Congratulations, Mel. I'm learning a lot with your projects, you're really good. As a spaniard, I am very proud that a Spanish company like Acrílicos Vallejo is one of the world leaders in modeling products. Greetings from Vigo, Galicia.

There are a number of alternative products you can use - and most artist stores will have these acrylic gels sold as thickening agents for painting ( liquitex and windsor & newton and other brands). Not sure but last time i checked Vallejo was just using the same products, relabelled and with a price increase. Mod Podge is another product thats cheaper and gives a similar effect. Another informative video - thanks Mel

I would have thought that the wet sand would be darker than the dry sand. The foam stipple looks very nice

Professional quality terraining Mel. The video work is technically good too. You on the other hand, are a complete screw up. And brother we love ya for it. ;-) You said something at the very end there that got me thinking... We as wargamers are not "just" supporting you. We are supporting our hobby. A club is only as successful as its members. Without everyone contributing a little something once in a while the club dies. Whether running a game for everyone or just stacking chairs when its over, everybody has to pitch in.

I've worked with Vallejo transparent water several times and it's really great stuff. In the past, I've used it over strips of clear plastic to get waterfall effects, and I imagine you could use it to get that rough 'wave-breaking' look against the big rock formation at the edge of the beach. Cut the plastic into irregular shapes, apply the water effects on, and ta-da. Obviously that's a bit too late for this board, but food for thought in the future.

oh, I like that as a substructure idea, I'll have a play with that, cheers bud!

Great vid! As a geography teacher, I feel you could further improve the realism if you consider the action of swash and back wash on the coast line.

Great stuff here. You mentioned a video of Mike of all the physics of waves. Do you have a link where to find this?

Hi there I was wondering... if you used the white and say added reds, oranges and yellows could you mix up your own lava effects? Could be really handy!
@TheTerrainTutor6 жыл бұрын
Might be worth a play and see what we can come up with bud

TheTerrainTutor its just an idea, but with it any colour could be used I am guessing. Greens for slime or browns for mud etcetera. Loving the videos by the way! ☺

Hello great vids,just wanted to ask if you have ever used clear silicon for making sea,tried once and it seemed ok.

Hi, great video! Just a quick question: the white you used for the surf drybrush was that Vallejos foam and snow effect or simply white paint?
@TheTerrainTutor8 жыл бұрын
they're actually the same thing .... white acrylic ;-)

So for my project I am going to need to go up about 30 or 40 mil (maybe more). Do you recommend building it up in layers letting each layer setup before going up more, or can I build the full height with one or two applications?
@kevinm37517 жыл бұрын
I dont know if anyone has seen this video but a Josh Evenson uses tinted surf board resin to create some of the most awesome waves I have ever seen. Sadly there is no tutorial that I have found on how he achieved this effect but still a stunning showcase. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zl6knGiDg6yrqdk

I always used to think that Vallejo was pronounced "Ver-ledge-e-o". The layout is wonderful.
@TheTerrainTutor8 жыл бұрын
I have no idea how it's pronounced but that's just my way. Cheers bud
@euansmith36998 жыл бұрын
No you were pronouncing it correctly. I only found out after years of mispronouncing it when watching a thing about the artist Boris Vallejo.

what works really well is a flat square of perhaps 4 x 4 attached to a handle. you lay the flat 4 x 4 surface on the wet gell and lift. great wave effect without the air bubble. or clear wrap: first 20 seconds of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZjcmpJ_pp1mkMk wow, that foam is spot on!

Although it looks very good, your sea seems to be too abruptly deep. The beach should gradually disappear below the waves.
@TheTerrainTutor6 жыл бұрын
Actually, the d-day beaches were deep water beaches to allow the landing craft to get as close to the sand as possible beofre the soldiers had to wade to the shore.

After about three videos, you really internalize it. I grin every time now. When i was young, i had an uncle that would do this screwy laugh every other sentence. But he was the fun uncle. That's kinda how I've come to feel about Our Host here. The tic adds to the experience.
