Sir, could you, please, also share how to prepare a presentation for a research paper rich in complex mathematics? If we include complex mathematical equations in the presentation slides, the audience is expected to lose interest in the presentation. If important equations are not included in the presentation slides then important details may be left unadressed and unexplained.

@theseal1264 жыл бұрын
I havent done research myself but i believe keeping a record of your ideas and proofs is extreemly important. We forget much more than we think. Mathematical papers are usually written in latex (special writing program where u can write mathematical symbols, takes a while to learn but definitely worth learning). Keeping record in latex is pretty good (i cant use pen and paper since i justend up losing them and they're un organized). Latex is for free so ye (there's a website for where u can write in. just sign up with ur gmail for free, search latex in google and u'll find it). Dont try to learn it just to learn it, preferably u shud do a project and keep record of your work and you write what u come up with in latex. Then u search up how to do what u need to know to implement certain symbols. Reading alot of papers on what's been done is important but that's very hard if you cant understand the symbols they use (their are different symbols for every subject so ye pretty hard to read papers but that's for the future.) Put this in the latex document (it's called packages and the structure of the text. let's u use certain symbols and organize the document with title and name and so on): %Comments do not appear in the document %Everything before \begin{document} is preamble so won't appear either. %Here we state which LaTeX packages we want to activate in the file which aren't the default. %Some packages like most of the ones below are automatically downloaded with LaTeX. %Others need to be downloaded separately e.g. from here ctan.org/ %There is a lot of literature online about which packages you may need to do what you want and how to use them e.g. LaTeX Stack Exchange. \documentclass[11pt, a4paper, draft]{article} \usepackage{fullpage} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{amsthm} \usepackage{mathtools} \usepackage{latexsym} \usepackage{natbib} \usepackage{indentfirst} \usepackage{etoolbox} \usepackage{accents} \usepackage{enumitem} \usepackage{array} \usepackage{titlesec} %Can specify the length of paragraph indents: \setlength{\parindent}{1em} %Here we make our own commands: ewcommand{\ud}{\mathrm{d}} ewcommand{\uD}{\mathrm{D}} ewcommand{\ue}{\mathrm{e}} ewcommand{\ui}{\mathrm{i}} %Here we can make our own format for theorems, lemmas etc: ewtheoremstyle{italic}{10pt}{0pt}{\itshape}{}{\bfseries}{.}{0.5em}{} \theoremstyle{italic} %All of the following have our italic style. ewtheorem{lemma}{Lemma}[section] ewtheorem{prop}[lemma]{Proposition} ewtheorem{cor}[lemma]{Corollary} ewtheorem{claim}[lemma]{Conjecture} ewtheorem{theorem}[lemma]{Theorem} \theoremstyle{definition} %All of the following have the default definition style. ewtheorem*{definition}{Definition} ewtheorem*{notation}{Notation} ewtheorem*{remark}{Remark} %remark without numbers ewtheorem{Remark}[lemma]{Remark} %remark with numbers ewtheorem*{example}{Example} ewtheorem{Example}[lemma]{Example} %Delete this to number equations (1), (2), (3), ... instead of (1.1), (1.2), (1.3), ..., (2.1), ... etc. umberwithin{equation}{section} %How far do you want sections, subsections to be numbered? \setcounter{secnumdepth}{3} %What do we want included in the table of contents (if we want one)? Here are some: $\times$, $\cdot$, $\dots$, $\cdots$, $\equiv$, $\approx$, $\sim$, $\propto$, $ ightarrow$, $\Rightarrow$, $\mapsto$, etc. Greek letters: $\alpha,\beta,\gamma,\Gamma$ etc. \\ Some functions/operations have their own commands: e.g. $\sin x$, $\cos x$, $\exp x$, $\exp(x^2+y^2)$, etc. Others you must write yourself, e.g. $\text{csc}\,x$.\\ %Writing \, inserts a small space in maths mode Here we use some of our own commands from the preamble: $\ud x$, $\ue^{\ui x}\equiv\cos x+\ui\sin x$.\\ Fractions: $\frac{1}{2}$, $\frac{\ud y}{\ud x}$.\\ Mathematical text styles: $\mathbb{Z}$, $\mathbb{R}$, $\mathbf{x}$, $\mathbf{A}$, $\mathbb{RP}^2$, etc. Doesn't work for symbols, Greek letters etc. Use: $\boldsymbol{\alpha}$, etc. \subsection{Equations} Display style for equations. %Equation environment Equation with a number: \begin{equation} -\frac{\ud^2\psi}{\ud^2x}=\lambda\psi \end{equation} Equation without a number: %Use * to remove numbers. Numbering is automatic. Can do the same for sections: \subsection{Subsection for the purpose of adding a reference} \label{another} Refer to Section ef{another}. %Run file twice for references to display. Hi, Sir! Can you please comment on this idea: Math research now is so hyperfocused that only at most 5 people can understand what you are doing. Instead of looking at math as a whole (e.g., looking for huge connections between seemingly disparate ideas, solving an intractable problem in subfield A by using a tool from subfield B), we are producing results for the sake of producing results (usually so that we don't get fired by our employer). Math now is so filled with minor results that nobody cares about them aside from the publisher and his/her adviser. Thanks!
@PrzemekChojeckiAI3 жыл бұрын
hi, mostly it's true, 95% of maths is like that, but then there are also huge conjectures people are working on, and ideas bridging various fields. But you can't have this 5% without the minor results being published.
