Back in high school a friend and I were joking around at lunch and he unexpectedly swept me behind my knee. Throw didn't hurt but anterior ligament, already iffy from football, was badly injured and had to be operated on. He didn't mean to hurt me, had no training, where I already had 7 years boxing experience. He was apologetic and didn't realize what he had done but this does work. Took me by surprise.

How do you accidentally flip someone? Your friend was definitely trying his moves out on you lol I'd be mad as hell
@JohnBarrylizard
@JohnBarrylizard 8 жыл бұрын
Nah... I was being facetious. He's my old dorky friend... too goofy to purposely do anything that malicious. He didn't flip me as much as sucker-trip me on my already injured leg, injuring it worse. He indeed may have been trying out moves but doubt he knew it would have that affect. I wouldn't hurt him but even if I did it'd cost me a plane trip. I'd sooner spend that money on a new guitar or maybe Judo lessons. haha

It's not about weight, it's about balance, the more he is heavy, the more easily he will fall to the ground, you just have to make your technic perfect, and train to be stronger.

The harder Tatami mats are actually more comfortable to land on, as they distribute the weight more easily, and reduce the likelihood of injury. Also, it sounds really cool when thrown on.

When I was young I randoried with a specialist in foot sweeps and I just could not stay on my feet. He was so fast and it was so powerful and he had an uncanny sense of my balance. He said that when my weight shifted from one leg to the other there was occasionally a moment when I was weightless and that is when he would sweep me. I have never known anything like it since. I did not know that 6th dans wore the red and white belt. I saw a couple at the Kodokan whaen I was young worn by 8th dans.

If anyone is wondering the Japanese traditional names for the throw.Di Ashi Bari ( I think that is how you spell it, this throw is actaulley pretty advanced as it requires quite a bit of timing)O soto gari ( pretty much the first throw you learn)I don't quite know what the last one is. I did it for my grading but its rather hard. You have to have a lot of balance and core strength.

It's an older mat, but it works. The worn, old mats get softer and more comfortable, just like shoes. Some places they have rubber tires underneath the wood floor, then mats on top.

The Idea o judo is using the opponent’s weight against themselves. You wanna catch them at the right time. So it very effortless. But takes years of practice. So it can work against someone bigger

It's harder but it can still be done.
@rhidiandavies1991
@rhidiandavies1991 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimmybaldwin737 The idea is more about using maximum efficiency to minimise the force needed, but the fact of the matter is that a smaller person will still need a lot of force to throw a larger person (unless it's more of a foot sweep). The myth in judo is that size and athleticism aren't important, but if that were the case there wouldn't be any weight classes, and world class judoka wouldn't be as athletic as they are. A small person can throw a larger person, but even with years of practice there are some throws that are just not advisable against someone much taller/larger - uchi mata for example.

Good luck pulling these off on a really big bastard too. All these techniques require that you can get your opponent moving and off balance.
