As as been mentioned once, freeze your lighter for a few minutes or refrigerate it for at least 10 minutes then fill. Why? The cold air will drop the pressure in the fuel chamber, then when you refill the negative pressure will essentially pull the butane into the chamber. There's no need to purge the lighter to get a good fill using this method. When I first found out about this I was skeptical. So I tried it and it worked! I haven't purged any of my lighters in over 2 years. They will work great.
@mikeg60692 жыл бұрын
@@LoneWolf-qk9pl don't. I'm kind of a lighter collector. I've got 8 or 9 lighters. Two of them were over $100. I fill them all this way. The cold air does nothing to harm them. I've even left one of my expensive ones in the freezer overnight because I forgot I put it in there. Not a problem.
@mikeg60692 жыл бұрын
@@LoneWolf-qk9pl I suppose that's a possibility. But I've been doing this for 3 years across several lighters and never had an issue. However, after each refill I do burn the lighter for 5 seconds or so to make sure everything is working. I would assume that reduces the fuel amount to prevent possible issues. But I'm just guessing. I'd suggest trying on cheaper lighters to gain confidence.

should not happen because you are not putting in more fuel into the tank than it is designed to hold at its rated pressure but maybe you should purge it of any remaining air or propellant first before doing this but i'd be concerned about getting moisture in the nozzle where there are fine filter or diffusing components like mesh, rubber washer and sponges etc that assures only filtered gas and not liquid fuel is coming to the nozzle that may get clogged up unless you wrap your lighter in saran wrap perhaps but like you i'm still worried about possible long term damage and there are lighter with complicated electronics in them, i would not risk it and much rather purge unwanted air and propellant out and fill it the normal way @@LoneWolf-qk9pl

My first lighter was a Vertigo Cyclone triple torch... it was a two-pack for $14. Gave the other one to a friend.. I've had mine nearly three years and it's still going strong. I bleed it and adjust the flame from time to time, but it's a workhorse and never fails me. I love that the fuel tank is clear and you can see exactly how much fuel you have left. I also have a single torch lighter of unknown origin for which I paid 97 cents at a smoke shop around the corner from a golf course I was headed to when I realized I had cigars with me but no lighter. That thing has been indestructible and lights every time. I've refilled it a dozen times now and it still keeps plugging along. All I can say guys is stop spending tons of money on expensive lighters... buy a cheap, reliable lighter and just take better care of it. When and if it fails, buy another cheap and reliable lighter. Which is better: paying $70 for a lighter that lasts ten years; or paying $7 for a lighter that lasts three years and then just buying another one... and a third one when that one dies?

I like my vertigo 3 jet. Going on 4 years and it was cheap. Good flame, you can see the amount of fluid, works when I need it - unless it's cold, and then it won't light unless you put it in your pocket and warm it up. I always use triple filtered butane.

Great video! I’ve been using a cheap golden Amazon lighter for about a year now. I have 2 of them (it was a 2 pack) and when one stops working I let it rest and use the other. I find cycling back and forth allows the lighter to reach the right temperature and pressure balance and then I can use it again without fail. I will probably be picking up a nice Xicar one soon that comes with a strong case for my EDC.
@RobertSiwik19682 жыл бұрын
I always use Xikar high altitude fluid! Absolute best . I have about 12 lighters. They all work perfectly with this fluid. I purge first, fill then bleed. Let them sit for five minutes and perfect! I just bought a Lotus Brawn after I saw the halfwheel review. Great tabletop lighter but I wish it had a fuel window. I did have a vertigo catch fire in my hand, like engulf my hand! I chucked it out the window of my truck and luckily I didn't get burned. Thats the only bad experience I have ever had. I usually take my cheapy lighters to work or to the store and keep my good ones at home. I do like to keep them in my truck but I noticed the opposite, they don't like the cold. Great video. Peace!

I have 14 lighters of varying style, type and quality. The best lighter out of the bunch is a freebie from Tim when he had a sale on a batch of Perdoma sticks. It's so heavy it weighs my pocket down so I keep it by my favorite chair. It's my go-to workhorse and I abuse it as much as my in-laws. It works every time, even after the grandkids suck on it and get all that gnarly baby juice all over/in it. I have an $80 lighter that was a gift and just having it in my pocket for a few days causes it to cease working (dirt, lint, who knows). It's a crap shoot for sure. Just use a dirty stick you set on fire from a burning tire. Works every time.. :)

If you put your lighter in the freezer for 1-2 minutes before filling its easier. Also clean off the smoke residue on the nozzle with a q-tip and alcohol. You can ignore all this and just get a bunch of bics.
@frankholmes54312 жыл бұрын
The bic method is tempting but even with a little wind they are absolute trash and if you like a nice mountain view with your smoke that means Bic’s are a no go. Plus the environmental impact of bics are horrible they are hazardous waste with no recycling meathod. Good tip for freezing though I will try it.

Every time you click that thing you're stressing a little piezo electric piece and it will eventually fail. So I would think the big thing is to do minimal relights (or none) and don't be clicking it more than necessary. That could increase the life span by multiples.
