I'm having the hardest time with the gas tank mount, another channel said that the standard way of mounting them with the brackets underneath causes them to leak because the vibrations pull on the bolt welds... is that true? Because the solution they recommended I can't get to work at all!

Soon as it starts up the engine is already in motion to go without me using the throttle when I squeeze the clutch the engine shuts off when I open the choker to give it some air engine shuts off.why if you don't mind me ask? When it does start up it stays on for a few second then shuts off on its own

Can you turn a motorized bicycle upside down, after it has been gassed up? I'm guilty of overtightening, kept thinking of the vibrations. Also I used black rubberized flex tape on the engine mounts thinking it would help it grip to the bike. Now I guess I got to take it all off and loosen it all.....

Hi Houston, really nice video, very complete and useful, right now Im using 32ml of oil per litre (you say on your video that you use 25ml without problem) the thing is I get too much carbon build up the mixture its just right, since making it leaner will make the bike to lose a lot of power at wot and uphill, so do you think is a good idea to reduce my ratio to 40:1 ? I don't wanna seize my engine :O pS: I m using Stihl oil.

@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 6 жыл бұрын
2 Strokes are far superior. Smaller size engine more torque in a 2 stroke. A 4 stroke requires oil changes, and more overall maintenance and weigh more, larger size, and less power. I run a 32:1 fuel/oil mix ratio in my 2 stroke engine...yes it smokes more but it'll last a lot longer with more oil in the fuel to keep things lubricated better.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 6 жыл бұрын
Mine tops out at 25mph, I wouldn't suggest riding that fast though, the vibration is so bad you'll forever be breaking things...mainly motor mounting studs.

Great video. I'll be getting my first 2 cycle engine in next day or two. 1st questions, What type as grade gas is best for the bikes ? 2nd questions, can I use red loc tite for the bolt treads ?
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 8 жыл бұрын
From the other videos I've ran across on these engines they say a 16 to 1 fuel/oil mix. I use premium grade fuel because the station I go to has non-ethanol premium fuel. You can use loc-tite on the bolts, its probably a very good idea, these things have some vibration to them so loc-tite will definitely keep the bolts tight. Don't use red loc-tite, it requires heat to remove, use blue loc-tite.

What if your motorized engine is blowing hot air from the cylinder just asking does it mean that it's slowing down or do I need to torque it down to make it tight just asking thank you
@wildbill23c

You need to torque the cylinder head bolts down. Should be checking all the fasteners every time you ride anyhow these things vibrate really bad and keep an eye on your engine mounting studs too, I've broke 2 of them in less than a year.

2 questions. I plan to ride in the rain. How do i maintain good performance for wet riding and I noticed I may have to remove my front brakes to place a fender. will relying on my standard issue back breaks be enough? ALSO I have an 18 speed bike..do I remove the little mini chain shifter from the rear wheel? Often found on the right side of all +speed bikes.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 6 жыл бұрын
I was told to pull the cover off the magneto and apply some sealant, other than that it should be fine. The standard brakes are fine. The regular shifters on your bike have nothing to do with the speed the bike will go when using the engine.

I'm interested in getting an 80cc (rated) 4 stroke, but on almost all kits and pre-assembled bikes, all I ever see is beach cruisers or variations on other single speed cruisers, I personally have always had trouble with stability riding those kind, especially the faster I go and was wondering is there a mountain bike that I could successfully mount an engine to? I figure that also riding the bike without the engine running would also be a lot easier with the added weight, any ideas ???

Lock a pair of needle nose vice grips on the frame as close to the rear sprocket with the chain off and have the sprocket scrape the tip of the vice grip like a brake rotor lathe so you can see where it walks, Tighten the bolt where it scrapes and repeat. Keep getting the vice grip closer until it is straight all the way around. I had to replace my bolts since the kit ones are doody.

Thanks for the reply, obviously should be fine pulling a little bicycle trailer. I weigh 170lbs, and those little bike trailers don't weight much. Going to use it to carry grocery items so won't be much weight. Have you built a hybrid type bike? Use an electric front hub setup and the gas engine together? Would be quite interesting...expensive but interesting. Wonder if the gas engine would be able to charge the electric hub's battery pack?

From what I have seen any regular cruiser or mountain bike should be fine for easy installation. My build will be difficult as I am using a chopper bike and will have motor mounting issues. Yeah I was told by the groups on Facebook that it's going to be a challenge with the chopper bike an the Fat boy bikes also. I live in a apartment but I have a private patio so I think I'm in good shape. The problem I'm having is I hear alot of builders say that brakes a huge deal. So I found a 29er on Ebay with dics brakes so I think I might go that route. I also what to put mag wheels on to bit from doing some research it's going to be a pricey build. An my plan is to go all white. Frame an wheels.

many run that w/o any issues so you good. Main issue is w/ these is the chrome bore is getting thinner and thinner from manufacturers and that is a big wear issue. I'd suggest that one keeps a backup engine ready and when lightning strikes, you swap out and you're back on the road

why does mine always need choke to start it?
@HughesMotorized
@HughesMotorized 3 жыл бұрын
An engine runs best once warmed up. It needs some extra fuel to get started. The choke "chokes" the amount of air coming in. The reduced air crates a vacuum inside the carb. The vacuum will suck more fuel from the jet giving the engine more fuel.

@@HughesMotorized so its a bit like a diesel engine then, it needs a hot cylinder to ignite. ive always thought it may be running lean because i dont see much smoke from the oil, which i am putting alot in the mix, like 20/1. the clip on the needle is 2nd from the top, of 4 notches on the needle.

surely rubber between engine and frame is ok
@HughesMotorized
@HughesMotorized 3 жыл бұрын
NOPE. Rubber = flex. Flex = broken studs, or chains coming off.

I couldn't believe you used a cresant wrench on the spoke nipples. These motors vibrate BAD mid range & top end. THAT'S WHY i rubberize both motor mounts. It doesn't cure it but it's way better

My mounting hardware snapped off twice now inside the engine block, do yourself a favour and don't use stock mounting hardware buy high tensile steel bolts they won't snap under the constant vibrations of the engine.
@wildbill23c

Do you happen to know the size of those bolts? I'm having the same trouble with snapping off the mounting studs, I've broken 2 of them in this past year.
@urmomsahoe1
@urmomsahoe1 5 жыл бұрын
You have to tighten the front and back bolts evenly to avoid putting tension on any of the bolts. If you tighten the back bolts then the front then your putting tension on the studs that shouldn't be there. Tighten evenly and dont over tighten and it will be fine.

Haha, I didn't bend my engine mount. But I did bend the frame itself 😅 its going nowhere now. Guess its tight enough. Its actually kinda nice, the flattened frame section resists the engines temptation to torque twist on its mounts over time. YOLO.

@@HughesMotorized Haha, its funny you say that. Most of these kits seem like death traps to me, even on a good day. My biggest fear is a catastrophic mechanicical failure in which the rear wheel locks up. Its up to Chinese reliability whether or not thats gonna happen. Its made it thousands of miles now and still going. It earned my trust around 1000 miles in id say. Thanks for the video, helped me with some clutch adjustments.
