A very interesting side note I learned from this video is that if I push a colour too much and it starts causing problems, desaturating that colour will help with that by reducing the stretch!

@Joo.Works Wow... very well explained! I was just searching for how to use the Color Warper more efficiently and I ended up buying your ACES course after I saw the free videos on your homepage. Well done! :-)

Hmm... I think it just takes some time for KZbin to get the 4k version up. Try again soon.

I think using the word "ACES-LITE", you are going to cause a lot of confusion in the industry eventually to new comers. As this is not a standard and it is already a complex subject for beginners. You have to realise, no one in the entire industry has done anything remotely like this with the word ACES. And I mean thousands of people in the industry understand that it is good practice not to mess around with names like this as it causes issues. Aces was created exactly to allow for clarity, and you are doing the exact opposite of that by messing with the name like this.

Had this talk with the people behind ACES a year ago. I agree and they agree with you. :D That's why I have a disclaimer. Originally ACES was created for clarity, but after talking with people in the organisation it self, It's quite clear to me that no one fully understand ACES and all it's different standard. ACES is not just an option in resolve's drop down list for CMS, as we know. For example do you know what The red modifier and glow module variables does in ACES? Or what are SMPTE ST 2065-4, SMPTE ST 2065-5 and SMPTE 2067-50? Everyone just says that "This is not ACES and this is ACES". To me they (the academy) said that the reason why ACES lite is not ACES, is because ACES must be done trough scene linear space... oh well. (So you just can't use real ACES in display referred softwares). My theory was that ACES was supposed to become a global CMS for all color application, but then it was not adopted as planed. For example Resolve created their own CMS... So the "original real ACES" is not in use anywhere. Sorry. I might create un-clarity be creating a method like this, but on the other hand I'm making ACES accessible to people. Not the real ACES, but the benefits. But I don't really see no harm in my method. There is about 1000+ people using ACES lite... How many are the in the film making world? And after going trough the course you understand the real ACES much better as well. I think our real enemy here is KZbin in general. KZbin is full of miss information about color grading (maybe some other stuff as well). But I think KZbin is more benefit than harm.

@@JooWorks It isn't about the disclaimer only. Your disclaimer does not get to all the places the word "ACES-LITE" reaches. You are doing something that is very damaging and you are aware of it. If you actually want to help. Use a totally different name and simply use a disclaimer to say "Based on ACES" Davinci resolve took the simple route naming there simple take on ACES differently. You are not doing newcomers any favours by doing the "ACES-LITE". In spite of the people behind ACES telling you this is not a good idea. In spite of the entire industry not doing what you are doing, you have still forged ahead. Understand, I thought your information you were giving was good, but you are coming off as parasitic by doing this. I for a moment was confused and took about 30-40 min googling to see if there was actually an ACES-LITE. Hell even opencolor-IO understand the importance of giving it another name. So i want to say this. You know it has and will cause problems, the official people even recommended you do not do this, and yet you forged ahead. There is nothing about this that a colorist who already are in fight to grasp these technical hurdles can appreciate from this in that this is clearly only for your self benefit, and you will disagree with this last statement, as even the ACES people asked you not to do this and you still went ahead. In the long run, colorist such as myself will not appreciate what you are doing, and that is a pity that you are doing this to the knowledge that you do seem to have. Remember, postproduction world is a small closed community, and at some point this will affect your career in ways you do not know yet, because doing this and trying to sell a course about "ACES-LITE", does not come off well.

@Tideon It's always bit difficult to have these conversations because ...well even professional colourist are not sometimes really on knowledgabel about color science. And so as I only see your profile name, I don't know what is your level on understanding these things, but let's assume you know your stuff. I hope you don't mind me asking. 1. How do you do ACES them? Can you give me a summary? 2. what is the problem in ACES lite? Is it ACEScct as a working space? Or are you referring to me using LUTs as IDTs? Or is it that I don't use render in 16bit float or what is the issue? 3. Have you not seen professional use ACEScct as a working color space? 4. How is it harmful that people learn ACES lite? Do you think that in some near future people would actually understand ACES on a deeper level and me teaching ACES lite is slowing that process down? And I understand that these things are easy to take as ego battles, but I'm interested to understand your point of view.

@@JooWorks you completely stepped over the point. Forget it. If the aces team spoke to you, and I just explained to you in detail the damage you are doing, and for you to come to me with this line of questions. Then I know you are going to waiste my time. I don't need any responses anymore. Continue down this path. I have things to focus on. Good bye.
