Hey Mark great info! Thanks! Just wondering how often do you recommend to put H2O2 in a tank?
@Flyingdutchy336 жыл бұрын
Excellent! I just performed the treatment as per specifications to my 150L and 200L fish tanks and it appears to have some magical effects. I've noticed increased pearling from the plants afterwards and all fish are more active. The perscribed dosage was a little on the low side, as not a lot was happening. I then hit the tank after about 30-45 minutes with a syringe with another half dose in a more focused manner and thats when the real magic started. tons of bubbles from the stuff reacting! I think I'm going to make this part of my waterchange routine. Siphon water out, treat the lower volume of water, let it sit and refill. Possibly hit it with a small shot of fresh bacteria, too!

Hey Mark, great video. I have a lot of algae (some BBA) in my tank and I'll be using this method today. One important point of note for your US viewers; The overlay showing the dosage on screen is incorrect. One US gallon is 3.875 litres and not 4.5 litres as quoted. The UK Gallon is 4.54 Litres.

Hi guys. I tried this yesterday in my 10 litre tank ( I dosed 2 ml of 3% h2o2) and I woke up this morning and it had completely removed the green hair algea. I'm absolutely amazed about this. Thank you so much, I can't tell you how disheartening it is to have a tank slowly taken over by green hair algae, especially when you're doing everything to prevent it in the first place. Again thank you Mark for sharing this, very grateful.

Hi Mark. Great video, thanks for sharing. Couple of questions if I may please: - Why shut off the filter and why for 1 hour? Does the H2O2 harm the bio-filter and is it then gone from the water / safe after 1 hour? - Have you any experience with higher doses and what a safe maximum limit (for neo's) might be? - How often do you treat your tanks with H2O2? Many thanks, James :)

This video is awesome Mark! Hope all is well. I did a little research on Hydrogen peroxide and found out that it is light sensitive and will break down more quickly when the light are on. I recommend shutting the tank lights off as well during the hour of treatment, not sure if it makes a difference but if the theory is correct its worth a try, plus it may save you from having to do multiple treatments to get the desired effect.

Hey Mark. Great video as always. I used to use h2o2 in my fish tanks for years when treating algae or even bacterial infections. (In larger quantities than you use for shrimp so I assume shrimp are more sensitive to it than fish as my fish never were bothered by it) I now use in all my shrimp tanks once you confirmed safe dosage for shrimp safety. Thanks a lot for your videos. Also I believe it kills a large percentage of micro fauna (limpets, copepods, midge fly larvae) I had midge fly larvae in one tank and while not harmful it is very annoying. Small worm like lines stuck to glass and filter and small flys at the surface sometimes. It killed the midge fly completely.

If it helps the calculations if you make your volume calculations in litres, just divide by 3 to get how many millilitres of H2o2 to dose. then no need to worry about gallon conversions in any country. (1 cubic foot = 28 litres, or 1000 cm^3 = 1 litre. ) so my bow front 90cm tank is 150 litres after taking off gravel etc. so = 50ml of H2o2.

I immediately pulled my one infected Sunkist Neo and was so panicked I put him in a 6g cube I am cycling for a new shrimp colony😱. Will I need to completely dismantle and trash the substrate and plants?!? Or can I just wait a couple months for any possible spores to die? Do the spores die if they don't find a host? Any help is greatly appreciated! I see there's not much more info on this horrible infection in the past few yrs since this video was made😢.

@@MarksShrimpTanks Worked out perfect. I have seen and heard many others talk about Peroxide treatment, but yours are clear and detailed. I 1st treated my Shrimp tank (54 L) and waited an hour to turn on the filter, so far every one including newly born shrimps are all doing well. I already saw some of the hair Algae detached and floating around the tank. I will wait a few days and see if it is needed to do another dose. Today I am doing my 200L tank. Many thanks for sharing with everyone this and other important steps to learn and improve our skills at aquarium and shrimp keeping. You are bettering the Hobby and making it more enjoyable and giving us a way out of frustrating situations.

Further to my last comment, I have done my other tank and all is well, except I realised that my RICCIA FLUITANS has dies in both tanks. No other plants or shrimps had an issue but maybe because of the RICCIA FLUITANS plant structure. So I don't recommend this treatment to tanks that contain this plant.

Hi Mark! I have a rampant bacterial infection killing off my shrimp, sped up by the hot temperatures we have had lately! I have done one treatment with h2o2 in an attempt to kill the bacteria to save my remaining shrimp. My question Is, how often can I / should I repeat the h2o2 to try and beat this infection?

I dont because your water will be cleaner after than it originally was, H202 cleans through oxidation.

@MarksShrimpTanks6 жыл бұрын
Hello Sir, thank you and no you dont have to pull the filter just turn it off, you want the bacteria inside it to have a little protection for an hour until the h202 is spent :)

I don’t know anything about shrimp keeping but assume it’s similar to fish keeping in the sense you tank needs to be cycled? Is there any danger of cycle crash? Thanks

I have bba that is starting to get out of control. I'd like to treat my whole tank using this method and i'm assuming it'll take multiple treatments as I am treating 180 gallons tank. Can I get some assistance with figuring out what my actual water volume is so I can calculate the correct dosage? I have plants, shrimp, discus, tetras and so on so i'm really worried that i'll be harming the fish/plants.

Hey, :) Thx, again! I'll be doing this today on three (3) tanks. I'm going to be using this product I bought at the Walmart pharmacy, "equate 3% Hydrogen Peroxide". The cost was/is $0.54 for 16 FL OZ (1 PT) 473mL. Hope it works. Albeit, I'm pretty certain it will in many ways, as an antiseptic for the shrimp, snails, and basically all livestock.
@MarksShrimpTanks5 жыл бұрын
You just have to make sure it doesn't contain anything else, some of the pharmacy stuff is meant as a mouth wash too.
@4funrc115 жыл бұрын
@@MarksShrimpTanks Hi, Thx! Oh oh... maybe? (See below) On the front of the bottle is printed: 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Antiseptic For treatment of minor cuts and abrasions Oral debriding agent Use as a gargle or rinse And on the back is printed Active ingredient Hydrogen peroxide 3% ......First aid antiseptic/oral debriding agent Then the usual WARNINGS - For external Use Only, followed by the, usual warnings seen on First Aid products. *But* it does read, *as an oral agent* for sore mouth symptoms, removal of mucas, phlegm, general sore mouth areas. So, looks like either I have and have used the wrong hydrogen peroxide, or this product is *dual usage* for humans. *Ok, I'll admit it, I'm stumped.*
@MarksShrimpTanks5 жыл бұрын
looks good to me, oral debridging agent just means its used to clean wounds which H202 does. if it only lists Hydrogen peroxide 3% on the back I would use it.

@MarksShrimpTanks6 жыл бұрын
I do it every now and again in every tank and I see a massive difference in the shrimp, you think to yourself yes they are healthy then try this treatment and see the difference. I think whats happening is it reduces the bad bacteria bioload and increases oxygen.
@Shaden00406 жыл бұрын
H2O2 is fairly good at removing cyanobacteria as well. A photosynthesizing bacteria that can be toxic over time if your fish and shrimps eat it. They usually won't on purpose, but it does mix in with other types of algae and gets eaten by mistake.

I’ve been using h2o2 for a while now and I can also say I see the jump in shrimp activity but I’ve also noticed it’s more like a temporary boost. I recently lost all of my shrimp in my tank due to what I believe is a fungus that is also effecting my ferns and devastated my S.Repens. I’m actually pretty sure it might have helped the shrimp survive longer and gave me enough time to fight off the fungus by manually removing it daily. It’s been nearly a 2 month long battle that is I hope finally commin to an end. Spot treatment with everything basically did nothing to what ever this was/is and I’ve found little info that related to my specific situation. But back to the topic at hand so far I’ve only seen good things from fairly regular use and I’m pretty sure like I said it was the only thing that some what held things off until I cld basically save my plants at least. I’m ordering my nxt batch of shrimp this weekend. Fingers crossed all is well now. Nano fish seem happier then ever and plants are looking good and ferns and s repens are bouncing back. Prolly just see if I can get some neos to breed and I’ll be thrilled after that battle.

@@stevenquigley9139 Was this fungus a whispy white gunk? If so it is a fungus but it is called white water mold, and it feeds off PVC and other plastics. You need light and strong UV light to help kill it off. Bleach, H2O2, doesn't seem to affect it, much. This guy, Dan Hiteshew had it growing in one of his quarantine tanks/filter. First in a small series of videos and how he treated it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqSYo2t9bLeJeM0

Hey Mark, thank you for such clear instruction, really good video. I had cyanobacteria, treated it successfully and now I have string algae, I tried and tried... water changes... reducing light... feeding less.... it just keeps growing and covering more and more. As a last resort I'm going to try hydrogen peroxide before I fully take everything apart and start afresh, my HP is only 2% but I'm confident on how to do the maths. I was a bit nervous when I first heard about this, but if you treat your shrimp aquarium with it, I'm sure my fish and amano shrimp will be ok too. My question is: how often do you do this? How many days intervals?
@MarksShrimpTanks2 жыл бұрын
most Ive done it is 3 days, I have noticed for string algae having floating plants helps a lot, in most my tanks with 70% floating plant cover I have no string algae.

Hi Mark very informative video I use it myself just wanted to ask you about leaving the lights on while treating the tank. I've seen from other videos that other people turn the lights off as light reacts with the hydrogen peroxide and breaks it down. I have found this to be true as when I treat my tank I leave the light off for half an hour then when I switch the light back on very fine bubbles start forming from all surfaces this shows me that the lights are reacting with the hydrogen peroxide and breaking it down. Have you any comments on this technique? Regards Dave.
