Watching ALL of these videos before I even purchase my two guinea pigs, I want them to live like queens,. Ima be getting timothy hay, roman lettuce, cucumbers, and celery to start them off and build them a large 5 x 3 x 3 ft habitat filled with spaces to crawl under and climb. I honestly want them to have the best lifestyle with healthy food and exercise.

I was so worried about digestive upset the other day, I had just read about BLOAT, that I did the research and cross referenced gas reducing foods with piggie safe foods. Then went to the store today and bought small amounts of the herbs that matched my criteria. Good thing my birds like this stuff too!

Thanks for that lovely and useful video Sarah. I am also that mad girl you see cutting her lawn with a pair of scissors at the moment!! My piggies are enjoying a dish of 'takeaway' grass brought to them indoors at the moment in preparation for when it's warm enough for to go out for some daily playtime in the garden. Personally, I think the recommended daily portion size on the back of the Burgess Excel bag is really quite a lot-I guess they want us all to buy and feed lots of their piggy nuggets to our guinea pigs of course!! An eighth of a cup per piggy per day is what I give mine-I think if I gave them as much as it says on the packet they'd all be enormous and we'd get through a pack of nuggets in no time at all! :-) xx

Brilliant video as too many people don't fully or properly understand the diet requirements of piggies. Have to say the favourite food of my three adoptees is fresh grass, so I go and forage for fresh grass everyday with my scissors and plastic bag, whatever the weather. My garden doesn't grow enough grass. Just careful to not get any by the side of roads, or areas that a lot of dogs frequent. Bizarrely mine are not great foodies so I also mix up 4-5 different hay varieties.

Currently in the process of changing over my piggies to Oxbow pellets from Little Friends pellets since I noticed quite cloudy pee and a very obvious white spot wherever they peed (they're both adults). The old pellets were alfalfa based so I'm changing them over to a timothy pellet (slowly obviously). The veggies I feed commonly are also high calcium ones like basil and celery so they're definetly still going to get their calcium in

Ya deserve a humanity award for this video!! Is it true that Guinea Pigs, need a pile of hay the size of their body...everyday?? The cost can really add-up. I've tried (two skinny pigs), giving'em Timothy Hay bricks, to chew-on. They won't touch-it. They just like the big bag of Timothy & go crazy when about to be fed Romaine lettuce. Letting the pair in the backyard a hour or two per day, they love munching on the grass. Parsley, strawberry, carrot, blackberries are a favorite. They need(humans too), lots of Vitamin C. Cucumber, squash, and watermelon, is a once-a-week treat, as I've learned too much fruits with high water content, give my two guys upset stomach. And my GF, spends more time cuddling them than me. I am jealous. Awesome Video!! And your background habitat, is gorgeous.

Really interesting! I just got my first guinea pigs (rescues from a sad situation) and my vet actually advises no veggies at all (not to mention no fruit) since it’s so easy to get them out of balance and their digestion is meant for being a fibervore. I definitely feel they aren’t bonding as well with me as they had been before their checkup (they weren’t very tame or socialized), since I can’t give them veggie treats anymore 😭 Maybe fresh grass will be their new treats since it’s just hay that’s not dried yet!
@saturnthemirrorball8 ай бұрын
hey, I know this is 3 years old, but to anyone else in this situation, I would possibly recommend getting different types of hay! it could interest them & could be a good ‘treat’ to help bonding! :)) I hope this might help someone!
