The perfect tutorial: enough information, but not overly chatty! To the point but with enough detail. Thank you so much!

Thanks again for a good, no-frills explanation. One point to note: others say to score the paper with an X in the middle of the appliqué, so that you are peeling it away on a stable, fully-woven section of fabric, rather than flicking at the raw edge which may fray or distort. But kudos for "read the instructions" for your choice of fusible web! Steam/no steam AND temperature/length of time required to fuse are all important to get a good results - too many people overheat the glue and it just evaporates away!

Thank you so much for this. I always thought applique work is for pros and didn't think of even attempting to do it. How awesomely simple you've shown it to be! So easy to grasp your instructions. All those leftover scraps can now get a second wind and be of use.

@melanielink87 No problem! You should.. it's so easy! p.s.- to clean your iron use a Magic Eraser soaked in water, lay it over a folded up towel. Turn your iron on high heat and swipe it across the wet magic eraser until all the burnt adhesive is gone. That's how I clean my irons.

Thank you so much for such a clear and simple instruction. I made two pillowcases with hearts on them for my grandkids and I didn’t know how to do it! I just cut them out of fabric and pinned them to a pillow case and used an embroidery hoop to hold the fabric tight then I sewed around the edges. I guess I should have asked somebody first!! I hope they last through the washing’s!!!🤣😂🤣😂. You got me all excited now! I’m going in my craft room to find some fusible paper! I’ve just been spraying the hearts with spray starch then ironing them flat onto the pillowcases then pinning in place so that they would be nice and stiff to sew on!!! Thanks! (I’m only 75; you would think I’d know)!!❤️🌸❣️💗💞🌷🌹

I've learned so much from you in less than 30 minutes tonight!! What I like about your tutorials is that you get right to the point without a lot of chitter chatter. Then when I was reading the comments, I also learned how to clean the gunk off of my iron (had an accident with the Wonder Under). BTW, I use the same little iron next to my sewing machine - it's GREAT. Thanks again for all you do for us!

@madmadi1210 I have heard of reversible applique but have never tried it. I think if you used it for that purpose you would only apply it to the part of the fabric that would be hidden behind the other fabric. You definitely don't want it on the exposed part because it will give the fabric a sticky/glossy looking finish. I would not put it on the whole piece of fabric- just the part that isn't showing. Try it out on a scrap and see how it works for you. Have fun!
@TheCraftyGemini13 жыл бұрын
@vickila82 Thanks. What do you mean the glue stained the "front" of the fabric. Do you mean around the edges or that the glue was exposed to the iron and got burnt on the fabric? You have to be careful to only press on the release paper and not to allow the iron to touch the adhesive itself. I suggest inspecting your fusible before using it. If you buy more fusible than you need and keep it flat, the adhesive will peel off the paper too easily and can lead to a mess.

Oh yay! You're my favorite youtube sewing teacher and I just did a blind youtube search for "how to machine applique" and yours was one of the first I saw! Needless to say, yours went into more detail than I've heard/seen elsewhere - which I totally need. Loving the Crafty Gemini! ;) I do have a q though: any tips for appliqueing a thick red velvet heart (seems to have an almost soft denim backing...found in bin of old fabrics inherited) - onto a larger soft denim heart (to become a pillow)?

@Molly587049 I have like 8 sewing machines. All ranging in price from $60 - $2,000. If you are a beginner I suggest trying to get your hands on a used machine to learn the basics and then you can figure out what type of machine you are willing to invest in for what you want to do. Check craigslist in your area there are usually decent working machines for really low prices. Otherwise, I get my machines online or from a dealer that sells that specific brand of machine.

Hi, i just subscribed to your youtube videos, and I wanna say you are really a good teacher. Now I noticed your little iron. I love it. I have a Rowenta small iron, but its a little awkward to use. As the handle is long and has a small attached cord. I noticed in this video that yours is cordless? May I please get the name of your Iron and where you got it from.? Thank you. Rosy C.
