This is a new video that (I hope) explains the concepts from my video last year in a more easy-to-understand way.

this was so helpful, thanks! I was completely stumped. also, for your reference, the period in ./df is just saying "this directory, run file df." If you want to run it from the home directory, you have to tell it where to look. Depending where your working directory is (where you are cd'ed into currently) you can run dwarf fortress with something like ./downloads/df_linux/df or ~/path/to/df_linux/df which should work. The tilde, or ~ symbol, specifies home. so you could be in any directory you want to be in and run ~/downloads/df_linux/df

@@squanderingsquid BTW! If you still wanna make a short cut for to open DF in one command you can make an alias in your ~/.bashrc for cd ~/Downloads/df_linux && ./df

If you're using zsh it's ~/.zshrc

Yep! I actually figured it out shortly after making the video, now I just have to put "dorftime" in my terminal and it opens!

Omg thank you for this! I thought I was a noob that couldn't install on linux, but I guess the wiki is just wrong or outdated. Lmao why does it have to work like that?

I haven't done much with the new update admittedly but I just tried downloading on PopOs (so should be similar to Mint). Ran good out of the box for me, just download it from their website, extract it to the folder you want, and then instead of ./df, ./dwarfort should run it for you (make sure you're in the right directory). I didn't need to mess with the library at all so it seems they may have fixed that issue. Hopefully this helps.
