Another brilliant video. I have done this already with a Nikkor 70-300mm VR with 3 extension tubes, which made the lens kind of a macro lens while still far enough from the water. I didn't use water colours. I just played with the WB temperature and tint sliders and it gave pretty nice images.

superb video got a quick question for you - is it acceptable to use the cameras onboard flash ? as being a landscape photographer never had cause to ever use one
@Firstmanphotography9 жыл бұрын
It will work firstly. Treat it as a portrait of a waterdrop though. The light is much more flattering coming in from an angle. You can get a stretchy cable pretty cheap if you don't want to use the remotes.

What is the position of the camera. Is it in level with water level or slightly higher than water level
@Firstmanphotography8 жыл бұрын
+Arungoyal67 Hi thanks for your question. I vary my composition between different shoots. Generally though, my favourite shots are when I get the camera as close to the water level as possible. To achieve this you need to make sure you fill the water bath to the brim to avoid seeing the bowl in your image. Hope that helps.

How come you were shooting at f/11 and your image wasn’t completely black because I am trying to recreate the same thing and I have two soft box lights and a smaller daylight bulb. I’m not using flash as I don’t have any but I’m trying to shoot at 1/800th + and f/5 + so that it’s as crisp as possible but the image is really really dark so even when I’m in Lightroom I can’t really recover the shadows because it introduces so much grain and ruins the image. Have you got any advice?
@coz21123 жыл бұрын
You absolutely have to use a flash. If he wasn't using a flash, his image would be completely black. But that's the way it works. You want it black. You need all the light to come from the flash. If there is ambient light, it will ruin the shot. The way you're trying to do it simply will not work. You'll have to buy a flash. You can get a Neewer TT560 on Amazon for $37.99. You'll need a way to trigger it off camera. If your camera has a pop up flash, you can set the speed light to "slave" and your camera flash going off will trigger the speed light. Or you can buy a set of Yongnuo triggers on Amazon for $40.
@tomwhyte3 жыл бұрын
@@coz2112 thanks for your reply I’ll definitely be looking at getting some flashes in the future but I actually managed to successfully get some quite nice shots. It could of definitely been better but they still came out quite nicely

Hi. I am getting a SplashArt 2 dropper system, as I'm interested in getting into Water Drop Photography. I shoot Canon, with a cropped sensor. Could you please give me some tips on whether a 60mm or 90mm Tamron macro lens would be better suited for this? Since I haven't done this before, I don't know how far the lens would typically be from the droplets to fill the frame, and I don't want to have the lens getting wet from the splashes.

Great informal video. I tried it once in using the kitchen sink and a dripping tap as the water source. I see that technology has really helped to evolve this great technique.

Would more powerful strobe light better than speedlites ?
@Firstmanphotography5 жыл бұрын
It's the flash that freezes the waterdrop rather than the shutter speed. A low power flash produces a quicker flash burst which is what is needed. Powerful constant light with a quick shutter speed would work also though.

@sehzabintabassum80668 жыл бұрын
may I ask what camera settings did you use? btw the pictures look great though
@Firstmanphotography8 жыл бұрын
+Rosie Hussain It depends on how much light you are adding and the colour of liquids and backgrounds etc but it will usually be something like ISO 400, Aperture of f/11 and the shutter speed of 1/200. It is the flash that freezes the image rather than the shutter speed. Low flash powers produce a faster flash so 1/32 or 1/64 flash power will work well. I'm always operating in manual mode with manual focus in this case. Are you giving it a go?
@sehzabintabassum80668 жыл бұрын
+First Man Photography Thank you ever so much for getting back to me, and thank you for answering my questions, and yes I am currently doing A-level photography and water drop photography really caught my eyes. But thank you.
@Firstmanphotography8 жыл бұрын
+Rosie Hussain You will certainly still be able to get some results with the kit lens. You can focus in pretty close with that lens anyway and you could crop a bit too. Not ideal but it will work.
