Funny, I think my experience with sport fencing helped with this. I never had trouble doubling up on my punches, left or right, since in fencing the first strike almost never lands. Cross train broadly enough and you pick up interesting things.

I love the 1-3 combo. I figured it out yrs ago while sparring a friend of mine that used to box. We both hadn't trained consistently in a while but reacquainted at the bar and got together a few times. His footwork was way way above me which made it hard to catch him with anything. But I noticed he kept circling towards my lead hand, and decided to use that to my advantage by making him move with my 1-2 or just jab. But then I started doing the 1-3 and started landing more shots. And it's still been effective and useful for me since.
@A.Clifton4 жыл бұрын
I found good use for using the left jab to left hook and using the slight shift in posture to load up an overhand right or a shallow right shovel hook with the left arm providing cover from a potentially faster counterpunch. Keeping light on the feet allows you to sort of dance away from the impact if he throws a surprisingly quick hand.

Great lesson! Someone once told me they didn't like a particular striking coach's class structure, because he would have us doing the same combinations on different stations, (in rotation) including a double end & heavy bag. Coach typically held pads as one station in the rotation, while everyone else shadow boxed. Because this fighter thought it was pointless to do shadows and it was merely to pack more fighters in the class, (im sure it could be) but I always felt like, mirror and shadow boxing teaches you how to react when you miss

Do you teach punching vertically for street fights the way old school bare knuckle boxers used to throw their punches for optimum wrist stability. And also what’s your opinion on knuckle conditioning, Mike Tyson had a street fight with Mitch green and ended knocking him out but he hurts his hands in the process I believe this was due to him punching too hard despite his wrists and knuckles not being conditioned due to always punching with gloves on.

"People have been knocked out by arm punches." Fair enough. Also, a grown man "can" be knocked out by a 5 year old if the conditions are right. So there is that.... My sensei taught me: "We don't throw everything bone crushing in order to knock them out. We throw bone crushing strikes in order to crush the bones of theirs that we want them to stop using. Even when he blocks your punch, you make him regret not backing away from you. Only when you approach the fight like that do you MAKE him EARN the right to stand in front of you and find out if he can fight you." It was an exaggeration of course, in order to teach me the REAL purpose of strikes: Pain. But don't take my word for it. Just ask Brock Lesnar's liver. So would you rather wield for life the kind of power that can break the bones of an attacker in a life threatening situation or would you rather rely on pin point precision strikes that take much practice and maintained enthusiasm and athleticism in order to be self reportedly "minimally" effective in a "real" combat situation?
