One tip I can give for someone who has mastered the forward crossovers but struggles with the backwards is that when you are trying to crossover backwards you don’t lift your leg as much as you do forward. You are mostly sliding it to the front. This really helped because when I tried to do the same technique for the backwards crossovers I had difficulty distributing my weight in each leg. Hope this helps!

It’s still the same, I figure skate, and I’m with all the coaches it’s the same process you have to tradition your weight and or keep it on the inside leg depending on rather you’re going left or right.

I'm the opposite, have always done backward crossovers easily and front crossovers feel so awkward as if I'm going to lose my balance and fall. This video is the most in-depth though, so will give it a try!

​@@nataliemafima3725 For practicing my forward cross overs, I like to get in the center of the rink where everyone is doing spins, but at one end of the rink. There's relatively little traffic there, and if not crowded I can claim a circle there as "my space" (in my mind, haha). Then I start skating in a circle fast and doing the cross overs fast. I do about 100. Doing them at a fast speed and for 100 reps starts to smooth them out. If you can do them at all, sometimes "learning by doing" rather than working slowly on technique, may be a good way forward.

Yeah, I feel like that too...no talent. Maybe it's possible for some talented people to pick up ice skating easily, but I'm going to take a stand and say that ice skating is intensely difficult and most anyone will need to work at it diligently to get good. I'm in classes and there's a giant laundry list of skills needed, and even the most simple, like forward one foot glide, require time, patience, and practice. My dad did not seem like the kind of guy that would tediously work at something like ice skating. Yet, when he was in the armed air corp in Germany he apparently was a great skater. I can't imagine he worked at it anywhere nearly as hard as I have (to barely get anywhere at age 62), so it must have come to him easily. He was a poor kid from Texas and Arkansas, so he didn't skate as a kid. He was jumping barrels (!), "showing off" (his words), and blew the landing and hit his ankle with his blade, slicing it open. I guess he fully recovered because I never knew him to limp or anything, but he never skated again.

i don’t think you really need a tutorial for this. if you already know how to stop while going backwards, just play with where you’re putting the weight on your skates

If you're feeling unstable with your feet side by side when you're doing this, try having one foot more forwards than the other one.

@@MrMendel12 I managed to stop with one foot in the front but everytime i try to put both feet closer together, i lose controll and slip over. I guess this is just a thing of training, getting a feeling for it... ill keep on training Ty for the help

this is definitely planned, however I won't have time for this in this winter. At the moment I can suggest learning the basic tricks: eagle, stops on all 4 edges, ground touches, triangle, grapevine

I am struggling with backwards one foot glide. If I can see the reflection from the glass it’s better, otherwise I just couldn’t keep my balance. Is it a physiological thing...? 😓

If u want more speed in crossovers u need to make sure ur left leg is straigjt when ur crossing. I can skate fast i skate 111meters in 10.6seconds

Everybody's one side is stronger than the other. Always practice both sides and you will get there. You will see something will click in your brain and it ll start to get easier and easier.

Unfortunalely the more expensive skates the better they get... just take as much money as you can and get ones that fits your feet. Thats most important - skates have to fit your feet as perfectly as possible.

@@4554646 the best brands outthere arw bauer and ccm. If you have any hockey/ice skating store near you, you should definitely fit as many skates as possible and you take these with best fit on your foot. Bauer and ccm have 3 types. For Bauer it is Vapor (the tighest), Supreme (kinda regular) and Nexus (rather loose fit). In CCM there are Jetspeeds(like Vapor), Tacks(like Supreme) and Ribcore(like Nexus, with pump). So jump to the store and fit them all if possible. For 250$ you can buy pretty nice pair of skates.

I'm no beginner but when I do crossovers in a right turn my right ankle always bend to the side and I can't bring any power on the ice. In left crossovers I'm stable and fast. What can I do?

right seems to be the weaker side for most of the people because the crowd skates to left. It can easily be a muscle weakness. If you use cheaper skates, the materials can also bend, but I'm just guessing. Lacing issue can also be a factor. I have a lacing tutorial on the bottom of my channel. But still I think it's must muscle strength and muscle memory problem.
