat piece of highway. The roof top tent causes it to be pretty high, and use a lot more fuel. 800 degrees is a little bit hot!

@jasonkuy71008 жыл бұрын
how often do you have to do this? as ive never done it before
@Alex.G8 жыл бұрын
+Jason Kuy for the diffs the Nissan handbook recommends every 50k. I think transfer and gearbox are every 80k. I do my diffs about every 30k though, or more often if I've been in a lot of water. I do transmissions at about 50k
@domari94598 жыл бұрын
+Intents Offroad Yeah, it's not a bad thing to better the recommended interval, especially on diffs. They tend to absorb moisture lot faster through the breathers and degrade the quality of the oil inside.

Hi, just wondering if someone can help? I got a Nissan Navara D40 and looks like I have LSD in rear diff. Manual suggests 80W-90 GL5 type fluid. I found this one only in mineral. I was thinking to use full synthetic which comes in 80W-140 GL5 also says for LSD type diff by Penrite, same is used in this video. Is it OK to use? Don't know why 80W-140 was listed for standard diff in my manual.
@Alex.G4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that 80w 140 will be fine. If you look up your vehicle on the penrite website you'll find their vehicle selector and in there it will recommend that oil as an option

I would have put fully synthetic 75w-140 LS GL-5 in the diffs. Gearbox and transfercase would have gotten 75w-90 GL4 fully synthetic. Lower drivetrain temps and seals that last longer. Also your diffs and gearbox will love this. Nice setup for filling up the oils. On mu UTE they recommended dextron 3 in transfer case, I filled it up with 75w-90 GL4 fully synthetic and it is a lot quieter.
