The way the light was flashing on your final reveal shot almost made the crystals look transparent. Your final touches with the stones and the tufts just brought it all together. My trick to offer on this is where you use white glue on these, consider using matte Mod Podge, both full strength and diluted. Unlike PVA, it doesn't re-wet or soften... something to be concerned about when you finish with wet techniques like your black wash.
@DevsDice3 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent suggestion Jennell! Thank you so much! I will try to remember that! 👍😊

That's a lot of crystals to paint! I've done smaller ones by cutting up glue sticks (which give a nice transparency) and adding nail polish to shine them up a bit, but the ones you have are much larger so the foam makes total sense. As always, great work.
@DevsDice3 жыл бұрын

I really really love this video, Leif! I made some crystals (smaller than yours) for my cave terrain and in an attempt to show some depth, rather than just flat styrofoam, I coated it in gloss Mod Podge, Minwax, and gloss finish acrylic sealer, and yours look better because you understood how to paint it! I didn't think to use my airbrush! Or to apply paint to the edges the way you did! Also that darker color! I made mine light blue. I also didn't realize how important it was to lose the styrofoam texture. Awesome! Now I have a new way to make crystals! Two thumbs up my friend! BTW what is a Dev? My 35-year-old daughter couldn't even figure that one out!
@DevsDice3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words Frank! 👍😊 So the Devs has a bit of a weird story behind it. The short version is that it stands for "Developer". You see my channel used to be a lot of so-called "tabletop actual-play"-videos, where I and my friends at work would sit down and play some D&D etc. We are are game developers and we are throwing some dice, hence Devs & Dice. Then I started with miniature painting and that really took off. So I decided to split up the content into two channels, that being said, I have yet to upload anything to the other channel! 👍😊😂

Yes! My viking painting brother from an other mother is back. Nice crystals. Made me crave some candy looking at them. You had me scared for a moment i almost thought youd quit. And that I would have to buy a camera and start tubeing to fill the quote of sweeds painting minis on youtube. Thank Odin you didnt put the rest of youtube through that especialysince i forgo most warnings and safety regulation. My moded anglegrinder that i use would make youtube crap there pants. And people would lose fingers trying to copy it and blame me. Anyway brother keep up the good work. And ill be waiting to see what youll do next. Oh yeah i moght have a challange for ya.
