This is one of my earliest doodles, and as you can see this style of doodling has been around in my mind for several years. Just draw lines, and add things as you go. You don't need to plan it out at all! :)

all i could think about is how he puts his bullets and weapons with his art supplies just like *"Hey bob imma borrow some pen- WOAH WTF BOB WHAT DO YOU NEED THIS SHIT FOR ARE YOU IN THE MAFIA OR SOME SHIT?!?!"*
@MasterofTongs
@MasterofTongs 8 жыл бұрын
He's just collecting for the fun of it (at least in that drawer). Notice that most of the bullets and casings are different sizes. Gun owners tend to keep nearly all of their ammo (particularly of the same caliber) in one place. Two main reasons for this are because if you have a firearm that shoots that particular ammo, you need to keep them away from each other to avoid any accidents with friends and family, and also because you want to store ammo you intend to shoot somewhere where it will not deteriorate.

Another good tip is that if you're drawing on paper and you don't think it's finished yet but you don't know what else to do then you can turn the paper upside down and turn it on its side to get a different perspective of it

This is great advice. I love how you don't make it any more complicated than it is. Coming from your mouth it actually sounds quite simple! But looking at your doodle, it looks anything but! My biggest issue is making that first mark... A blank page is very intimidating to me! I like your tip on closing your eyes.. I'm going to give it a try and see if it makes it easier for me to start. Thanks!

First of all, I'll say that since everyone is different you may think that what I'm about to say is less than useless. With that said, what I generally do if I can't find a muse for art is just take a walk. Find something that inspires you. A piece of graffiti, maybe, a strange looking old man, a gnarled tree, a field, a rock, a lizard, a scyscraper and so on. If you don't feel like walking just browse google images. You want to draw a robot tree? Do it. Basically, try to cut yourself off from modern society's constraints which basically force you to switch off your imagination. After all, every child was born imaginative, as artists all we're trying to do is keep in touch with that imagination. Hope my rambling helped and happy doodling.
@aDotFromTheFuture
@aDotFromTheFuture 10 жыл бұрын
Inklan Utterfield I many times do search Google for images, but the problem for me with that is, I just start copying what I see. So basically, if I see something that interests me (a nice picture, art that someone has already made etc.), I start drawing it and when I'm done it's pretty much the exact same as the reference picture. It's really hard for me to put something of my own to the artwork, nonetheless draw something completely mine without a reference picture. I guess it's a talent of it's own to be able to copy things like that, but sometimes I would just like to make something original from my imagination (if I had any).
@StallionKnifemaster
@StallionKnifemaster 10 жыл бұрын
aDotFromTheFuture I am completely the same with that. I can draw pictures that I see and use as reference no problem, but as soon as I try and draw something if my own...there's just nothing, nada, no inspiration. Why not try searching up something for inspiration, then closing it, walk away from the computer and try from memory? add a bit of your own stuff to it aswell, just pick some ideas and then add to them. I'm sure you have imagination in there somehwhere. give it a go.

is doodle american for abstract drawing?

Nah, doodle is simply what you start doing when you want to draw, but do not have a stated goal for the subject matter. It's perfect for getting through classes.

Doodleing seems pointless. Maybe that's the point.

For some, doodling is exactly as you said, pointless. But for others, doodling is a distraction, for some it's a release, and for some it's simply enjoyment. It all depends on the person. For me, I doodle because it gives my hands something to do and occupies the part of my brain that would otherwise wander when I need to be paying attention. A majority of my doodles are done either during lectures or when I have insomnia.

'Doodling'. at least on the level that this guy is doing it, is basically abstract artistry. What makes it unique is that you start with nothing, and are creating in the moment. It's a great artistic exercise, feeling your way through the piece and using spontaneous design choices allowing you to really flex the creative muscles. Of course, it also can look incredibly cool.

The best advice you said was to just draw a few random lines. Whenever I first start a doodle I contemplate on what to draw and I don't think I even thought of that.

Started some digital doodling last night based on your tips from these videos, Peter. It's frustrating forcing myself to go digital but I'm doing it that way because A. my Amazon order of micron pens and prismacolor markers (And a copy of Color Me Crazy!) hasn't arrived yet and B. I'm learning a TON about Manga Studio by forcing myself to try to use the tools it has for me. Thanks, as always, for great, encouraging, engaging, and funny content.
