Lamont can't do any of the accents he's confusing north shore south shore city country etc it's so good. And he's from Dorchester. The coach is actually teaching him a straight up fields corner accent.unique. I actually new a "statie" (state police trooper) who was black and had this accent for real. Killed me. 😂 black people are blessed in Boston because no matter how poor etc they are or disadvantaged they make the massholes look stupid. It's an Irish thing...no one talks about that do they.

Pius X Kennedy’s was slightly more “upper class” and derivative of the English accent (as that was the source of most Boston accents back then). It has evolved over time to be something very different today. So I theory yes, but that accent is dated today.

Kelly Ann, Brookline is not technically within the city limits but Boston’s City limits are small because it’s so old. Brookline is for all intents and purposes very much Boston. Secondly, the Boston accent has not evolved much at all since the 1950’s other than profanity is more common place now and some of these people in these videos are over enunciating the accent. Neighborhoods surrounding the city often possess slightly varying characteristics that set each apart. Finally, the accent is seldom heard downtown other than from municipal workers, police, etc. This is because downtown Boston has become incredibly transient. The locals with roots live in places like Brookline where the accents are rich.

@@Sahbomnim You couldve just said Chelsea bro lol. Anyway, Chelsea isn't Boston and your original comment implies you lived in Boston so I naturally asked what part. You're basically out by Eastie....although beyond it of course. Places like Southie/Charlestown, Eastie, West Roxbury etc are significantly more influenced by the White Irish demo and as such you find ppl who speak with their non-rhotic pattern. MOST of the black ppl actually IN Boston historically haven't lived in those places and so we don't talk like that. When you understand how ethnocentric and prideful Black ppl are from the Carribean/Africa/South then it makes complete sense why they wouldn't want to assimilate to the speech patterns of White Irish ppl.....it just is what it is 🤷🏿‍♂️. If it's in you, celebrate it I guess, but understand that it is NOT in most of "us".
@Sahbomnim
@Sahbomnim 2 жыл бұрын
@@jayo208 I could have. But, in MY experience, most people from Roxbury/Dorchester/Mattapan, have never heard of it. That's why I explained it the way I did. I'm well aware that Chesea is not Boston. However, you can practically throw a rock from it, into downtown Boston. Also, my comment didn't "imply' that I was from Boston. You 'assumed' it. Big difference. But, if I'm being honest, I think you're going way off course, where accents are concerned. What, exactly, are people from the Caribbean (Correct spelling, BTW), Africa, and the south prideful of? And, how is it even remotely relevant where regional accents of the United States (specifically Boston) are concerned? Also also, if you think black people in Roxbury don't speak with non-rhoticity, then I invite you to listen to the song Iesha, by Another Bad Creation. Specifically, at the 1:35 mark. And, when you're finished with that, KZbin Donnie Simpson's interview with New Edition, way back in 1984. Listen to Ralph Tresvant, when he speaks. There's no mistaking that accent. Also, listen to New Edition's first manager, Brooke Payne. His Boston accent was thick as hell. So, I mean, I'm not really sure what you're even on about. If you don't have a Boston accent, cool. "White Irish"? That's hilarious! 🤣

Again, you're by Eastie....don't care how many stones you can throw into our city....YOU'RE BY EASTIE lol. You grew up around white ppl (which is cool) and reflect that through and through with your aloof/ignorant comments 🤦🏿‍♂️. The bottom line is, WE DON'T TALK LIKE YOU SIR lol.....period. I went on your channel and played one vid and IMMEDIATELY knew everything I assumed was true 😂🤣😂.....you're one of "those" black dudes 😭😭😭😭.You literally talk like a White Irish guy 🤦🏿‍♂️😂😂😭😭😭😭😭😭. And for the record, I didn't assume you lived in Boston goofy, you literally implied it when you stated "my Boston accent" 🤦🏿‍♂️. How the hell could you have something of a place you aren't from and don't live in?? Knock it off "smart" guy lol. Stop hitting the weights so much & pick up a book lol. But so we're clear.... us Carribean/African ppl are prideful of our CULTURE & HERITAGE! That means that when our parents immigrate to this country we tend to live amongst each other and are intentional about NOT losing our traditions, customs, and language evidenced in EVERY city in America where large populations of Carribean/African ppl are 👀. So what that means is in our households we are intentional about NOT assimilating to the WHITE ppl around us.....so in Boston that means NOT talking like White Irish ppl.....amongst other things. Our native languages and accents literally PRECLUDE us from speaking like White Irish ppl, GOOFY lol. That is so simple to understand a child could grasp it. THAT is why it's relevant, goofy lol. You're clearly clueless about this and so you are all up and through these comments spewing NONSENSE about a place you don't live in and aren't even from 🤦🏿‍♂️......ignorance at its finest lol. Now here is where I hit the mute button on you bro & forget you even exist lol. I refuse to see another notification/message from you, lil karate guy 😂🤣😂😭😭😭😭🙋🏿‍♂️😉🤫✌🏿😒

Key changes in a Boston accent compared to most American accents Non-rhoticity (r-dropping ) .the Boston accent is non-rhotic, which means the "r" doesn't get pronounced after vowel sounds or rarely gets pronounced after vowel sounds. There's othuh non-rhotic American accents as well, like some suthin (southern) accents, many versions of the New Yawk (New York) City dialect and some ethnic dialects such as many varieties of AAVE and Cajun English, but the Boston accent is the most iconic non-rhotic US accent. Also, many Bostonians like to add phantom ' Rs ' where they don't belong, examples include ' drawring ' for ' drawing ' Africrand Asia ' for Africa and Asia (heck John F Kennedy said ' Cuberand Florida ' instead of ' Cuba and Florida ') The main vowel change in Boston English is the broad "a" and short "o" sounds, which are pronounced basically the same as most Americans pronounce a in words like ' can't ' ' bag ' and ' lack ' (ea).

@@edwardmiessner6502 There's two types of a RI accent. The one influenced by Italian immigrants that sounds like a mix of Boston and New York, and then the accent that the majority have that is pretty identical to the Boston accent. Peter Griffin has the second one. That's why Ted and Peter Griffin sound exactly the same. RI is just mini Massachusetts.

So does a New Hampshire accent sound more like Boston or NewYork accent?
@ep3578
@ep3578 3 жыл бұрын
Much more like a boston accent. However, many parts on MA don’t have and EXACT boston accent. People from the greater boston area have a slightly different boston accent than from someone from boston, malden, somerville, revere. It’s also generational, many of my family members have a strong accent while mine is not as noticeable. You go to nashua or salem and they have an accent although not nearly as much

I attended a baby shower with some women in Cambridge. They agreed that one name they wouldn't name a son is "Martin" because it always sounds like 'Mahtin' in a Boston accent.' (I was born and raised in Boston and now live in Rhode Island. Those accents are not that different from Boston's.)
