As a guy with very reactive dry rosacea prone skin, I wear only waterproof tinted SPF, and find that 2 pumps of Cerave hydrating cleanser does the job perfectly before bed, and 1 pump in the morning to remove retinol and any oils during the night. The biggest mistake I made was consulting Hirons the influencer, a while back, who told me to use a hot cloth and a boutique fancy cleansing balm, and to cleanse twice - it left me with red inflamed skin, she told me to preserver and not bother with SPF indoors at the office, but luckily I found Dr Dray whose advice fixed my skin. In Asian countries we have another step before washing off the oil based remover - we use a little bit of water to massage the cleanser on your face so it "milkify" (I don't know the term in English) but not washed off yet. Once you give it a little circular motion and you should see the oil based cleanser looks white and milky, then you can wash it off completely with water. Then you use your gentle cleanser after. This really helps to get all the dirt and waterproof stuffs out.

I've been using the double-cleanse method with Neutrogena fragrance-free sesame oil as a first step per your previous helpful tutorials, Dr. Dray. Another benefit I appreciate as someone with rosacea and sensitive skin is there's no need for any vigorous rubbing or scrubbing to get off the sunscreen film. The oil in the first step dissolves the sunscreen with a few gentle circular motions, then the second cleanser lathers enough for everything to rinse right off. Hugs & thanks as always for your excellent advice!

Yes! I love double cleansing! It feels like I’m giving myself a spa treatment, , it’s such an important part of my bedtime routine that I’d hate to skip it now, I use the Inkey List oat cleansing balm or The Ordinary squalaner cleanser for the first cleanse (I also love Nip & Fab vitamin C oil cleanser and have the Hada Labo oil cleanser but haven’t used it yet - I’m a cleanser junkie so I always have a few on the go) followed by Cerave Hydrating cleanser for the second cleanse. At the moment I’m using Kate Sommerville Delikate for the second cleanse as I’m having some skin irritation from chemotherapy treatment, it’s good but VERY expensive so I’m going back to Cerave when I finish it 🤣

I double cleanse at the sink each night but due to my acne prone skin have always followed up any cleanse routine with an oil free non-comedogenic 'toner'...not to 'balance' out my skin but to ensure I've removed ALL residue, that could be lingering on my face, down my neck or around my ears. Then proceed with any active topicals and a moisturizer. :)

I have the same issue, so I remove my eye makeup first w Bioderma then proceed with a double cleanse. With the Bioderma removing 99% of my eye makeup I only require a light follow up cleanse of the eyes, no more blurry eyes now that I use this method. Sometimes there is residual makeup around my eyes, I remove that w micellar water (Bioderma) & cotton swab.

@@Jennifer-uc2oh was just about to say the same! The Bioderma Sensibio is the BEST! Does not sting my very sensitive eyes at all. I use it first to remove eye makeup, then go in with a cleansing balm and I steer clear of my eyes because it’ll leave a film and blur my eyes no matter how careful I am! Then I rinse and finish off with Cerave foaming cleanser. My face is clean and hydrated every time!

Hi, thanks for this video. It’s always so helpful to have healthy skin practices reinforced by someone with Dr. Dray’s expertise. I’ve been double cleansing for a few years and love it. It is very gentle and effective on my skin. I just need to be careful not to use products that are too harsh or stripping to my skin barrier. My preference is for a cleansing balm like Heimish followed by a creamy cleanser like Aveeno nourishing oat cleanser. Happy cleansing everyone!

I have dry skin and I find that using a cleansing balm dries my skin out even more. I think I just don’t have enough gunk on my face to make it worth it, so it starts dissolving all of the good oils in the top layer of my skin. So I only use it if I really pack on the makeup or waterproof sunscreen that day.

I like micellar water for removing makeup, even eye makeup. And what I've found over time is that as long as I don't use so much that it floods my eyes, I don't get eye irritation. If I use so much that it floods my eyes, between my closed lids, then I get eye irritation.
@honeybear3733 жыл бұрын
I agree. When used gently and not over-drenching my skin and eyes with it, it works really well w/o irritation. Maybe takes a bit longer than a balm to remove it all gently however.

Same. Use micellar first to gently wipe eye make up off then LaRoche Posey mentioned as it’s a beautiful, gentle cleanser, have been using it for months. Does not dry out my 50+ skin. If I rub a cleanser around my eye makeup, all makeup ends up in my eyes. Great video 🙏

I've been double cleansing for years and it's made a big difference in my oily skin. Any day that I'm wearing more than one layer of sunscreen (which is, frankly, every day), I need the oil cleanser (I use Hada Labo cleansing oil) to start the process off. Any day that I don't do this, I'll notice patches of sunscreen around my face that don't come off with just the gentle cleanser (I'm currently using Neutrogena's Ultra Gentle Cleanser). And who wants to apply actives on top of that gunk? Thanks for letting me know about Hada Labo--I've been using it since you first talked about it years ago! And a bottle lasts me MONTHS!

And having darkness around the eyes the next morning from the mascara that hadn't gotten completely removed, eeew. Those were dark times. I love double cleansing but I've only been doing that for around a year. I ditched cotton rounds a long time ago and just went in with gentle cleanser multiple times (usually around 3), but even though it seemed like a simpler routine with just one product it took me more time rubbing away especially at my mascara than with a double cleanse. Now I even wear waterproof mascara daily cause it gets melted away with no time with a balm or a cleansing oil.

I’ve found the eye makeup removers specific for that purpose (Lancôme, Estée Lauder and the less expensive drug store brands)to be extremely gentle and non-stinging, plus they don’t leave a film over your eye like a micellar water or an oil. However, I LOVE an oil cleanser for the rest of my face as a first step in a double cleanse.
