water penetrates easier and quicker than oil because it has smaller molecules. have high porosity hair and it has really shown it's true colors after being 4 months post relaxer. still trying to find the best way to retain moisture through this phase. My hair started to reject my old regimen at 3 months post and I didn't start researching and finding out I've been mistreating my hair for years til then. I got a long road ahead of me and I'm optimistic it will be a fun one.

Water :) it is the best moisturizer for your hair bc the small molecules are able to penetrate the hair on a deeper level. Oil is a sealant but there are few oils that have the ability to penetrate your strands like the amazing coconut oil!

Water. I believe for a few reasons. This is without googling it. I think it is because our bodies are primarily made of water. Oil, depending on type, has a tendency to sit on the strands unless the cuticles are open to receive. Water, especially if used while warm, or in steam form, can penetrate the strands easier. I hope I win. Michelle Brazil

If you want to go to Heaven you can’t cuss or swear or let people persuade you to believe it’s ok to do because it’s not. We can’t claim to be Christian but blasphemy his name and say it in vain. Through 7 years of trial and error, I do a LCOC method with adjustments. My L - liquid is water, the first C is cream that I dilute so that it's "runny" or very liquid(y), my O is always a penetrative oil (for me that's sunflower oil) and my final stage C is a heavy butter, cream or wax but only on my ends. Before I add the last stage I lightly coat my ends with aloe vera then add the butter, cream or wax on the ends and roll it around my finger until it curls. The first part of my routine, the LCO; the ingredients are always heated (warmed). This is the only method that works for my low-medium porosity 4C hair. I am able to retain moisture longer. I also spritz with only water every 3 days or longer if I notice any signs of possible drying. Thanks for sharing your video!

LT Cartwright thx for sharing your method... is your C a leave in conditioner or other cream? I'm a bit confused as when to use a leave in conditioner... some say as your L some say C in the LCO method... my hair is low porosity too so should i just be using water or aloe Vera juice as L... or can i use a liquidy spritz type leave in conditioner rather than cream based leave in as L or C? pls help clarify the LCO process. thx
@ltcartwright1976
@ltcartwright1976 7 жыл бұрын
janet benjamn - the L is the liquid, usually my hair is already damp from my wash so I put in a very watered down leave in or a liquid leave in (like Fantasia IC) or I go straight to the O step. Some people use aloe vera juice but aloe doesn't work for me. The O oil for me I use sunflower oil but you can use whatever works for you. My C is either a heavy leave in conditioner or a shea butter mix that I add a lot of oil to. Straight shea butter coats my hair and weigh it down but adding lots of oil makes the shea butter mix more useful for me. I wax the ends of my hair (in twists) with beeswax and that's my process after a deep conditioning or protein treatment. This keeps my hair moisturize up to 2 days and I only have to lightly spritz with water and retwist. Now after day 2-3 I use the very liquid based leave in and some of the oily shea butter mix or just some of the sunflower oil and retwist in chunky twists or braids. It depends on how my hair feels that determines if I go into all of the LOC steps - sometimes you CAN skip a step based on how your hair feels (dry and crunchy or soft and manageable). It takes a bit of a learning curve what your hair responds to but keep a log after every routine and this helps you pinpoint your "good" and "bad" hair days. It also helps narrow down which products work and which ones you have to tweak to work. But don't get stuck on using a product if your hair doesn't like it. You can find alternatives that do work. Good luck😊

LT Cartwright ok got it... thx for explaining the process and the tips...i use a shea butter mix too and it works well on my hair... what watery leave in conditioner do you use?
@ltcartwright1976
@ltcartwright1976 7 жыл бұрын
I take a cream based leave in like "cream of nature ultra moisturizing leave in conditioner mango & shea butter (or whatever scent you like best) put some in a squeeze bottle and add enough water to make it very very loose or I use Fantasia IC extra dry liquid leave in just by itself since it is watery and not a cream leave in. Or just take your favorite heavy creamy leave in and dilute it with water and/or aloe juice if your hair likes aloe until the consistency is watery. You may make is as diluted as you feel your hair responds to best. This watery leave in is also the mix I will use to do my moisturizing in between wash days. I boost my leave in conditioners by adding extra oils that my hair likes and use that mix to remoisturize my chunky twists throughout my protective styling. Since I put more oils in there I essentially combine the L and O steps then I only seal the twists with the shea butter mix and this keeps me good until my next wash day. Journal everything and you will begin to get a solid hair routine that isn't as complicated as it sometimes seem. Once you see what your hair responds to just continue to repeat it. Like I mentioned my hair stays so soft and moisturize that I really don't have to do the whole LOC method from scratch. I get away with only spritzing my hair with plain water with some tea tree oil and I'm good until I feel like my hair could use more conditioning. Happy hair journey😊

I will say WATER just because the structure of the molecule is tiny enough to enter the culticles of our hair strands. PLus water is actually the only great moisturizer our hair need. All the other things(oil & creams) we just add to keep in the moisture longer.

This is really was informative breakdown. As a natural with (very) low porosity hair, I’ve found that my hair just hates products in general. It does just so so with liquid and a light cream or LC. But oils just make my hair greasy no matter how light they are, and butters don’t do much but coat it and make it ashy. The very best thing for my particular head of low porosity hair is just my sebum. Wash my hair with water, and preening the sebum. Ive been doing this almost 2 years to the date now. My hair is the strongest, most supple, and most manageable it’s ever been. I got started with the water only method with tips and suggestions with Green Beauty actually. My hair has grown thick to the ends from BSL to hip length since I started WO almost 2 years ago. And I give myself regular, light trims every 2-3 months.

Hi! I recently did a big chop and cut off the relaxed parts of my hair. When my hair was relaxed, I would always grease my scalp after washing. Now, being natural, I used oil on my scalp. Is this a good idea? If not, what should I do to keep my scalp moisturized. It gets dry very quickly
@GreenBeauty
@GreenBeauty 7 жыл бұрын
You can continue to oil your scalp. The most important things to keep in mind about oiling your scalp is (1) accompany it with a good scalp massage (2)use a lighter oil like argan oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba. You can use a thicker oil, just make sure you use less of it (3) Use a little bit (literally two dime sizes) at a time and build it up, rather than using a lot at one time.

Water penetrates the hair easier because it has smaller molecules. I alway love your videos they are so informative! I recommend your channel to everyone! The one about nappy hair is great for children with kinky hair, helps them to feel better about their hair

Please excuse my ignorance as I am completely new to this terminology and methodology. But I don't understand using the same types of products in different orders what difference does it make and which method is better for what type of porosity hair?

Some people feel like when they use a liquid followed by a cream and then an oil on top of that. That the moisture (water) soaked from the liquid and the cream will be sealed in (last) longer b/c of the top oil layer. Some switch the oil and cream steps and some just do liquid > oil or Liquid > cream. What works best for you has a lot to do with your hair's porosity but, it's not the only factor so, try them out to determine which method works best for you (L.C.O, L.O.C, L.C or L.O).

GreenBeauty ugh trying to grow long natural healthy hair is so much time & work, it doesn't seem to coincide with my lifestyle. It's so disheartening that my goals maybe unrealistic. But thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me. You do an excellent job with the videos.

Water penetrates more easily bc water molecules are smaller making them easier to penetrate into the hair.
