All right guys, now we're going to talk about leg locks, and ankle locks in particular. There are a few variations of leg locks and it depends what sport you're doing them for. If you're doing for Anime [sp], you could do them a lot of different ways, and you do a thing we call reaping. If you're doing them for sport Jiu-Jitsu, reaping is illegal, so you have to tailor your leg lock accordingly. First, we'll do the BJJ Jiu-Jitsu legal leg lock, which is not as powerful as the reaping leg lock but they're illegal in Jiu-Jitsu. So if you're competing in Jitsu, you can't reap. Let's talk about issues here. I'm going to be here, I get and grip around his leg, step in, my foot comes here, go here, and I fall on my side. I want to scoot back as far as possible and have all my weight on his toenail, right there. And I don't want the foot to go back straight, I want it to curve, like that. I never want to go back straight (Chad, just push back).
See? Very strong. Look at this, if I turn his foot this way, that's it. Okay? So I'm here, I'm all the way back. (Chad, do resistive for awhile.) Now here, rotate back and turn his foot. Notice I'm not even gripping my hand. Watch this. Advance. Keep defense. Look. That same thing, turning. That's IBJJF, Jiu-Jitsu legal leg lock. But, there's a better way to do it. It's legal. I'm going to get my leg lock here, but instead of falling to that side, like I did here, I have to fall this side because I can't reap. I'm going to reap my leg over this way.
This is a little dangerous, though, that's why it's illegal. Be careful with your training partners. Don't kick down too hard in your J [sp]. But if it's an Anime fight you can kick as hard as you want. Guys, I'm going to do it on this side. Now I'm going to switch sides. Here, step in, try to pass, I get the foot, step in. I like to kick here, very deep, fall, and reap over and hide my feet in this grip. Holding the leg really tight, I clamp down and he taps. I can easily transition into the Field Hook, which I'll talk about later, or here, just basic leg lock, and he taps. If he doesn't tap here, I'm going to switch to this, and do this rear-naked choke with one-two right here. And again putting all the weight on his toe, and then turning this way. See, turning his foot, not straight back, turning his foot. And that's a leg lock, reaping and not.

I never thought about it before seeing this vid. I've been submitted to an ankle lock but also been able to defend it, but when it's done right, it put me into panic mode. Now I understand why.

There is a reason why "reaping" is illegal. There is a very high possibility that your opponent or training partner, or whoever you have there, will have a broken knee.

I thought it was a achiless lock? Im not sure ofc.
@rooky3526
@rooky3526 5 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly an achiles lock is basically the same as a straigt ankle lock in where you fall back instead of turning to your side, your basically hyper-extending the foot straight and you'd put the bone of your forearm behind the achilles. In this ankle lock, you can see that they're hyper-extending the foot inward with the sole of the opponent's feet basically facing your body when you're applying it.

For most of these I would worry about injuring the knee short of breaking it. The knee is a very important joint for regular life. If you damage it at all you'll be paying for it short of knee replacement surgery, for the rest of your life. Minor knee stuff has a tendency not to fully heal, and to aggregate forever more.

This is so weird I’ve always had people do this to me but it’s never hurt enough to tap. I had my bro do it me as hard as he and it hurt but not enough to make me tap. Has anyone else ever had this?
@twistedscience7479
@twistedscience7479 2 жыл бұрын
I mentioned above, I've had ankle locks put on me that I easily defended but other times tapped quickly in a panic. I think the part about turning the foot is the difference for me. We don't have muscles to fight that.

That's the thing about jujitsu, it gives people a false sense of security in their skills... there are NO RULES in real life situations... even something like this "illegal" leg lock (in jujitsu) which SHOULD be legal, is prohibited. It's almost as if they PURPOSELY want to make it easier for females to use their inherent strengths, while disallowing the strengths of the male... That's not doing the ladies any favors, because it doesn't prepare them for real situations they may encounter.
