when dancing the jive ,using the jive chasse timed Q,a,Q(quick,a,quick) it can be called triple jive, the basic in fallaway consists of 2 Q steps(or rock)& 2 jive chasses,the timing would then be, Q,Q, QaQ, QaQ these one & half bar constructions are the most commonly used figures when learning the Jive,so when dancing the basic in fallaway etc we do have 8 steps,however i would call it Q,Q, QaQ QaQ, rather than counting 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 hope that helps?

At my Latin and Ballroom dancing classes we lean this aswell as the Cha Cha, Quickstep,Walts and Samba. I am starting competitions soon against a friend who has not been doing it as long as me but thinks she's better lol. If she sees this, Ava, your not better than me ok. It's obvious that everyone at school thinks so.

Is this dance very taxing on the knees?
@cjbr659 жыл бұрын
Sean Ang It can be. There are several 'styles' that are common and some are hard on the knees. In general the more you accent the upward action the easier it is on the knees. If you're hitting the floor hard with your feet on each 'tick' it will certainly put undue strain on the knee joint.

Why don't the dancers face with their back to the camera when teaching? Otherwise, everything is opposite and difficult to replicate when you are watching front on (mirror image). When I was taught ballroom dancing at social classes, the teacher had his back to the class so that you could copy exactly without having to adjust for a mirror image. This was easy to follow and learn. I can see the instructors are talented dancers; but please make it easier for us at home to copy the steps.

I love to dance swing, but dancing jive is completely different! Why? Because of the amount of energy expended. Jive knee action wears me out. I can dance swing all night long and never get winded - not so with jive. I dance one song and sit out for two. Ha! Jive is for the very young.

Funny to see, how Jive got its basic from Lindy Hop and made the dance "white" = no feeling, no "rhythm" - and by the way, there aint no such thing as "jive music" as you can Jive dance to everything that goes 4/4 beat measure. However, there is a difference in Swing music, Rock music and modern music that goes 4/4 beat. In the end, it is all about the feeling. Take a look at the original jive dance from the 40s and see what "rug cuttin´" is :)
