Just in case anyone still cares... I live in Ontario and this is exactly how instructors teach you to turn. It 's different in other countries, states, continents, etc.; I'm sure people are aware of that. Just do what you were taught to do, whether that be hand over hand or hand to hand, if you want to pass.

If you live in California, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT listen to this. Your hands are not "supposed" to be at the 2 and 10 o'clock position but anywhere between 2-10 and 3-9 o'clock. If you were crossing your arms over the steering wheel and got hit by a car the air bag could possibly break your arm and send it back into your face. I don't see this being helpful while taking the driving test

The hand over hand technique is absolutely retarded asf. Why can't i drive the way i want to as long as its safe. I feel the majority of people fail because theyre simply telling you how to drive. Instead of how youre comfortable too.
@vani8086 жыл бұрын
Does anyone know if they are strict with this method in Washington state?
@t-rexdabeast77876 жыл бұрын
It is very much advised to use this method when you are taking the behind the wheel driving test, but once you pass you can use any means of method you want. The test is just to make sure one knows how to drive safely. So long story short, you do not need to drive this way unless you are taking the driving test.

Surely not a good one for fast driving around corners while maintaining the most control of the car. Depending on car's lock-to-lock and steering sensivity and track's/road's layout prefered position is 3-9 with thumbs firmly grabing the wheel or 3-9 with thumbs up on the wheel on 2-10 for cars that need more lock during countersteering as thumbs can block if not being placed on the wheel during fast transitions right-left or during countersteering and fast direction changes that need more lock.

If you drove like this in England you would automatically fail your driving test. No cross over of the hands is allowed ever. It is considered dangerous. The method is to keep the hands at 10-2 and you use the "push and pull method" This allows for a much safer control of the steering wheel.
@SiberianSoldier8 жыл бұрын
+Elaine Cree I also used the Push and Pull method in Russia. Hand over hand is just way too confusing, because the guy in the video didn't properly tell how many rotations of the wheel to use, at least for sharper turns.

My instructor says this is incorrect, your hands need to have a equal space between for example, your right hands ends in the 10 clock position well your left hand should be around 2 or 3 clock to equal the distance and always keep the hands on the wheel and make a full revolution turn for non-sharp turns

I cringe every time I see someone using the push pull technique of turning the wheel. In my mind, it is a sign of a beginner driver. I know many people use it who are good drivers, but I can't help it. It just looks so awkward, slow and most importantly not smooth at all. It boggles my mind there are countries that actually require you to use it in driving school. Hand over hand steering is what a proper steering technique looks like. Fast and smooth.
@bintuae17 жыл бұрын

Push Pull is taught because you MUST use that technique to drive a truck or bus. A car licence allows you to drive certain vehicles with a large wheel, so you need to know how to drive push pull.
