You should also cover the surrounding areas in plastic so you don't get over spray and back mask as well

Man! You Americans are so lucky to have better body filler found in your automotive stores. Here in Mexico, all the good stuff is expensive, where as all the cheap crap is inexpensive. This cheap filler I have, gets so many pinholes and mixed spots. Damn this shit is annoying, doesn't even touch 3M quality.

rust in that area often from rock chips so originating on the outside, not on the inside like a fender or rocker panel.
@testvideo6614
@testvideo6614 7 жыл бұрын
Believe me, rust is more on the back or underside, that is my experience while rock chip is different which you may cover right away. I am talking about weather and moisture, rain and snow is the main thing here in north america. thanks and sorry for being so late.

Derdian. Well we should not foreget that its a temporary solution for the problem and rust is like a cancer. Even if it last for couple of years to cover the holes, it is worth.

I have a 2007 chevy avalanche and would like to have the cladding painted. A friend told me that i could use a light weight bondo to rub over the textured plastic then sand it smooth. Do you have any recomendations on how to do this? do you sell the products to do something like this? Thank you

Fixing that kind of rust, stuff that comes from behind and has penetrated the exterior sheet metal, will not last ...AT ALL using this method. The rust will come from the back side again within months.... TOPS and start to blister under the putty and paint. Just FYI..

In the video you said to polish the metal, remove all sanding scratches, does the metal need to be smooth in order to use bondo, I recently repaired some rust above my rear wheel well, after sanding, priming and painting, bubbles started to form on the bondo, most were small with one larger bubble, this happened to me twice now, any ideas what I did wrong ?
@testvideo6614
@testvideo6614 10 жыл бұрын
Did i said polish the metal then i am wrong. I remember i said we should go to shining metal and the reason is that if there is any rust leftover then it will expand underneath and will push bondo or any other material. Now about the bubbles expert says that there is no single reason we can conclude but my opinion is that it depends on the temperature you worked on your car and degree of moisture left in the bondo. It may depend on the quality of body filler as well. Good luck

How much does it cost. I used this video to repair a rust spot on my car and I'm well over a hundred in, and it looks like caca. Should've just taken it to the shop. Anytime you do something for the first time you'll make mistakes. My bondo looked smooth as hell until I applied the paint, then I saw how crappy it actually was. Never again.

You see lots of people use bondo light which is cheaper and in that case yes it may bubble or show again but doing a proper job and putting quality of material which is expensive, you can get professional results. Again its up to you that how much effort and money you want to put on.

You didn't do anything about the pits? Was the clear coat you used one of those two part "clearcoats in a can"? Don't you need some kind of a clear coat blending agent to get the new coat to stick to the old?

The ONLY way paint will adhere to that hood, or any painted surface, is through mechanical adhesion. To do a job like this correctly, you'ld scuff the area around the repair with an equivalent to 600 - 800 grit sandpaper. Watch some other videos on here & you'll see what I mean. Don't do any of the stuff in this video!

Complete waste of time. You never use polyester body filler (Bondo) to repair rust! This section should be cut out and a patch welded in. Then after grinding the welds flush you would coat with fiberglass filler then Bondo to smooth the surface. Bondo is like a sponge and never used like this video shows. If you treated the bare steel with phosphoric acid conversion coating then used WATERPROOF fiberglass filler it would last a while.
@testvideo6614
@testvideo6614 10 жыл бұрын
Bondo had few different types of filler so you choose the one which suits your area of work. yes fiberglass is better.
