How to do Cummins killer dowel pin fix ( kdp)

Thanks for posting. I'm in the middle of replacing my oil seal ('95 w. 283k miles) Figured I'd do the kdp. Didn't know what to look for but thanks to you....no sweat.

Thanks, i have my first 12 valve and was wondering about this pin, the engine has been sitting for awhile, i'm in no rush i may replace all the gaskets and do the pin fix at the same time.

I did mine almost the same way. Made a piece from aluminum

is this only on certain years of the cummins 5-9? have interest on a 2003 ram with the 5.9 24v. has just over 200k miles. other would it be a concern it doesn't blow out any black soot when accelerator depressed? it passes las vegas smog regulations.

it's juts a 89-2002 thing. But some of the vp44 engine don’t need it.

I thought 18ft/lbs was the torque specs on the case bolts

The 10.9 bolt torque is 27ftpound ( Cummins say 18 ) but I found you don’t have issues when doing 22-28. Just what I do

This may be a stupid question, but is there any reason as to why you couldnt just completely remove the dowel pin from its spot? Or does it HAVE to be in there?

It keep the case from shifting. So it a good idea for it to be there

See, I didn't know that! I appreciate the knowledge. This is the first diesel I've owned that wasn't an old 6.2 or 6.5. I've been learning as much as I can so I can tackle some of these jobs on my own and save some money. 535,000 kilometers I got this truck at. I'd like to try and take care of it and keep it on the road. Thank you again sir!

Need dowel to align case , you will have a hard time pulling dowel pin out with case install, no reason to pull out. I take a chisel or a punch & stake the pin hole of case .
