Thank you! I'm in the process of training to pass a physical test for a job I've been dreaming of since I was younger and have been looking for a good way to increase tricep strength at home to make pushups a little easier. Now I know how to do it while also staying in good form!

form is very important.alot of people want to look all tough doing heavy weight but form always comes first.as you get stronger with more experience you will eventually be able to control that heavy weight anyway.

You need to exhale on exertion (against the resistance) as she instructed. This aids in core engagement and force-production during the contraction. I'd be curious to see the websites you mention that are suggesting to reverse the breathing.

Would the rope's ability to separate be an advantage to the bar, in working the tri's? I used the bars myself, and I'm considering swapping to the ropes. Any pros or cons to either? Thanks!

Why are guys I'm not saying all have to be so sexist about girl lifting weights and being able to do a properly formed exercise I don't get it women have the right to look good and to be fit. I understand some other guys love girls that lift but for some reason others just get offended by girls being muscular. Now common its 2014 a women has the right do what she wants with her body.

You're bringing the bar, back up too high. The forearms should just be slightly higher than horizontal with the floor, this keeps the tension on for maximum benefit!

Aren't you not suppose to let your arms go up that high? Though it should go higher than the bottom of your chest? Must Tuts I see stress about keeping the bad under your chest.

Keeping it at a certain height changes the level of tension in the exercise. Both are still effective!

I can't "squeeze" my tricepts because I don't have any! It is so difficult to get them activated. My abs and biceps end up doing all the work. And they get tired before I can feel it in my triceps:(
@eizhowa7 жыл бұрын
+Luke Brown I might as well focus on my unicorn-muscle. The tricep muscle just isn't there (and I am using a hyperbole here. Obviously I understand that I have one, but it is so tiny it can't do anything).
@powerpopaholic8767 жыл бұрын
Look at wikipedia / google the anatomy of this muscle. The only way to extend your arm (non-passively) is for the tricep to shorten. If your hand is closer to your sholder and you make you hand go further away from the shoulder (not using gravity, obviously), then the triceps DID make that happen. If you can do more than 15 reps, it's harder to build strength and muscle. Working out the tricep until it has a harder time pushing the weight, or if it becomes very hard to make the cable move...then you're wearing it out. Give it 2 days recovery time, go again. It WILL become stronger. This is an isolation exercise - ONLY the tricep is contracting, so it is doing the work. if ANYTHING else is moving - i.e. torso swaying forward, etc, then those muscles are providing momentum. You don't actually HAVE to think about anything. If you simply do the exercise properly, and you eat enough protein..you WILL gain a bigger tricep. Remember, weight is important. If you want strength, do 6-10 reps. If it's possible to do more...then just add more weight and try again. keep adding until you can only do 6-15. I think a weight that you can only 6 of is risky - risk of bad form, etc. I like 8, but 12-15 is fine. More is good too, but you will gain less strength, probably, but more endurance (fwiw). Both are important, but if you want strength, once again, add weight untill you can only go so long. All these bodybuilders like warm up sets, so those are good idea, I'm sure. resting between sets is important. I do my rest by just doing a different muscle (it's called a superset). In my experience, 1 set is ok, but gains are slow. 2 sets is good - you will gain muscle. 3 sets is amazing- you will DEFINITELY gain noticeable muscle (it takes up to a a week to feel a change, more in a month, visuals may take longer - i.e. losing body fat, more muscle, etc needed for that)> 3 sets is also risky - I've had injuries, little ones, but they did sideline a muscle group, so I suggest starting with 2 sets , you'll gain muscle and strength and feel tighter.
@powerpopaholic8767 жыл бұрын
One more tip...the tri-ceps are call that because it's actually like one muscle on one end (on the other side of the elbow), that splits into three muscles, that attache at three different points on/near the shoulder. To make sure you (somewhat) wear out all three, do the exercise in the video at three angles: - flat bar (like in the video) - 45 degree angle (thumb closer to ceiling). i.e. v-bar or the wiggly cable called the ezbar - 90 degrees (like a handshake - thumb is closest to ceiling, pinky closest to floor).

That's known as doing sets till failure... if you're trying to increase muscle mass a little grunting is natural. Also helps release testosterone and beat PRs. If you're a filthy casual and don't care about strength training then I can see how it would be annoying. Kappa
