when you say camera mode do you mean Manual?

No he means Photograph mode as opposed to Video mode. Its the switch at the back where you press to start and stop video shooting. There is a switch to flip between video and camera mode. You need camera mode.

I finally did everything right but when I get to the EOS Utility the firmware field and all other fields are greyed out

A very frustrating few hours but I downloaded ' EOS Utility 2.9.0 updater for Windows ' from Canon and it worked, brought me down from 1.3.3. too 1.2.3. ( relief to say the least ) and now I have Magic Lantern up an running :-} Thanks

I don't think this works with the Mac EOS Utility 2. Everything works up until the point where we're supposed to click SET on the camera. Nothing happens on the camera after clicking SET.

@@AlexPower Yes, been in Photo mode the whole time. Tried EOS Util 2 and EOS Util 3 methods. Read both forum threads. There's not much for Mac people it seems but when it comes to the step immediately following " 1.3.6 > 1.2.3?" the camera disconnects and ten screen stays blank. Hitting the SET buttons does nothing. Only unplugging the cable makes the camera active again.

U have to be in picture mode. Firmware option will be greyed out if in video mode.

Hi Alex, thanks for the clear instructions. Just wondering if you've come across the solution to downgrade from 1.3.6 yet. Canon have really made sure to lock us out of our cameras. I did the update before all the warnings not to came out, now I'm locked out of ML 😢

Great! Just a note: when you download your sw it request a cd. After some attempt I have taken the original canon's cd and installed only Eos utility (50mb). It doesn't start automatically but I forced it. Thank you

I think I am stuffed, when trying to load 1.2.3 onto my 5D Mk 3 with 1.3.3. the following message appears ' Ver older than 1.3.0. on card, delete old file and update to newer version' Is there a way around this or should I just think myself lucky it didn't screw up the camera.

I just have downgraded from 1.3.3 to 1.2.3 using canon utility tool on the new 5D Mark III(have 2) It was successful. Preset in Camera: Make sure Below, i) memory card ii)100% Battery iii)set to Photo Mode (ie.,it should not be in video mode) Here are the Steps: 1. first download and install Canon utility software to your computer 2. then download the firmware version 1.2.3 and save it in your local directory 3. Connect your camera using USB cable to your computer 4. Now Canon utility window automatically pops up. 5. select camera settings/remote shooting under control camera tab 6. then select setup menu in newly opened window there you could see the selection for Firmware 7. Click firmware then system will give you the option for update (either upgrade/downgrade) 8. then navigate and point out the firmware which you like to upgrade or Downgrade. Ex: if you already installed 1.3.3 then select the firmware setup for 1.2.3 to downgrade 9. That's it! then follow the instructions in your camera to complete the installation. 10. then Enjoy!

Good question, actually you can't, the ML will work only with 123 firmware :(

You can upgrade back, but you won't be able to use Magic Lantern. Magic Lantern doesn't upload itself to your camera, it works via the card you install it on. So the second you upgrade the camera, Lantern will stop working, as it is not a part of the camera and is not compatible with the new software
