Hi Melinda!! The V-shape is usually and indicator of hormonal imbalance in female guinea pigs. They can also start loosing hair along the sides. Mites will be everywhere and there is no particular pattern of sorts 🌻
@equestrianrosie4 жыл бұрын
@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue All 5 of our adopted piggies (males and females) developed the V-shaped hair loss from excessive grooming due to itchiness from mites. The V represents the furthest they can reach when grooming in this case. I even have video of all the girls chewing on their backs at the same time. I am bedridden and have a great view of my piggies during all waking hours and observed their behavior. 2 weeks treatment of Ivermectin and the hair started growing back. Now they all have flawless beautiful coats again. I'm sure it can also be hormonal imbalance, but was definitely not the case with our pigs.

please don't give your guinea pig a bath that can dry out their skin
@ITIsFunnyDamnIT4 жыл бұрын
@@passport.junkiee Guinea pigs sometimes need a bath at least 3 to 4 times a year. If they get ringworm you'll want to use an antifungal shampoo like Miconozal shampoo to treat the ringworm. She only bathes them when necessary and not just something she does for fun or for grooming. She gives them baths when they need it which isn't often but sometimes a guinea pig really does need a bath. I just bathed mine yesterday to treat ringworm using an antifungal shampoo and already my pig is not doing all that scratching, he's doing much better today already. Sometimes baths are necessary. I know there is a LOT of debate on baths, people mistakenly think guinea pigs are totally self cleaning like a cat, which is not totally true, they unlike cats they can't clean their entire body and they do need a bath if they get a fungal infection like ringworm. After bathing you take a hair dryer and dry then down real good keeping the blow dryer at a safe distance as to not burn them but get them all nice and dry so they don't catch a cold. I have been watching her channel now for about 7 or 8 months, and her advice has helped me help my guinea pigs a lot. There is a LOT of misinformation out there. I did some research before a came to this channel than I looked up reviews on Saskia but just seeing what she does and listening to her, I already had no doubts she definitely has experience and seemed to certainly know what's she's talking about. I am glad I have followed her advice as it has helped me out greatly

To the people that decided to correct you for bathing your guinea pigs, let me correct them! Guinea pigs DO need baths, just not often. Basically they need one whenever they are dirty. That will be the time when you clean their grease gland as well. A general rule of thumb is 3 to 4 baths a year.

Hello Saskia! I just wanted to thank you for your hard work and that you share your knowledge here. I bought three piggies from a pet store a month ago, and unfortunately one of them died 3 days ago, because they didn't tell us that even sneezing can be very alarming. Also, he was a male, even tho was supposed to be female, so we don't know if he didn't get our girls pregnant (If anyone is reading this, don't go to pet stores. They just want to make money, they don't care even tho they seem nice. At least in Poland. We learned the hard way). Anyway, I was looking for wise people on yt that I can watch and learn how to take care of my children and I am so happy that I have found you. I hope that thanks to your videos my piggies will live long and happy lives and something like that will never happen again. Thank you so much 🧡
@anh78074 жыл бұрын
Pet stores are the worst. We bought a girl a little over a year ago and I am pretty sure she has mites and possibly fungus. She's been itching increasingly la lot and sneezes sometimes too. I checked her fur and I see small black dots. Luckily, Saskia just made these videos so I can help my pig. I just spent over $120 for an emergency vet visit and they said nothing about any of this. I would take her back but am going to try the video suggestions first. The pet stores don't care, they don't clip the nails or even hold them ever; this was something one of the workers admitted when I asked.
@martanem72524 жыл бұрын
@@anh7807 So I guess it's not only in Poland. Very sad. I want to scream at every single person that made them like that. Anyway, my piggies also have fungus, but I have found a vet that specialises in guinea pigs so they're finally recovering. Still, Saskia's videos helped me a lot and still do. I hope your piggie will be alright soon :)

Same. I had to watch some of her videos a bunch of times before I felt comfortable enough but when I finally did it, like nail trimming for example. I realized I could do it, and than boar cleaning, another thing I didn't think I could do, but I kept watching her and Scotty's Animals and realized I can do that too. Than I was worried about bathing, but after watching enough times and listening to them say just do it, and I did, and now it gets easier each time. I feel proud to say I can do a lot of these things. The only thing I'm NOT comfortable doing yet and probably will take to the vet for is I got a baby pig now and he is so hyper and skittish, I'm too afraid to trim his claws or anything way too small squirmy and skittish. so I will take the baby to the vet for that, but my adult boar, no problem, all thanks to Saskia and Scotty.🐹🐹💯💖💖
